Suella Braverman scuttling out of the commons today to avoid scrutiny is a clear indication that nothing has changed with the Tories. The question from Yvette Cooper was tabled in plenty of time so she has no excuses. The fact that she walked out in full view of the speaker doesn't enhance his reputation either.

That’s a very detailed, interesting post MayBee. I d missed her dreadful invasion of the Court of Appeal. It seems her arrogance knows no bounds

MayBee70 Fri 28-Oct-22 19:07:24

There was a lot more than that but I struggle to copy things on my iPad. I knew that Johnson had somehow fast tracked her into the position as Attorney General. She just seemed to be there imo to enable him to break the law rather than uphold it. It’s a pity that I don’t know more about the publication but the article does seem to be very factual.

Casdon Fri 28-Oct-22 19:39:22

Bit by bit the truth is coming out. People are breaking cover. She will be toast I suspect.

Why is wishi still defending her? Has she got something on him?

Normandygirl Fri 28-Oct-22 20:45:05

Rishi blush

varian Fri 28-Oct-22 20:59:16

Suella is an influential member of the ERG - the real government of this country.

Normandygirl Fri 28-Oct-22 23:13:36

Why have a ministerial code if there are no consequences for breaking it? Braverman is becoming a heavy millstone around Sunak's political neck and by keeping her in post he is showing a complete disregard for the rules, just like Boris.

Chocolatelovinggran Fri 28-Oct-22 23:29:07

Golly, Maybee - that article is more than a little alarming. Thank you for the enlightenment.

Wyllow3 Sat 29-Oct-22 08:53:31

More than a little thinking she's got something on Rishi, but its all "behind closed doors"

OR

he can't get her out because of the right of the party see it as flagship appointment

unless we have more compelling evidence. Also too soon? Biding time?

Fleurpepper Sat 29-Oct-22 10:22:36

varian

Suella is an influential member of the ERG - the real government of this country.

This- and as said again, I would urge anyone who is concerned about this to write to the other Party Leaders and ask them to seriously question the rôle of the ERG- request for a full official list with compulsory disclosure, and a proper investigation of their aims and activities.

Ask on social media, the Press, Twitter- it is time we found out exactly who they are, where they get their funding on top of Government funding (and why they get any at all???), and more.

Reported in The Times.

Braverman refused a request to move some asylum seekers out of a very overcrowded residence, after she was told that it was a serious health hazard.

Result

Scabies and Diphtheria spread amongst the people crammed in there.

Normandygirl Sat 29-Oct-22 12:49:59

Thats disgraceful Whitewavemark2
Does anyone understand why the Home Office are taking so long to process these people? I read that the fastest an application takes to " get to panel" is 400 days. After that it can take literally years to get a decision. No body explains why, is it staff shortages? Incompetence? Putin's fault?

growstuff Sat 29-Oct-22 13:12:54

Home Office staff unions claim there are staff shortages and antiquated IT systems.

varian Sat 29-Oct-22 18:10:48

I liked the cartoon of Pritti Patel advising Suella to be a bit more compassionate.

We thought that we could never have had a worse Home Secretary or a less compassionate Home Secretary than Pritti Patel - then along came Suella.

You could never have made it up. Who next???

MayBee70 Sat 29-Oct-22 19:57:55

Vlad the Impaler?

Casdon Sat 29-Oct-22 20:01:35

There’s one obvious right wing candidate to replace her who was in the cabinet before - JRM. I suspect though that he’d rather be outside the circle p…..g in.

More news about Braverman's place among the "compassionate" Conservatives.

Well, Sunak may have to answer questions about her next week:

'Rishi Sunak is facing a crunch vote on the release of documents related to his controversial decision to appoint Suella Braverman as home secretary, as the prime minister comes under growing pressure.

Labour has vowed to table a “humble address” that could force the government to share the security and risk assessments regarding Ms Braverman’s admitted security lapse.

Sir Keir Starmer’s party has demanded that Mr Sunak clarifies what he knew about Ms Braverman sharing documents from her own email account, and whether she may have leaked market-sensitive"

Normandygirl Sun 30-Oct-22 17:54:43

Ignoring all advice seems to be the Conservatives modus operandi it seems Volver
It's quite a clever move from Starmer as a defeat on the vote will do more damage to the Tories than a win.
Heads I win, tails you lose situation.

Wyllow3 Sun 30-Oct-22 18:10:37

I hit a paywall on the reference, "humble address" is new to me, can someone explain?

As the timeline becomes clearer of how she tried to cover up the email by asking the recipients to delete it, then only owning up when she found out the recipients had shopped her - well, just further disgusted.

Again, why is Rishi dragging his feet? Hopefully this L Party move will force the issue given hostility to her in her own party.

(I also didn't know some of the asylum matters mentioned above, thank you)

DaisyAnne Sun 30-Oct-22 21:21:08

The Opposition sometimes table a motion in the form of a humble address on Opposition days. A humble address is a message to the Queen. It’s used, among other things to call for papers from departments headed by a Secretary of State.

It can be debated, amended and voted on like any other motion.

Humble addresses, if agreed, are understood to be binding on the House.

That's as it was written. Obviously, it will now be the King.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 31-Oct-22 06:08:26

So, now we see how Braverman’s dream of hate towards those fleeing war, hunger, torture and kept in overcrowded, disease ridden conditions, translates when processed by individuals who themselves are clearly vulnerable to being influenced by this hate.

They bomb the facility then kill themselves.

Hate breeds violence.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 31-Oct-22 08:51:56

Good to listen to Sir Roger Gale condemn Braverman over the Marston immigration centre.

Some Tories have what it takes to be humane.

Normandygirl Mon 31-Oct-22 11:30:39

I can't help suspecting that all these delays in processing are deliberate tactics from the Tories to emphasise and ramp up the rhetoric of the problems that immigrants are causing. They are not even trying to solve the problem because it is serving a useful purpose for the right wing. They want a daily diet of headlines spouting the eye watering costs, the overcrowding, the erupting violence to paint the picture of how threatened the UK has become because of the "illegal" boat people. It's a well used political tactic to, first create a crisis and then present ourselves as the only ones who can solve it.

Casdon Mon 31-Oct-22 11:38:22

It’s not going the way they wanted it to surely - Diptheria outbreaks due to overcrowding are very bad optics, and there’s evidence directly implicating Braverman in the delays. My money is on her going before the end of this week.
