Boris Back by Christmas! ?

Surely the only reason the Tories would want Johnson back is to appeal to the electorate who voted for him at the last election. Times have changed though. He was the PM when the recent bye elections were held and the Tories performed badly and lost previously safe seats. Polls show a huge level of dissatisfaction with Johnson's performance.

We are the worst performing nation in the G7. Our trade with Europe is in disarray. The economy is in crisis. The potential new PM suggests she will tear up workers' rights. Millions have been wasted on failed contracts handed without due process to friends, laws have been broken, rule breakers and liars have not been held to account. Industrial relations are at an all time low.

At what point do people stop believing manifestos and start judging on past performance?

She might not implode, as some say. ‘ The Office maketh the man’ may be right in her case.

Meaning, it’s only when you are in the job, that you settle well into the work, and the responsibility.

halfpint1 It was Boris's speed at getting the vaccination out and available that was his strong point. Don't you remember the EU being slated because they were very slow off the mark in introducing the vaccinations. I remember at the time being relieved at having left the EU as they were so slow.

And another thing Boris was good at was his dealings with Ukraine. Again, much better and firmer than the EU.

This is true, Cats. But I'm afraid you won't get the labourites on GN to recognise that, or anything else that was achieved by his government (such as the swift furlough payments and loans). I imagine that many Conservative MPs may live to regret putting their letters in, indeed probably do already, because Truss isn't likely to be a vote winner in a GE. Charisma goes a long way - witness Blair, Clegg, Johnson. She's devoid of it.

Yes Boris did get the vaccine out quickly but as for the rest and as for Ukraine that is just a booster to his over inflated ego, he got a medal out of it but I would much rather he sorted out the NHS for the winter and tackled raising prices. Giving the vaccinations was due to the hard work by the NHS who he has chosen to ignore a decent pay rise.

Another one here who is not so sure that BJ 'got it right' over Ukraine.It came as a welcome distraction and chance to talk big. The £2 billion we have apparently spent on arms means £2 billion into the pockets of tory voting arms manufacturers when all our public services are on their knees. Or so it seems to me.

He may well be hail fellow, well met in the Ukraine so I suppose that is a plus that his acolytes can hold dear.

The vaccine was out quickly, not least because research in our to- universities was excellent . The nhs supported by an army of volunteers delivered the vaccine
Sunak and his furlough scheme, the extra £20 per week for people on benefits was excellent.
Like most, I’m keen to support Ukraine but I dislike Johnson’s attempt to paint himself as a churchillian war leader.

12 years of Tory misrule leaves our public services in disarray, Liz Truss doesn’t impress me as a quick thinker or the strong, confident leader the country needs now.

The choice hasn't been binary though has it. It wasn't Johnson or Truss. There were several other candidates. MPs will have helped select Truss should she win. Many have publicly backed her.

Yes GSM he could have done something, he resigned and wanted to stay on until September, what has he done in that time, had holidays, a leaving party, a wedding party, a royal tour of the UK to say goodbye and he is even having the cheek to go Scotland to hand in his resignation to the Queen in person, instead of doing it as other PMs have done, By letter. But then it’s another jolly for him. He left the whole country in limbo and a laughing stock. He is an absolute disgrace.

You have your views and are entitled to them BOB. I have mine and am similarly entitled. Quite what you expect a 'lame duck' PM to do, especially when parliament is in recess, I don't know. But we mustn't have holidays, must we?

No one said you couldn’t have your views, I just replied to your post, what did I expect him to do? He could have recalled parliament, after all we had a national emergency with the cost of living. He could have at least appeared to be concerned. But no, party on Boris.

Big calls right? Like leaving lockdown late? Not limiting international travel till the last minute? Not attending Cobra meetings? Allowing Covid patients back into nursing homes? Spending billions on track n trace ? Handing out contracts to chums? Opening schools then closing them the next day? Supporting Cummings, Patterson, Hancock and Pincher? Vaccinations? European countries caught up and have overtaken us this is never mentioned.

Barmeyoldbat - If people do ‘idolise’ Johnson they must have similar standards to him in integrity, attention to detail, and reliability.

If he intended to do nothing except have parties, have holidays and make vanity trips he should have left the post straight away and left the country to the deputy PM.

How you can tolerate such blatant money grabbing and idleness is beyond my understanding and that of many other members of the public.
