Has the penny dropped (as fast as the Pound)- Brexit is a disaster

Is there anyone here on GN still prepared to stand and say that it is not- and give evidence to the effect?

Callistemon21 Fri 16-Jun-23 15:13:03

And above inflation which is taking place in many places, and putting prices up in those places, the UK has to pay double- inflation cost, + Brexit cost + low Sterling exchange rates. Quite simple- and not a positive at all

But if we live here, then we receive our pensions, our salaries etc in GBP.

The UK is still a far less expensive place to live than the other-country-which-must-not-be-named.

I have never understood the concept of being sorry, or feeling sorry, for someone else when they dont feel sorry for themselves.

^There are 1000s of good points about the UK, I know. But there are not 1000s, and not even a few, about Brexit.

If there is, please (and several of us have asked many times to no effect) please give us a list.^

Not sure many people are defending Brexit - the point is that we are here now. And Britain is still a great place to live.

And the NHS is generally great.

The UK is still, obviously, a far better place to live than many of the worst countries in the world. I would definitely not want to live in Russia, China, USA, Syria, UEA, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Myanmar, the CAR, Uganda, Colombia, Haiti, etc

However the UK is not a democracy. Only Belarus, of all the other countries in Europe, also uses "First Past The Post" to elect a government against the will of the majority.

All the other European countries are democracies where a government can only be elected by as majority of votes because they use proportional representation to elect their MPs..

I would rather live in a UK which is democratic and a member of the EU.

Those of us who still regret the decision made by the fraudulent referendum of 2016 are the patriots.

We love our country and are appalled by the damage which has been inflicted on our country buy the Leave Liars, led by Boris Johnson.

Aveline Fri 16-Jun-23 18:11:13

Have you read the previous posts?

varian Fri 16-Jun-23 19:01:37

Have any of the previous posts demonstrated conclusively that brexit has not inflicted damage on our country?

Poppyred Fri 16-Jun-23 19:29:36

I laugh out loud every time Varian comments about Brexit. It’s always the”fraudulent” referendum and now “the leave Liars” 😳

The ONLY information we received from the government of the day was a two sided leaflet (costing 10 million?plus) telling us all the benefits (ridiculous) of staying in.

varian Fri 16-Jun-23 20:16:50

These weren't lies. The benefits of staying in the EU were real, unlike the illusory benefits, which were wholely fraudulent, peddled by the Leave iars. Please don't te us you actually believed the lie on the side of the bus.

Aveline Fri 16-Jun-23 20:30:39

I can't believe you're still going on about this. Is there nothing else going on in the world to be getting worked up about?

Poppyred Fri 16-Jun-23 20:59:49

I didn’t even see the BUS - what a load of baloney

I’ve still got the vote leave leaflets that were full of lies.

No, there's nothing else going on in the world that's more important (apart from the damage caused by Brexit) than the divisions caused by 13 years of toxic Tory govt.

Don't get me wrong, we all worry about something else, whether its climate change, the lack of decent well paid employment, housing, the NHS and the cost of living. With a govt of a different nature our lives might have been different, maybe even better but almost certainly not worse.

Those of us born after WW2 had access to better health care and education than almost everyone who came before us. For many we had a better standard of living that that of our parents and grandparents but I don't think the same could be said for later generations.

Ukraine?

Katie59 Sat 17-Jun-23 07:37:47

To me the referendum proved what gullible fools most voters are (a few on GN too) led like lambs to the slaughter by Tory wolves.

Aveline Sat 17-Jun-23 07:38:27

Not exaggerating at all!!😂😂😂

I would agree that Leave voters were probably naive, and that the Boris lot lied, but fools] (idiots) is not the best choice of word to describe those on GN who clearly stated their reasoning.

Agreed,

This is hard to take, really. On the one hand, I am constantly accused of 'running UK down'- because I am concerned about what is happening to the economy, the NHS, the financial sector, food prices, and so much more.

And those who accuse me of such, say, move on, nothing to see- what has happened has happened, and what will be will be...

It is beyond bizarre.

When The Telegraph (aka The Torygraph) publishes articles that vindicate Mark Carney's predictions (report in 2018), predicting that Brexit will cause high inflation, higher prices, higher mortgages, weaker pound (and therefore much less purchasing power and debt repayments) and slow growth- then you know something serious is going on, and will take many many years to recover from.

But we should forget about it, move on... If you care, you don't forget and move on. I'd say that would be the most uncaring thing to do. As it is our ACs and our GCs that will pay the heavy price, we owe it to them to acknowldege there are very serious issues caused by Brexit, and try to elect people who will seriously address them and try to find solutions.

Well, I’m not too timid to declare I voted Leave and I’m certainly not a gullible fool 😡😡

My reasons are my business. Any issues I had with the EU had nothing to do with writings on a bus or anything coming out of Nigel Farage’s mouth. As for Lambs to the Slaughter…Don’t you think that’s a rather over dramatic, hackneyed cliche?

Most if us have far worse things to worry about these days than the state of fleurpepper’s pension. A tale of woe that’s not even worth the teeniest of tiny violins!

Next week is Glastonbury. The anniversary of that hilarious own goal by self satisfied gullible fools who were so certain the referendum would go their way they took themselves off for a weekend of fun rather than vote for their future. Why bother when you can blame the result on inferiors who made the effort to put an X on a piece of paper?

I posted earlier about people I worked amongst, struggling at the bottom of our society and worried about their cleaning/labouring/kitchen jobs being taken by EU workers prepared to work for less than their already low wages. Those witnessing their children’s classes being disrupted by the daily influx of bewildered children who spoke no English and were in many cases getting their first experience of education at 7 or 8 years old.

You’d have to have a very closed mind to call these people gullible fools.

But what can your constant complaints on here do about it? Nothing . It is what it is (an annoying and hackneyed phrase but never more true than here). You cannot change what has happened. None of us can. So stop the constant whinging and learn to live with it, as have the rest of us.

I have never understood the concept of being sorry, or feeling sorry, for someone else when they dont feel sorry for themselves.

Perhaps I need to rephrase this and directly ask fp.

Presumably, obviously I couldnt say for 100% sure, half the UK would still vote Leave. Or thereabouts. Lets say at a guess 25%.
And this is all 7 years after the event.

Do you still feel sorry for those Leave people?
A yes or no answer would suffice.
