Now this is terrifying- and sheer terrorism

this is what happens when certain groups are demonised, not just by some far right weirdos, like Tony Robinson and Farage, but by Foreign Secretaries like Priti Patel or Suella Braverman. They whip up hatred, and have to take some responsability, for this terrorism.

So, excuse me if I don't get too worried about some man in a wig, or some woman in a wig and too much make-up, opens a door and the closes it again and goes away! Perspective!

Smileless2012 Thu 03-Nov-22 12:18:17

I don't see any connection Fleur to your extremely vague reference to "some man in a wig" confused.

Galaxy Thu 03-Nov-22 12:19:47

Are you going to do this with all subjects on here. Theres a thread about roast dinners at the moment, do they need to get some perspective as well. You do know it's possible to think about a range of issues.

SueDonim Thu 03-Nov-22 12:22:22

Have you been authorised to dictate what topics we may or may not post about, Fleurpepper?

Caleo Thu 03-Nov-22 12:24:00

Hear Fleurpepper! This is true.

Caleo Thu 03-Nov-22 12:26:03

Sue Donim, we are all "authorised" as free speakers to speak whatever we deem to be true and good, as long as it's lawful.

Caleo Thu 03-Nov-22 12:27:17

Liberal moderators object only if a post is unlawful.

Smileless2012 Thu 03-Nov-22 12:29:16

I agree Caleo but what's the connection?

Galaxy Thu 03-Nov-22 12:32:39

Do you mean on here caleo?
It doesnt have to be unlawful it just has to break the guidelines. So someone could be deleted for troll hunting etc which in itself isnt unlawful.

VioletSky Thu 03-Nov-22 12:35:59

This is why hate speech must be quashed on all platforms

It encourages and enables this kind of violence towards innocent people

Pretty disgusting responses to this thread so far

Hope it improves

Stormystar Thu 03-Nov-22 12:37:27

Any form of terrorism be it extreme far left or extreme far right is of course utterly abhorrent. But the connection with people wearing wigs and opening doors has me baffled. Or Fleurpepper are you saying transgenderism is now under the rubric of terrorism.

Smileless2012 Thu 03-Nov-22 12:38:43

Which are the pretty disgusting responses?

Galaxy Thu 03-Nov-22 12:40:16

The attempt to control speech is much more dangerous than the terrible things some people may say. It is without fail minorities who suffer when there are further attempts to control speech. People seem to be of the naive belief that the control of speech will always be in the hands of the 'good guys'.

JenniferEccles Thu 03-Nov-22 12:43:36

The issue is nothing whatsoever to do with ‘whipping up hatred’ as you put it, but in the case of the Home Secretary, trying against all the odds to secure our borders and to break the criminal people smuggling gangs.

I’m pretty sure this endeavour has the support of the majority of the population.

By the way, Nigel Farage isn’t a far Right weirdo. Again, he speaks for a lot of people here, just not the prolific posters on GN though!

GrannyGravy13 Thu 03-Nov-22 12:55:44

All terrorism is abhorrent wherever and whoever the organisation or lone wolf are.

Some women feel terrified to find a man in a wig in their women only spaces.

Chocolatelovinggran Thu 03-Nov-22 12:59:10

Jennifer Eccles- do you have evidence that Nigel Farage speaks for " a lot of people "? Perhaps you know people for whom he speaks, but that is anecdotal, which I could counter with he speaks for no one I know.
When he stood for Parliament, he was unsuccessful.

VioletSky Thu 03-Nov-22 13:01:55

People who share stories that they clearly haven't fact checked because it furthers their own agenda are the literally whipping up hatred and are definitely responsible for enabling abuse and violence

Minority groups are constantly being talked about yet other stories ignored.

As one example

1% of sexual violence in the UK results in charges and conviction but we need 17 threads about the dangers of "trans women" instead

Yes. Perspective

Some are rather skewed

Galaxy Thu 03-Nov-22 13:14:25

Who gets to decide what is whipping up hatred VS. You? Elon Musk perhaps. Good luck with that.

GagaJo Thu 03-Nov-22 13:19:36

Exactly Fleurpepper. Couldn't agree more.

Victims.

Galaxy Thu 03-Nov-22 13:23:25

No they dont. Sorry but victims of anything will have little control over what can and can be said on Twitter for example. They can campaign and protest but the decisions wont be made by them.

Galaxy Thu 03-Nov-22 13:23:51

Can and cant be said that should say.

Of course it is the victims, they are the ones seeking justice under the law

Galaxy Thu 03-Nov-22 13:27:40

I am talking about control of speech. On gransnet that on the whole lies with the owners of the website and obviously in certain cases with the law. Same with Twitter. It wont always be the good guys who decide on control of speech.

VioletSky Thu 03-Nov-22 13:29:52

No one is controlling speech just having an opinion on it
