Charles & Camilla in Paris

They arrived in windy conditions in Paris today and Camilla looked great, although she had a "Marilyn Monroe moment" on the steps coming down from the plane. I thought the late Queen always had her hems weighted to prevent that.

But Charles - how baggy and scruffy his suit looked next to Macron. Charles is a slim man, like Macron, yet his suit did him no favours whereas Macron looked very smart.

They have got a full programme while they are in Paris. Sounded exhausting.

Mme. Macron is trying to disguise her age. Camilla doesn’t care.

I thought both ladies looked amazing. Especially the navy blue dresses on the first evening.

I couldn’t help wondering if Mme Macron was wearing a wig.

I often wondered that too!
What was the French opinion of her teacher/pupil romance with Emmanuel?

I thought that Camilla looked like a birthday cake next to the stylish Mdm Macron. Why does someone with so much to choose from and so much help, look so matronly.

I thought Madame Macron looks haggard.

I agree.
Camilla is far more appropriately dressed and has looked fabulous during this trip.

Frankly I don’t hold any respect for Madame Macron. A teacher who has an affair with and then marries her much younger student is not worthy of respect and in the UK would probably have been prosecuted, but certainly would have lost her job.

maddyone Fri 22-Sept-23 14:02:57

Camilla had an affair too, but at least her lover wasn’t a schoolboy!

Jaberwok Fri 22-Sept-23 14:23:19

Camilla doesn't need to try and hide her age and attempt to look younger than she is, she is married to a man who is the same age as she is, give a few months. I doubt she has any wish to constantly be watching her figure, exercising furiously in order to defy the passage of time and generally worrying about her appearance. Mdm Macron , however is married to a man who is 24 years her junior, which by any standards is a big age gap to try and overcome, and one that takes a disciplined regulated regime to stay looking good and young, which she does, in order not to look like her husbands mother. Camilla can dress how she pleases and feels comfortable, her husband does the same. I think that the King and Queen look just fine, both befitting their age. After all they're not Pop Stars, aging or otherwise and certainly not Kardashian celebrities.

Actually, no where in Europe do people dress stylishly any more if we are to go by the standards that pertained when we were young.

King Charles would do well to change his tailor - Saville Row must still have men who can make suits that fit their customers.

I can't find the pictures you are obviously all looking at, but on the ones I can find on YouTube Charles hair looks anything but long.

I am surprised to see you all referring to Mme Macron - as far as I know she and the president are not married, and I very much doubt if they have allowed themselves to be pressurized into marriage after living together openly for years as lots do these days, that she would have consented to use his surname, She has always struck me as extremely modern in her views.

Not sure that the Macrons private life, then or now is any of our business. For certain it would have been very frowned upon here, but France views these matters differently and its not for us to condone or condemn.

The Macron's were married on 20th October 2007 in Le Touquet.

Mamie Fri 22-Sept-23 14:39:33

Aargh rogue apostrophe. 😮

I wonder grandtanteJE65 if you are getting confused with François Hollande?

Is it just me who can’t think of Charles as King Charles? And as for Camilla…. She doesn’t deserve to be called queen.

Yes, it is just you.

I have no problem thinking of Charles as King, and seeing as Camilla is his wife, then of course she is his Queen, as was Elizabeth (the Queen Mother), Mary, Alexandra…. of their respective spouses of course, not Charles!

Kate1949 Fri 22-Sept-23 15:30:05

No it's not just you Buttonjugs.

I suspect Madame Macron hasn't downed as many gins and smoked as many fags as Camilla, which isn't a criticism.
There are many older French women especially the petit
ones who watch their weight.

PamQS Fri 22-Sept-23 15:48:46

I think Brigitte Macron is very glamorous, and probably always has been. She has a good head of hair and a pretty face. I don’t think Camilla needs to compete with her - as long as she’s polite and appreciative, she’ll go down well with her hosts!

What an awful thing to say. What is it if it isn’t a criticism?

French chic versus British frump.
They both look as if they have been in the back of the wardrobe for "The wedding outfits", they've had in mothballs for the past ten years.
Really good ambassadors for Britain keeping abreast of what is happening in the world.

Camilla looked like mother of the bride I thought, it was the colour. She was going to a wedding, Mme Macron was going to a business meeting. I liked the anchor buttons on Mme Macron’s suit jacket, very smart.

Yes, I agree, a bit too weddingy, though she does look nice. I do admire Mme Macron, always well dressed and groomed.

Jaberwok Fri 22-Sept-23 16:25:07

Camilla looked fantastic in that dusky pink outfit, and Charles looked fine. Why some people have to make such unpleasant comments is beyond me. Its not a competition or a fashion parade, so why does what any of them is wearing matter so much? How you look and what you wear isn't the be all and end all of a successful tour. Conversations, attitude, common courtesy are all far more important than whose clothes are the most glamorous or fashionable, which is quite frankly unimportant and a shallow attitude.

Casdon Fri 22-Sept-23 16:48:27

But you’re also displaying a shallow attitude too (to use your own words, not mine) when you say that Camilla ‘looked fantastic in that dusky pink outfit’ Jaberwok!

Babsbada Fri 22-Sept-23 16:49:45

Mme Macron absolutely fabulous. Great outfits, great hair and great smile. Looks great for any age let alone 70!

sodapop Fri 22-Sept-23 17:09:25

Agree Calendargirl King Charles he is with his wife Queen Camilla. I have to say I think Camilla has supported Charles extremely well and enabled him to cope with his new role.
