It is mad. I reckon if the members cut up rough and insist on a vote, Johnson will get back in.

Boris hasn't said he's thinking of standing . I can't see him wanting to either.

However, Robert Peston has just mentioned that if Boris stood, he wouldn't rule out his return.

But I still doubt it

Just seen a tweet saying that he is thinking of it.

Only just come on tv

It’s a poisoned chalice whoever is chosen because they’re a divided party. If a GE is called the LP will be handed the poisoned vessel.
A no win situation, but sadly the country is the main loser.

Please, please, please not Braverman.

I will truly know that we were a fascist state if she gets the premiership.

There’s no chance it will be Braverman, Shes far too far right from the team they will be putting in I think. My guess is Sunak PM, Mordaunt Home Secretary, Hunt chancellor.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 20-Oct-22 15:01:27

Robert Peston

@Peston
As I said just now on
@itv
, deep concern that rapid electronic voting by Tory members for new leader brings risk of overseas bad actor, like Russia, hacking the poll and choosing Britain’s new prime minister

growstuff Thu 20-Oct-22 15:01:49

My money would be on that combination too Casdon. (But let's be surprised!)

Farzanah Thu 20-Oct-22 15:02:14

Sunak too divisive.
Braverman ?

Urmstongran Thu 20-Oct-22 15:02:23

I’ve heard Boris plans to stand.
If the membership get a vote it’s a shoo in.
If it’s just a coronation by MP’s it’ll be Sunak.

Blossoming Thu 20-Oct-22 15:02:40

Sunak,

Daisymae Thu 20-Oct-22 15:03:08

No! Johnson! This is insanity. I may have to emigrate.

bevisp1 Thu 20-Oct-22 15:03:13

He’s not everyone’s choice but I say bring back Boris. Or Rishi Sunak.. it’s interesting to know that Liz truss was one of many to get Boris out, now it’s her turn. It can’t be easy to be PM, or for any party that gets to have a PM, personally the conservatives are showing not to be trusted, rather shambolic time for them, although I voted for this party. I wouldn’t want to see Keir Starmer get in either.

Nannytopsy Thu 20-Oct-22 15:03:25

Please God not Johnson

Grantanow Thu 20-Oct-22 15:06:46

Larry the Cat: he couldn't do much worse. Otherwise, one of the intelligent ones Johnson chucked out - Gauk or Willets, say.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 20-Oct-22 15:07:29

Has the paper been stripped off?

Mamie Thu 20-Oct-22 15:09:55

Sunak or Mordaunt. If the membership get a say my money would be on Mordaunt.

Maudi Thu 20-Oct-22 15:17:52

It will be the back stabbing two faced Sunak, he resigned from being the Chancellor causing Boris's downfall thought be would easily win the election to be the new PM but the party members thought differently since then he's been plotting with his cronies to get rid of Truss and it looks like he will succeed. Well I won't be voting for the Tories again or Labour.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 20-Oct-22 15:20:06

Telegraph says Sunak is certainly to stand.

Half the Tory MPs hate him.

Farzanah Thu 20-Oct-22 15:20:47

There won’t be a permanent incumbent anymore, they’re going to rotate the job as on Pointless and HIGNFY. No.10 will be an Airbnb.

growstuff Thu 20-Oct-22 15:23:36

Sunak is currently the bookies' favourite.

Casdon Thu 20-Oct-22 15:25:09

Telegraph says Sunak is certainly to stand.

Half the Tory MPs hate him.

And the other half voted for him and against Boris.
I’m in favour of a wrestling ring, let them slug it out while the public watches on the 6pm News. At least that way there would be transparency about the winner.

Allsorts Thu 20-Oct-22 15:27:50

Who knows. It’s been truly awful. She got in wrong, has done the right thing but left chaos, She hadn’t a chance, she took on a dreadful task, trusted her friend KK foolishly, didn’t handle it well, I have written to the house and MP saying she was not fit for the job. Yet I hate bullies, this has been bullying. One thing I won’t forget, long after she’s history, is Keir Starmer, his constant harassment, it has been brutal, first against Boris with partygate, he did the same against LizTruss, he did it with that sanctimonious monotone voice saying he’s ready to be leader, when did he ever have a thought of his own, since being opposition leader he hasn’t had a policy off his own. Anyone is better than him, we don’t need a general election, there will be a change in government, there has to, it can’t be a one party race as it’s been. At least Boris loved this country. Keir has shown along with Angela this country is way down their list on their list of priorities. They will do what labour always do, borrow up to the hilt, then when there’s no way out leave it to conservative to pick up the pieces by not fighting the election like last time. I am not conservative, yet definitely not labour because they are incompetent even without Covid. I go for the policies, not slavishly follow a political party if I don’t agree with their values. The last thing the country needs is a General Election. If there is I shall accept all the sweeteners Labour hand out on a pay later basis. .

Stormystar Thu 20-Oct-22 15:28:45

We live in a democratic society so Do we get the leaders we deserve ! I do not like or loathe him but my monies on Sunak.
