Will we have a new PM by the end of the month?

I really don’t want to turn this into a slanging match!

Whatever your politics I think we can all agree Boris and his cohorts have behaved in a despicable manner.

If he is still in power by the end of the month then I don’t think I will ever vote again.

He really is like Teflon…nothing sticks.

Dominic Cummings and others I suspect are gunning for him but will they succeed?
????????

That's the week my wedding should have taken place - us and eight guests. But it couldn't happen and although we were disappointed, it was what we had to do - we had a nice meal and did facetime with our children etc. Then this comes out!! BJ is corrupt to the core but on past form I'm sure he'll wriggle out of the problem again ??. BTW for those of you who don't know we ran away to Gretna Green last May ??

They wouldn’t have caught anything in the garden, and spread it that same day. Most likely not the next day either.

Well, I wish I'd known it was ok, that I could have broken the rules, sat in the garden, asked relatives and friends to come and BYOB because I had a special birthday that day and didn't see anyone apart from DH (thank goodness for him).

That does sound petty when people were in hospital without the comfort of a loved one with them and doctors and nurses were in despair as they tried to comfort patients as they lay dying.

I am so cross and frustrated with the PM over this latest revelation. Incredibly frustrated with him, as he has let himself and all of us down.

He has made a number of brave decisions in the past which, despite opposition from the usual quarters, have paid off.

In 2020 he had the courage to push ahead with orders for our vaccines, choosing to go it alone which meant ours were ordered while the lumbering bureaucracy of the EU was still quibbling about prices. That enabled us to get off to a flying start.

He was brave enough to take us out of lockdown in the summer when much of Europe was still tied down by restrictions.

Now this winter he has held his nerve and stuck to the plan to let us ride out this current wave, again despite howls of protests that the NHS would be overwhelmed. So far that hasn’t happened.

So in many respects things were going well, until these latest revelations.

How could he not see how it would look when news of these gatherings leaked out, which they inevitably would?

A massive error of judgement which could allow Labour to get in power without having to do anything at all.

I don’t suppose they’re 2 metres apart when they’re working either.

Certainly Hancock and his amour weren't.

Carrie will not allow him to resign,,,she's only just getting the 'place' shipshape!...

Alegrias1 Wed 12-Jan-22 17:37:57

JE I think that is a very fair post of yours at 17:27.

Daisymae Wed 12-Jan-22 17:38:48

Nearly 400 are recorded as dying with Covid in the reports today. What is the only topic in the news? A party. Again. How long can this be allowed to continue?

JenniferEccles Wed 12-Jan-22 17:45:36

Thank you Alegrias1

Oh no, more expense tearing all that wallpaper down and getting rid of the furnishings.
I'm sure no future PM and family if he or she has one will want to live in all that over-blown splendour!

Daisymae Wed 12-Jan-22 17:53:36

Brave? Some would say reckless.

lemongrove Wed 12-Jan-22 17:59:08

Jennifer
Yes, exactly, good post.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 12-Jan-22 18:07:11

He is toast and quite honestly should go immediately. Remember the spectacle of May after her vote of no confidence. She bumbled along and it was humiliating. Johnson will suffer the same.

lemongrove Wed 12-Jan-22 18:10:37

Am not so sure about that WW....not at all.
Unless he resigned ( unlikely) he will go on until after May elections, that will be the tipping point. If elections went well for the Conservatives then they will keep Johnson. If not...

Kali2 Wed 12-Jan-22 18:12:21

Well, at least she had some integrity. She was got rid by the ERG. They will get rid of Johnson when they decide, and will appoint the next one. He was just a tool to get votes- now they have huge majority, he has served his purpose.

Spot on... Nothing will happen until then.

JenniferEccles:

'So in many respects things were going well'

- it's strange, as I missed that, didn't notice much going well at all.

All I saw was 'too little, too late (on repeat) with far too many deaths.

I do agree that the vaccinations have been successful - yet I never thought that BJ had much to do with that.

I don’t suppose they’re 2 metres apart when they’re working either.

Possibly not although most people tried to be socially distanced. But this was a party - a BYOB party as per the invitation by email that most of us have seen.

Casdon Wed 12-Jan-22 18:28:24

It depends entirely on what the reaction to the next revelation is Visgirl. I don’t think for a minute that this is the end of it.

Dinahmo Wed 12-Jan-22 18:35:29

The EU were concerned about the safety of the vaccines. By all accounts the govt agreed to proceed with the vaccinations without the usual fail safes if the vaccines had an adverse effect.

You can praise him to the skies but he and his govt are now planning to sell off The Vaccine Manufacturing and Innovation Centre near Oxford, much to the dismay of many scientists. This facility was announced in 2018 to help the govt respond to future epidemics and has received £200 million in public funding. Yet another piece of family silver to disappear.

Kali2 Wed 12-Jan-22 18:43:07

They also wanted to work together, so they could buy in bulk at a much lower price. Which they succeeded in doing. Can't remember how much more the UK is paying per vaccine, but the total cost is humongous!

HolySox Thu 13-Jan-22 08:27:25

Good points JenniferEccles 17:27 yesterday. I think we have benefited from Boris being a bit if a maverick, willing to push for things rather than tread overly cautiously at every step. Shame this work event in the garden has been grossly misinterpreted. As Boris said, in hindsight, not his best move.
Of course had he pulled up at the time and forced out then we'd probably be back in lockdown now waiting for booster roll-out but with higher cases and deaths.

DiscoDancer1975 Thu 13-Jan-22 08:29:35

Excellent post Jennifer. He should have thought about what he was doing for sure, but he is only human, and this happened right at the beginning.

He went on to do all the things you say....very well in my opinion, but of course the anti Boris brigade will always only focus on the slip ups.

DiscoDancer1975 Thu 13-Jan-22 08:30:15

Haha....same minds Holysox

Libman

ERG? Would someone expand for me please?

I will answer your question, others like to fling the term around without really expanding on why they dislike it so much. This intrigued me . Not saying I am enamoured, but sure other parties have background groups gathering information.

Alegrias1 Thu 13-Jan-22 09:08:12

Its interesting, isn't it?

Libman asked what the ERG was and somebody answered her yesterday, with the actual explanation of what they are.

Then today we have someone trying to say that they are all angelic souls just trying to get to the truth. Just trying to gather information that's all, nothing to see here.

People will fall for anything. That's how we've ended up here.
