Was he taking a private phone call? That’s the least disreputable take I have on him, appearing to talk, laugh, wipe his face with his hand and appear to sway.

The clip I first viewed was on The Independent online front page yesterday.

Iam64 ? I’m ‘away’ too! I hope that you are having a nice time smile

I’ve had a quick look. Google brings up several news reports on his behaviour at the Queen’s funeral. All critical.
There has been nothing in the past 24 hours that I could find. No statement from Mr Kwateng or the Conservative Party.
Very unusual.

Oh my word, we really don’t need another chancellor off his head on coke. Osborne did enough damage. I’m hoping there’s another explanation but it really is odd behaviour.

Callistemon21 Fri 23-Sept-22 10:12:35

I expect it's "stress" that will be trotted out.

He's only been in the job for a few days!

Callistemon21 Fri 23-Sept-22 10:16:03

The clip I saw had him appearing to talk and laugh to himself. I have no axe to grind with Mr K but the clips I saw showed behaviour I thought odd at such an important national occasion, and in a place of worship

Did anyone see this on television?

Do you think this is computer trickery going round on social media?
As this hasn't appeared in mainstream media and the Opposition hasn't mentioned it?

Wiping his eyes I can understand.

Fair point, Callistemon21. I hadn't thought of that, and I always believe I'm alert to fake news.

The older I get the more cynical I become Ailidh!

Callistemon21 Fri 23-Sept-22 10:28:15

Ps I'm not saying that's the case, just saying it was a possibility which crossed my mind.

Riverwalk Fri 23-Sept-22 10:44:43

I hope for all our sakes that it's a fake!

JaneJudge Fri 23-Sept-22 10:52:15

The comment about Coffey doing a tommy cooper impression was very funny blush

?

Probably not but the lack of information generally is curious.

Grandmabatty Fri 23-Sept-22 10:54:02

I doubt it's a fake as Suella glances at him when he's talking/laughing. In addition, if it was a fake, wouldn't he respond with righteous indignation?

JaneJudge Fri 23-Sept-22 10:55:40

I've got to be honest, I've most probably fidgeted at funerals or acted inappropriately, so thank goodness I didn't attend the Queen's funeral and wasfree to drink gin at home

maddyone Fri 23-Sept-22 11:00:09

I haven’t seen said clip, but I would have thought that all members of the congregation would have been advised to turn off, or put on silent their mobile phones. I didn’t take my mobile to my mother’s recent funeral, and I’d have thought a great many of the congregation at the queen’s funeral would have done the same.

maddyone Fri 23-Sept-22 11:00:43

I can’t comment on any other behaviour as I haven’t seen the clip.

JaneJudge Fri 23-Sept-22 11:01:22

MissA post the clip maddyone on page 2

Namsnanny Fri 23-Sept-22 11:26:30

He is a supporter of some ADHD charities.
Perhaps he is a sufferer and over/under dosed his medication?

Iam64 Fri 23-Sept-22 13:58:51

If it was jiggery pokery fake news , I’m sure he would have led the outrage.
JaneJudge, I may be wrong but I can’t image your fidgeting being in the same category
Maddyone, miss A posted a link Or you could ask google - or ignore it of course
The silence from the government and opposition is odd

This is MissA's clip, the best one - others I've seen don't show much at all.

Yes, I was just trying to think of possible scenarios.

However, I don't think it's fake; he looks as if he's listening to a joke on an ear piece.
Besides the fact that it's disrespectful at a funeral, it seems to be an utterly stupid thing to do at a solemn event which is being televised worldwide.

Do we want anyone that stupid in charge of our economy?
Frightening.

MayBee70 Fri 23-Sept-22 15:07:37

I’ve just watched it, being fully prepared to say it’s just a storm in a teacup but I’m flabbergasted by his behaviour. Totally inappropriate.

Iam64 Fri 23-Sept-22 15:36:42

Callistemon, that my initial response, that he was listening to something on an ear piece. Whatever as MayBee says, flabbergasting totally inappropriate behaviour in those circumstances
The news black out is weird

MissAdventure Fri 23-Sept-22 15:40:00

He is known for being extremely self confident, from what I have seen, so it doesnt seem that it is a result of him feeling uncomfortable.

maddyone Fri 23-Sept-22 16:44:56

Just watched the clip, thank you MissA. He’s certainly extremely, and I mean extremely fidgety, and not looking very respectful. He looked to me as if he was listening to an ear piece too. Strange. He didn’t appear respectful in the two minute silence, everyone else with heads bowed and standing very still.
