I’m starting a thread so we can add our thoughts and hopes for the future. The King will address the nation at midday.

He and Camilla have my support although I know not everyone feels that way.

God Save the King.

Camilla will probably be kicking off her shoes, pouring a large G&T and curling up on the sofa with her dogs!

She'll also be able to see her own family in private.

DaisyAnne Wed 14-Sept-22 20:09:55

Dogs and G & T but I do hope they can have an early night. Will they be hosting the leaders coming from abroad when they arrive?

Calendargirl Wed 14-Sept-22 20:32:30

Gosh Merlotgran, you just don’t realise how old they all are!

The DofG 78!

I also thought he looked to be struggling,

Callistemon21 Wed 14-Sept-22 20:35:54

At least I think the Duke of Kent went by car (I think).

I always thought the Duke of Gloucester was younger than me, he always looked quite boyish ?

The famous journalist who wrote Harry and Meghan's biography and who is at the head of their PR team broadcast yesterday that the Queen's coffin would travel from Scotland "over to the UK'".
Doesn't bode well for anyone when those who are supposed to know it all can't even get that right!

??????
Oh dear!

Famous doesn’t mean knowledgeable evidently. But recollections may vary. ??

volver Thu 15-Sept-22 08:26:52

Maybe he was broadcasting from the future. ?

Lucca Thu 15-Sept-22 08:59:45

“ But recollections may vary”

Apparently this came from sir Clive alderton, the Kings aide/adviser

Iam64 Thu 15-Sept-22 09:08:44

Thank you Lucca

Rosina Thu 15-Sept-22 09:23:01

I thought that phrase was absolutely perfect - a diplomatic triumph.

tickingbird Thu 15-Sept-22 10:56:31

“Some recollections may vary” came from the late Queen

Mollygo Thu 15-Sept-22 11:17:26

I don’t mind where “Some recollections may vary” came from.
It is useful in so many fields, from the RF down to the “He pushed me over and I didn’t do anything. You can ask anyone.” in the playground.
So thank you very much to the late Queen-or Sir Clive.

volver Thu 15-Sept-22 11:47:57

I for one don't believe that the late Queen personally wrote the Buckingham Palace Statements any more than I believe that the King writes his own speeches. Of course they sign them off and tweak them, that's how it works.

However if focussing on the "recollections may vary" statement, attention should be given to the whole sentence: While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

It means that different people have different views of what was said and it is being investigated. Very diplomatic indeed, but far from calling anyone a liar, wouldn't you say?

Lexisgranny Thu 15-Sept-22 11:53:48

I agree, No one was called a liar, but equally written with the knowledge that interpretations of the phrase “may vary”

Very accurate and neatly put Lexisgranny.?

tickingbird Thu 15-Sept-22 12:10:08

I didn’t suggest she/him did accuse them of lying.

No, indeed you didn't tickingbird. Interesting though that you felt you had to tell us that.

Mollygo Thu 15-Sept-22 13:16:03

No you didn’t tickingbird, but it’s as well to clarify that as interpretations may vary. ?

tickingbird Thu 15-Sept-22 15:21:53

Clarification not usually necessary but you have a strange habit of stretching what I say into what you would prefer I’d said so as to use as a launch pad for whatever argument you’re engaging in on any given day!

I am
Merely saying what was reported in the Times article about what a clever and trusted man the Kings adviser is and that is where they clearly state it was his phrase

Prentice Thu 15-Sept-22 15:35:01

the recollections may vary statement very cleverly didn't state that lies had been told but neatly summed up what the royal family and many people too I dare say thought of Harry and Meghan and their victimhood status.

I think she and Charles deserve a feet up situation and a glass or two now.

I promised somebody on this site earlier this week that I wouldn't use the word paranoia as an insult, so I won't.
