Who?

If Boris does decide to stand, I think the MPs would be fools not to bite his hand off.
Looking ahead to the general election, the Torys must surely realise that he is the best candidate by far to save the country from the horror of a Labour government.

But if the voters are the Tory MPs surely, surely they wouldn't consider Boris Johnson? Would make them look ridiculous. And unelectable.

Casdon Thu 20-Oct-22 15:30:27

So in answering the question that was posed for this thread, what you’re saying in a roundabout way then Allsorts is that you think Keir Starmer will be the next Prime Minister?

MayBee70 Thu 20-Oct-22 15:31:37

I feel as though the countries being run by some sort of weird religious sect…..

I know. We really need strong and stable and only a Conservative government can provide that…

I think we'll be having a GE before Christmas so it won't matter hugely
who is elected

Could be wrong of course, I often am

I've read comments that Boris is thinking about it but we'll have to see. I prefer to wait until something official is said.

That really would be bonkers
We won't need pantomimes this Christmas, the Conservatives are providing one

paddyann54 Thu 20-Oct-22 15:43:09

Allsorts that was a joke...right? Labour will borrow to the hilt and then leave?
When this incompetent ,lying .cheating bunch of Tories came to power the national debt was @£800 billion .Now its over 3 TRILLION ...a lot of that is money given to mates during the pandemic ..where in your parallel universe are Tories capable of a stable economy ?

paddyann54 Thu 20-Oct-22 15:45:56

Allsorts I'm not a labour supporter but even I can see they have more chance of running a government that actually gets things done instead of acting like kids in asweet shop deciding who to give money to next and what favours they'll get in return!!

Would he really want the job again though?
Isn’t it more likely that he’s thoroughly enjoying his life now?
More time to spend with his young family. Lucrative after dinner speeches, along with maybe resuming his career in journalism, all of which pay a damn sight more than that of PM.

He’s had a taste of freedom, so would he really want to give all that up ?

On the other hand though, there’s the aspect of political ambition…..

Lucca Thu 20-Oct-22 15:53:29

At least Boris loved this country. Keir has shown along with Angela this country is way down their list on their list of priorities

Absolute baloney.

Visgir1 Thu 20-Oct-22 16:00:40

Boris had the mandate..
Penny steady hand...
No GE for a while too unstable, Economically.

Good comment with insight as to how Boris' mind probably works *Jennifer Eccles".
I hope Liz Truss will now spend more time with her family too. However I can't see her being successful on the circuit of after dinner speeches in so many ways!

He’s not everyone’s choice but I say bring back Boris. Or Rishi Sunak.. it’s interesting to know that Liz truss was one of many to get Boris out, now it’s her turn. It can’t be easy to be PM, or for any party that gets to have a PM, personally the conservatives are showing not to be trusted, rather shambolic time for them, although I voted for this party. I wouldn’t want to see Keir Starmer get in either.

He is the choice of a very few. I've said it before; if he comes back I would march ... somehow.

He is still being investigated.

Fleurpepper Thu 20-Oct-22 16:11:40

Stormystar

We live in a democratic society so Do we get the leaders we deserve ! I do not like or loathe him but my monies on Sunak.

How Demoratic will the choice be? or Truss?

Who will elect them. Not the people for sure. First past the Post elections are not democratic anyhow- but this? Less than 1% of the population will decide? Possibly less. So 'democracy'- nope and more nope!

Mamie Thu 20-Oct-22 16:14:27

Yup. Boris returns as PM in October, Partygate investigation conclusions in November, Boris resigns again, another leadership contest in time for Christmas.
Surely even the Tory party isn't that witless. ?

Maudi Thu 20-Oct-22 16:15:47

Boris is the favourite, you couldn't make it up could you.

MissAdventure Thu 20-Oct-22 16:16:06

It'll be Sunak, I think.

Farzanah Thu 20-Oct-22 16:17:11

I don’t think we live in a real democracy for reasons you state Fleur, also we have an unelected Head of State.

growstuff Thu 20-Oct-22 16:19:56

Jokers to the right, jokers to the left ... we get allsorts on GN! hmm

PS. Starmer is the leader of the opposition. It's his job to oppose the government!

MissAdventure Thu 20-Oct-22 16:22:09

I quite like Starmer.

Barmeyoldbat Thu 20-Oct-22 16:29:32

If Boris becomes PM, again, what happens when the result of the investigation into him lying to Parliament is given, probably before Christmas. If he is found guilty he out on his ear and so do we have yet another go at getting a Tory PM. Also any PM is given an annual gift of over 100,000 a year for life. Will he have to return it, does Liz still get it after only 45 days. A right mess, need a ge

Mamie Thu 20-Oct-22 16:30:47

I think the Sunak camp will see off Boris and the Boris camp will see off Sunak. Which leaves Mordaunt.

CoolCoco Thu 20-Oct-22 16:32:35

They've just got rid of Johnson for constant lying, laziness, incompetence, U turns every other week, and yet people want him back? He is only interested in his own position and glorification and not remotely interested in the good of the country. Hideous.

Oldbat1 Thu 20-Oct-22 16:32:59

Omg how anyone can even contemplate Johnson returning - I despair!!!!! He is still under investigation which will no doubt be cancelled. He has been on holiday since being made to resign or giving lucrative after dinner speeches he is still so so corrupt.
Braverman resigned yesterday after admitting ministerial misconduct. No way should she be considered. Nasty piece of work.
Next I’ll be reading Mogg will be considered.
The mind boggles at these possibilities.

Maudi Thu 20-Oct-22 16:34:48

Well Boris has cut his holiday short and is supposedly on his way back to the UK. Wouldn't that be a turn up for the book.
