New immigration bill - how on earth will it work?

So the latest wheeze from Sunak is to export every single asylum seeker who arrives on our shores, who have not gone through the proper channels or “safe route”

So,

Can anyone explain what safe routes are available.

Can anyone explain the countries willing to accept these exports?

Rwanda has agreed some sort of mutual export agreement - so they will take a few hundred in exchange for us taking theirs. So I’m unclear how that will reduce the pressure - if it ever gets off the ground.

Can anyone explain where all these people are going to be held whilst waiting export, as the law is to apply retrospectively.

Can anyone explain how the Tory government is NOT breaking international law?

One of Cummings' big ideas wasn't a new one at all. He was so arrogant he even boasted in public meetings about creating division (to prove how clever he is).

This is pure UKIP, but it's been hitched up to the idea that people are poor as a result of immigration.

The Tories don't have any ideas for the economy (except to make themselves rich), so they're having to keep the culture wars going.

Socially conservative voters include Labour voters and the Tories are trying to keep them on their side.

What if you are black or an ethnic minority and voted leave what does that make you? What if you have mixed race family but you are white and voted leave? Or do you have to be white to be racist? Sunak and Suella Braverman are people of colour and its their Bill going through parliament to Stop Illegal Migrants what group do they come under and to add to his sins Sunak voted Leave 🤔 Uneducated, Racist or Old or do some have a get out clause?

That doesn't make sense.

Why on earth shouldn't a black person have the same concerns about the EU as anybody else?

growstuff Wed 08-Mar-23 08:36:58

Maudi I think you should mug up Venn diagrams.

QED.

What bit of growstuff's post don't you understand, Maudi?

Nobody has ever claimed that everybody who voted for Brexit is racist or not well-educated.

I never took offence. People are entitled to their opinions. Plus I’m ‘elderly’. And didn’t go to university so ‘not well educated’. I’m not racist though. So yes, 2 out of 3 means I fit the space in the Venn diagram.

It's not an 'opinion' though, Ug. It's a fact. Sadly, the 'racist' (does xenophobic sound better?) element is the tory's target demographic in promoting this legislation.

Of course it is! And when it fails, there's the double whammy that they can blame those "woke" luvvie lawyers and civil servants (all living in Islington apparently hmm).

The fact is that half the population is below average in education.
The migrant issue is not about racism it’s about foreigners coming to the UK without limit and benefiting from our culture and lifestyle, we know that many are deliberately destroying passports so they cannot be returned.

Or is anyone saying that our borders should be open to all.

Maudi Wed 08-Mar-23 08:46:55

Well certain posters on here keep making snide remarks about people who voted Leave so I'm just curious. Another thought what if you are black, elderly and poor and voted Leave a triple whammy.

Sorry growstuff but I cannot let this go unchallenged. Wages HAVE gone up in most sectors (hospitality for instance or better hours/working conditions) as the ready flow of EU seasonal workers dried up post Brexit. Polish plasterers, Bulgarian nannies and Spanish heavy goods drivers became less available and firms had to entice UK folk to pick up the slack. Of course they weren’t ‘sending money home’ at a good exchange rate and had mortgages to pay here so wages had to reflect that fact.

It is not racist to want to protect U.K. borders and know who/why people are seeking asylum here.

A plan desperately needs to be formed and passed and implemented ASAP, unfortunately I do not think the current Bill is that plan.

MaizieD reads a legal blogger who thinks the proposed legislation won’t work.
I volunteer with poor uneducated ( on the GN scale) 😉 women.
They think exactly the same as the legal blogger.
Funny old world 😊

Nor benefiting but contributing to our culture and lifestyle.

No you know very well that there is no suggestion that the borders should be completely open.

But stop the dead weight of such inhumane and unworkable bills. Stop the spread of hate.

Reorganise a totally dysfunctional HO and get a grip with the whole situation. 13 years they’ve had, but all they’ve done is make matters worse imo done so deliberately as their ideology of divide and rule demands a degree of othering and hate.

growstuff Wed 08-Mar-23 08:54:11

So how come immigration has increased since Brexit?

How come small businesses are closing because there's a shortage of labour?

Where's your proof that wages have increased and conditions improved?

By the way, many immigrants do other kinds of work which have contributed to GDP.

growstuff Wed 08-Mar-23 08:56:22

Katie I'm getting confused. Are you talking about former EU citizens, asylum seekers or those who work under the radar?

Nothing like a bit of "faux victimhood" to start the day!

So similar to the 30s Nazis 😮😮😮 surely not. For reference please see my next post

Confused?
The only former EU citizens are us

Once in the EU travellers are not checked they don’t need “help” I can get into a car and drive from Calais to Albania no one is going to check it takes 3 days.

The new immigration bill will work if it is legal?
Or laws are changed to make it legal?
And there is the will to do so?

Absolutely!

And come up with something workable that will stop the traffickers making money by putting people’s lives at risk.

I’ve yet to see any suggestions from any party or any individual that will address that aspect of the matter.
I’ll admit I don’t have a workable solution.

It would be great to hear either workable solutions or some admission that there is no such solution to the trafficking.

fancythat Wed 08-Mar-23 09:26:50

And if there are not loopholes?
That would be then necessary to close the loopholes to make it work?
If there is the will to do so?

It will break international law which most countries in the world respect and are signed up to.

So there is no question that we can simply change the law
