Youngest life peer sworn in yesterday.
This still amazes me.
And why don't we know anything about her?

Also, does this mean she lives in Alderly Edge or was born there, or her family is from there?
I love Alderly Edge!

Also, know Peers are often (always?) "of" somewhere but how is this decided?

DiamondLily Wed 26-Jul-23 06:57:36

There is loads of speculation about her being either his daughter or one of his girlfriends, but with the super injunction in place, it'll probably never be known.

Ludicrous that she's in the HofL though - that whole place needs reform.🙄

FannyCornforth Wed 26-Jul-23 07:04:16

Charlotte Owen; Lara Lettice Johnson; Cassia Peaches Johnson

Whitewavemark2 Wed 26-Jul-23 07:04:22

Super injunctions cost £30000 and are brought in by the wealthy. I’ve tried looking at who might have a super injunction but it seems even that is secret.!

So we can’t even confirm whether she has one or not.

I think patience is called for - if there is anything dodgy about her peerage it will come out eventually.

I mean it might be entirely innocent - but honestly? - nothing Johnson does is innocent.

FannyCornforth Wed 26-Jul-23 07:05:46

Lara is 30, Cassia is 26

FannyCornforth Wed 26-Jul-23 07:11:24

I’m such a terrible gossip blush
She also has the same figure (legs especially) as Rachel Johnson

NotSpaghetti Wed 26-Jul-23 07:19:21

I suppose, Fanny regarding legs, Johnson might notice she has two...
And he would seem to be correct according to your evidence.

FannyCornforth Wed 26-Jul-23 07:41:18

NS Remember one of the Tories (or was it The MoS?) accusing Angela Rayner of ‘using’ her legs to distract male members of The Cabinet during PMQs?

Certainly, looking at the group photo, the same exhibitionist tendency...😄

She would have done her future career more good if she’d declined it - ‘on mature reflection’ of course.

Freya5 Wed 26-Jul-23 09:21:26

This is really a horrid thread. Casting aspersions on a young woman, done no wrong as far as I can see, oh given a life peerage, can remember Blair giving out, 300 was it, to increase Labour numbers in the House of Lords. Uhm. As for the increasingly nasty comments re her parentage, wonder if it was a young lefty peerage you'd all be so awful.

Aveline Wed 26-Jul-23 09:25:49

Just what I was thinking Freya5. Mind you I'd love to be Lady Aveline of Gransnet!

FannyCornforth Wed 26-Jul-23 09:26:53

Yes. I’d be just as gossipy and ‘awful’ if it was regarding a peerage given by a left leaning ex-PM with a record and character as dubious, duplicitous and downright immoral as that of Johnson

foxie48 Wed 26-Jul-23 09:43:46

Freya she might have "done no wrong" but what has she done to deserve being elevated to the Lords? That's the question and as she has been, albeit briefly, a political aid she will have been well aware of the controversy that would surround her appointment. fwiw Blair reformed the House of Lords in 1999, leaving 92 hereditary lords, most of whom would have been Tory stalwarts, he appointed 16 new life peers and for the FIRST time in it's history the House of Lords had a Labour majority. tbh I think many people would like to abolish it completely as it's become a dreadful example of political patronage instead of fulfilling it's functions, one of which is to hold the Govt accountable.

Parsley3 Wed 26-Jul-23 09:56:25

Well said, Fanny
Oh you lefties! You are awful but I like you and especially when you get put on the norty step.
Of course giving a peerage to this woman for no good reason is bound to spark gossip speculation. The way to halt idle tittle tattle is to tell us why Charlotte merits such an elevation when poor Nadine doesn't. Boris, you are a fickle rascal.

MaizieD Wed 26-Jul-23 10:12:46

Freya she might have "done no wrong" but what has she done to deserve being elevated to the Lords? That's the question ,,,

Precisely, foxie48

Intriguing that people who voted to leave the EU because of its 'unelected bureaucrats governing us' are perfectly happy to have unelected nonentities elevated to one of our legislative chambers of Parliament for no compelling reason.

Fleurpepper Wed 26-Jul-23 10:15:12

Indeed Maizie, and then call it 'Democracy'- just as they call a vote 'Democratic' when it was won by a tiny margin on what is now clearly proven to be lies and outside interference by Russian and other oligarchs. Bizarre does not even begin to describe it.

Susieq62 Wed 26-Jul-23 11:22:59

It stinks! What has she done to deserve this ? ( As if I didn’t know!!)
Surakarta should never have endorsed this person or any others Johnson put forward. He is a wimp.
The H of L should be an elected body, scaled down and representative of cross parties.
I am becoming more and more embarrassed by the Government which does not represent me!!

Susieq62 Wed 26-Jul-23 11:23:58

Sunak!!!

Lesley60 Wed 26-Jul-23 11:28:23

I Totally agree with maddyone it’s about time the House of Lords was abolished, all these people being paid a small fortune just to turn up and the elderly ones have a snooze
Just think what the country could use their money on.
It’s also my opinion that it’s disgusting that these titles are hereditary.

So if doing no wrong whilst working for the government is the criterion for being granted a peerage, that would qualify many of us too.

Where is mine?

Luckygirl3

I think we know why she is there.

Yes, can really only be one of 2 things!

She is his progeny or he had an affair and this is to keep it quiet - it's disgusting ... what have we come to? Never seen it so bad, they are all so corrupt and we are putting up with it!

Saetana Wed 26-Jul-23 11:44:21

There is no actual evidence a super injunction exists - its just Twitter speculation, take anything you read on there with a very large pinch of salt. Also no evidence that she has any connection to Boris Johnson, barring having worked for him for a few years. Frankly, most of the House of Lords are political appointees anyway.

Callistemon21 Wed 26-Jul-23 11:44:30

Or she knows too much and it is make sure she 🤐

Grantanow Wed 26-Jul-23 11:55:24

Given Johnson's wholly unsatisfactory period as PM I think all of his honours nominations should have been refused. Ditto those of Truss. With a bit of luck Starmer will reform the Lord's and we shal be shut of the lot of them. It should be an elected second Chamber like other countries have with a lower age limit of 50.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 26-Jul-23 12:22:44

Freya, when I was a senior leader the fact that someone had " done no wrong " was expected of all staff. It would not be sufficient to promote them.
