It seems that the Home Secretary is willing to send people who having spent their recent lives escaping war are now to find themselves forcibly transported to a country now at war with its neighbour.

What is the matter with Patel?

Growstuff "losing " all your ID at sea doesn't make their case does it. And none of you seem to mention them coming from France!

What nonsense are you spouting now? These people are not "illegal", but I doubt if you have the capacity to understand that.

Biscuitmuncher Tue 14-Jun-22 19:41:19

Growstuff you really don't have a clue do you

Breaking: European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg grants rule 39 request to stop the flight to Rwanda from leaving. Basis: real risk of inhuman and degrading treatment (Art. 3 ECHR). Please share - government must comply.

Don’t get this muddled with Brexit.

On the contrary, dear lady, I very much have a clue.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Jun-22 19:53:05

Apparently the courts only allowed the flight to take place provided Patel agreed to bring the asylum seekers back to the U.K., should the judgement go against the government in July.

Most normal governments would wait for that judgement and not spend extravagant amounts of money.

Are you saying that the asylum seekers are legal?

You still haven’t read the 1952 Refugee Convention have you?

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 14-Jun-22 20:07:25

Pritti ‘awful’ Patel is appalling. She should have been sacked a long time ago when that bullying report came out, which Johnson conveniently ignored. Does she not understand international law? Does she sleep at night?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Jun-22 21:00:42

Well, well, the court set up by Johnson’s hero - Winston Churchill - the ECHR - looks as if it is going to stop the barbaric transportation of at least one and more if they get a move on.

Next thing no doubt will be the idiot Johnson’s decision to leave the ECHR. Then none of us will have recall to a court that is totally independent.

MaizieD Tue 14-Jun-22 21:20:10

If we leave the ECHR then the Good Friday Agreement goes belly up...

Then it's definitely Trade War Here We Come.

(and I know who'll lose that war...)

Oops, sorry HousePlantQueen. I copied the wrong post.

NotSpaghetti Tue 14-Jun-22 22:11:53

The flight is off for now. The ECHR has intervened at last.

HousePlantQueen because those who are coming here are illegal and it's costing a fortune to keep them here

I'm sure I posted this before. People are not illegal. That is a ridiculous thing to say. Arriving in a country and applying for asylum is not illegal.

Just repeating the lies will not make them truths.

Brilliant.

growstuff Tue 14-Jun-22 22:20:54

No doubt the government and its acolytes will use this as ammunition in its war against "woke lefties", but for tonight the important thing is that the plane didn't fly. smile

DaisyAnne Tue 14-Jun-22 22:21:17

Just watching the BBC and it says that Downing Street has said the flight won't leave tonight.

growstuff Tue 14-Jun-22 22:21:40

Oh! And just a reminder to anybody who's forgotten ...

The ECHR is nothing to do with the EU.

Urmstongran Tue 14-Jun-22 22:23:51

What's the point of a Supreme Court that is evidently not supreme?

This is beyond embarrassing for the government.

growstuff Tue 14-Jun-22 22:26:00

The government deserves to be embarrassed.

NotSpaghetti Tue 14-Jun-22 22:28:38

It is embarrassing for the government Urmstongran but they were warned about it almost certainly being illegal and tried to go ahead anyway.

growstuff Tue 14-Jun-22 22:28:39

I don't want to live in a pariah state.

The ECHR was set up with huge support from Churchill to protect Europeans from the extremes of Nazism and Stalinism and I'm glad it still has some teeth after all these years. smile

They have embarrassed themselves.

Time for some resignations?
