WWW2.
Politicians need to get re elected and therefore do try to show the majority of voters that they have the message. Just because the left here is prepared to welcome anyone who arrives from wherever that view is not shared by the majority of the population. So politicians have to demonstrate they know what voters think. Suella B is not the sharpest knife in the box. But she is reflecting the views expressed in Cabinet. And I ask you what is going on among the Pakistani male population. Why arent their spokesmen speaking up and condemning the rape of young girls (of British background) by men of their faith. What has happened to the teacher in Batley forced into hiding for daring to show a depiction of Mohammed. I understand that he has not been able to resume his normal life. Why arent you mentioning that and why doesnt Jo Cox's sister, the current labour MP speak out? Fear of the local Muslim hotheads, I suspect. I also acknowledge that the pace of dealing with applications for asylum and removal of economic migrants is far too slow but Tony Blair opened up the country to immigration (votes you know) and a home office full of civil servants who couldnt work in an iron lung and if you think labour will do much better you are deluded, optimistic very nice people.

Good grief.

Is that you Suella?

The government has to house the people arriving in boats doesn’t it volver? Isn’t it understandable that those on the streets, in B&Bs, in substandard rented property is going to be angry that these people are given accommodation in hotels? It’s now being said that the former barracks proposed to be used instead of hotels isn’t up to standard. Unsurprisingly as it’s been empty for years, but still a damn sight better than what some have to put up with.

I’m still waiting for some indication as to how we can deal with our own population’s housing and other problems at the same time as looking after people arriving in droves in boats, which you claimed could be achieved. We are accepting everyone who arrives until such time as their applications for asylum are refused, are we not? Housing them, giving them money, doubtless providing healthcare if needed, educating the children…

What percentage of the total migrants arrive ‘in droves on boats’? Last years figures will do.

Blimey straight out of the NAT CON conference.

So I was right at 16:57 then.

Is it wilful misunderstanding I wonder, or just inability to reason it out?

growstuff Mon 15-May-23 17:20:26

Why do you have to resort to strawman arguments?

The "left" is not prepared to
welcome
anybody
from anywhere.

There are many people who recognise the UK's obligations under international law and they are by no means all "left-wing" anyway.

Are you seriously suggesting that all Muslims are hotheads or that there aren't non-Muslim hotheads? If you are, shame on you!

Where is your evidence that the majority of the population agrees with Jo Cox? Have you ever spoken to a cross section of the population?

ronib Mon 15-May-23 17:25:42

Not Jo Cox … sadly not possible but the sister of Jo Cox.

The Home Office reckons it's usually 6% of all immigrants, but last year was an exception for a number of reasons and it was 11% - still a small percentage of the total.

By the way, I think people are a tad confused. They're lumping together child abusers from an Asian background, most of whom most certainly did not arrive by small boat and some were born in the UK, and those who have arrived on small boats. It seems that any excuse to bash Muslims will do!

Can anyone explain to me why politicians whose families were welcomed to this country to escape wars etc seem to be the ones most opposed to helping others that are suffering the same fate?

Show how this is true?
I don’t think their families came over on dinghies and paid people smugglers thousands of pounds.

They still came here escaping war and persecution. Anyway, look at the way this government treated the Windrush generation.

Inability to reason...I am laughing aloud. Volver 3 telling an LSE postgrad that she does nit have such an ability. I guess if i was a Scot and supported Volver's opinion, she would not speak so loftily to me. As to WWM2, have you forgotten that my contact in the media is looking into this organization and that their meeting is going on in London? I will get off here and so should you to find out what is being said. I hear that they want to get Boris back because they do not trust Rishi and believe UK citizens need a faction who supports British values etc...whatever they are. I am NOT a supporter of this group but I do want to find out their number and their aims, so I am not affiliated in any way any more that you are a member of the SWP or a supporter of the Jeremy Corbyn faction...you arent are you???

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 15-May-23 17:30:27

Never mind percentage of migrants growstuff, it’s the numbers arriving almost daily in dinghies who are the problem.

What exactly are the government doing about landlords that rent out substandard accommodation? Shouldn’t they be concentrating more on that. And shouldn’t it be given the publicity given to people arriving here via people trafficers? But that doesn’t fit the governments agenda of trying to make the electorate think that all of the problems facing this country, social and economic are purely down to migrants? Oh and maybe if the government tried to provide rental accommodation to people who can’t afford to buy a property there wouldn’t be a problem with unscrupulous landlords.

Growstuff a young politician with two young children was murdered trying to do her job as an mp. Also David Amiss … I don’t think we value the work of our mps and the risks they take in representing us. In fact, the sister of Jo Cox refuses to hold open surgeries.

Indeed she is. And having to suffer the usual insults for that from the unrepresentative few.
