War crimes in Ukraine

Apparently Russia cannot be expelled from the UN, as they could veto any attempt to do this and are supported by China!! You couldn't make it up! All the UN can do is pontificate and wring its hands. The UN needs disbanding as it's clearly completely useless and a complete waste of time money, and space, and in danger of becoming a laughing stock. Russia, China and probably India are already laughing at this toothless tiger and it's Euromice companions.

Let’s not fall into the trap of hyperbole here.

The war started a month or so ago.

Germany’s economy is dependent on Russian oil and gas.

It is a massive undertaking to stop this, but nevertheless Germany intends that this dependence will cease within 6-9 months.

Other countries like the USA are providing support for them to achieve this.

Today's news that a Ukranian mother wrote her child's name and details on her back in case they might get separated in the chaos of war struck a chord - what an appalling thing to have to do.

I have no idea how this maniac can be stopped, other than by the means that Hitler was stopped - death and misery and atrocities dragged out for years.

It's the Leave voter's compulsion to despise and belittle the EU.

It's interesting to be told first hand that some posters can be relied upon for opinions formed via the method of restricting information sources.

I defy anyone not to be moved to tears of sorrow and despair when watching the harrowing footage of the mass murder and wanton destruction the Russian Army is inflicting on the Ukraine and its people. A recent TV clip showed a 74 year old Ukrainian grandmother being taught how to fire a rifle. When she was asked how she felt (yes, stupid question) her reply was that she would stand and fight for the town where she had been born and lived her whole life. She said she would rather die as a Ukrainian than live as a Russian.

I know that this is a thread about war crimes in Ukraine, which is what we are supposed to be talking about. But there are many people questioning how the Russian people can believe the lies that are told by their government.

Well look around you folks. In the midst of this war there are still members of the press who are trying to stoke the them and us attitudes to Europe that led us to the mess that is Brexit. Be warned.

To hell with the whole Europe debate ..... we are all fellow human beings and people are suffering appallingly. Let us do positive things like sending aid, offering our homes and lobbying our MPs.

Fully agree Luckygirl13 If people want to discuss Brexit either find a suitable forum or start a new one.

I hope these last two posts are aimed at the folk trying to belittle the European nations that are also standing up to Putin, are they?

It would help a lot if pressure was put on China to condemn Russia
The Russian people do have a pretty good idea what is going on but the daren’t comment for fear of being jailed. WMD and Nuclear weapons would have been used if “mutually assured destruction” was not guaranteed.
Parallel Ukraine with Vietnam, if defenders are determined they make it impossible to occupy a country however many bombs you have.

I'm not sure what pressure could be put on them Katie. What do you suggest?
