Oh Nicola! We’re not as green as we’re cabbage looking! ???????

Nicola Sturgeon has denied her government staged a cover-up over its decision to hand a scandal-hit ferries contract to a shipyard owned by an independence supporter after it admitted key documents “cannot be located”.

The First Minister said it was “regrettable” that there was no paper trail showing why her administration had handed the contract to Ferguson Marine after ferry chiefs warned the award was too risky and asked for it to be withdrawn.

She argued that her government had provided lots of other information but “this particular piece of written evidence” was not available.

But the Tories said it was “inconceivable” that there was nothing in the Scottish Government's records to show why SNP ministers pressed ahead without a full refund guarantee, a standard clause in shipbuilding contracts.

The ferries’ cost has since spiralled from £97 million to £250 million and their construction is running five years late.“

Well, well. ??

Oh c’mom! Only a complete pilchard would swallow that one.

The Scots love her despite the ferry scandal, hopeless health service, failing education, and the drugs explosion.

Bye bye Scotland.

MORE missing paperwork, really? Time after time. She must think we haven’t seen the first fall of snow.

Thank you Marydoll. It all becomes so tiresome when the OP chooses one particular country out of the many discussed on GN, to repeatedly highlight any problem again and again.

Obviously those in other countries we discuss will not be aware of such threads, I would think, therefore have no opportunity to voice their opinion.

Urmstongran Sat 23-Apr-22 09:25:10

^ I assume he could not have have been called upon to fight and defend Scotland.^

Hmm. He was based in Kenya during WW2 and his brother (still alive) was on active service in the North Atlantic convoys. Scary stuff the tales he shares. Does that count Daisyanne?

Urmstongran Sat 23-Apr-22 09:26:27

I have started threads on Wales in the past. ?

I ❤️ Scotland. And I have never belittled it’s residents.

Yes you have.

You have repeatedly told us that we are sleepwalking into independence and that Nicola is telling us what to do, that we have an undying love for a person or party that is ruining our country. (I paraphrase)

I ❤️ Scotland is meaningless. What do you love? The wild mountain time and the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond? Tomnahurich and the Brahan Seer maybe? (Ask your stepdad). I love Scotland for its innovation, its openness and its modernity. And the occasional nice mountain.

People who find the OP's obsession interest in Scotland's affairs tiresome could just ignore the threads she starts. Why don't they? Why do they feel defensive?

I don't comment on Welsh politics or on Mr Drakeford. I have no insight into that country or how its Assembly operates. If Mr Drakeford is not a good FM, that's got nothing to do with me. (I seriously don't know if he is)

They might be in the Union but the rest of us don't "own" them and we don't get a say.

Volver do you remember the endless threads on President Trump when he was POTUS?

So many on here knew all about him, how he governed what the wo/man in the street in USA thought about him, this knowledge mainly gained from Newspapers and the internet, should we not have had opinions ?

I am obviously not getting the difference between any Scotland related threads and other Country/leaders threads.

If we are only to discuss or be interested in the Country we live in, our worlds would be extremely self absorbed and small. I am interested in many Countries and their political parties/leaders.

It is an option, volv. She's only one person. Why do you care so much what she thinks if you think she's wrong anyway?

Urmstongran Sat 23-Apr-22 09:32:40

What do you love? The wild mountain time and the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond?. Definitely that volver on our annual trips up to the Highlands. Such beauty driving through Glencoe! Takes my breath away every time.

I find it heartening that so many Scots don’t want independence. So much so, I do wonder if Indy2 is a busted flush? Time will tell.

Some people will never change their ill-founded opinions.

However we are often told that there are "thousands" of people who read and never post (Hello, if you are there smile).

So they see posts about corruption, and lost paperwork and all the rest of it, and someone has got to put the other side of the story. Many of us do. The side that has more basis in truth that the biased stories of the Telegraph and old men who left the country decades ago.

The day I stop caring when people tell lies about my country in public is the day you can shoot me.

volver you have an awful lot to say about Boris and the Tory government! I never say ‘butt out you don’t live here!’.

You are entitled to an opinion on whatever topic you like.

We have threads discussing Ukraine, USA, The French Elections in fact many Countries are discussed on the News & Politics Forums by members of GN who do not live in these Countries or in some cases never visited them.

Why is it that Scotland and in particular Ms.Sturgeon and SNP are off limits ?

They are not but the views of the non resident stepfather remind me of the views of an erstwhile poster on GN not resident inUk. Who was told frequently she had no right to comment on UK issues……

DaisyAnne Sat 23-Apr-22 09:41:54

Urmstongran

Maybe because those other countries are not part of our Union DaisyAnne? Big difference.

Why is it different? Many countries form Unions but are not seen as "owned" by their partners.

No wonder Brexiteers didn't have a clue about how the EU worked and the fact that each country was still sovereign.

What was his nationality at that time Urmstongran? I have a feeling allegiance means nothing to you, although I imagine you support the pound shop patriotism we see.

Urmstongran Sat 23-Apr-22 09:46:30

Apologies volver I always thought you lived in Scotland as you bang the drum for Indy2. So you won’t get a vote on it either?

Going back to Nicola Sturgeon....

She has pledged to answer the public audit committee’s questions about the scandal “to the very best of my ability”.

It has been alleged the ferry contracts were rushed through before the specifications were finalised to deliver a political boost to Ms Sturgeon at the 2015 SNP conference and the following year's Holyrood election.

Graham Simpson, the Scottish Tories’ Shadow Transport Minister, has said: “In this day and age, it’s almost inconceivable there is not an electronic trail of how this fateful decision was made, even if there is no paper copy.

“And Nicola Sturgeon has the audacity to claim she’s being open and transparent on this scandal. It’s clearer than ever we need a public inquiry to get to the bottom of this murky affair.”

vegansrock Sat 23-Apr-22 09:47:00

Some posters like to criticise other countries and their governments as deflection from criticism of the mess made by the U.K. government which they will defend at all costs. It’s a “don’t look here - look over there” response.

Urmstongran Sat 23-Apr-22 09:48:39

It was Scottish Daisyanne. Him and his brother (who is now 97y).

But they are your only government. Why, if you want to keep the Union, aren't you fighting for and English Parliament and an overarching UK one? That would be how unions usually work.

Urmstongran Sat 23-Apr-22 09:52:01

Not this thread vegansrock. Boris either goes (I hope not) or he doesn’t. Makes no big difference to me now.

This thread is to highlight incompetence at the highest level in Scotland by the SNP. I just happen to think it’s citizens deserve better.

Must be awfully stressful waiting for those ferries to be up and running - at an eye watering cost too now.
