Charles & Camilla in Paris

They arrived in windy conditions in Paris today and Camilla looked great, although she had a "Marilyn Monroe moment" on the steps coming down from the plane. I thought the late Queen always had her hems weighted to prevent that.

But Charles - how baggy and scruffy his suit looked next to Macron. Charles is a slim man, like Macron, yet his suit did him no favours whereas Macron looked very smart.

They have got a full programme while they are in Paris. Sounded exhausting.

so would I

mabon1 Fri 22-Sept-23 17:15:23

Quite so, she looked a real frump, for me she always does look frumpish.

mabon1 Fri 22-Sept-23 17:17:16

Camilla wears loads of make-up.

Jaberwok Fri 22-Sept-23 17:17:50

No I'm not. I did think Camilla looked nice as did Mdm Macron but I wasn't judging either of these ladies by their outfits as others on here clearly were. Defining one as frumpy, the other chic, the colour, the fit, the trousers, and so on, making them either good or bad people simply by what they were wearing. I wasn't doing that.

They looked what they are - English, mainly country, people, and the Macrons, city style. They all had made an effort to look their best, and to get on. Full marks from me.

That’s a good description.

Well said.

I liked the dark green animal print dress that Camilla wore when they said goodbye to the Macrons. The pink outfit not so much.

Royal dress style has always erred on the frumpy side.

I suspect Madame Macron hasn't downed as many gins and smoked as many fags as Camilla, which isn't a criticism.
There are many older French women especially the petit
ones who watch their weight.

I bet Camilla's great fun, though!

Jaberwok Fri 22-Sept-23 18:01:34

Yes I absolutely agree sandelf and others and I think that's probably what I was trying to say. I wouldn't say the RF are frumpy, but I agree they do err in the side of caution, particularly the older members! I too bet Camilla is great fun! Do you remember her winking at the Press when President Trump .came for that visit? Hilarious. I echo, Full marks to all of them.

I agree with you Jaberwok, I think the pink outfit looked lovely on Camilla. The colour suited her, and the outfit fitted her to perfection.

Jaberwok Fri 22-Sept-23 18:10:58

Thank you maddyone.

You might think pale pink with a wide floaty skirt was the ideal outfit, but had anyone considered she was going to have to come down all those steps holding her hair, hat and skirt?
A straight skirt suit or trousers would have been much more practical for the poor woman even the blue Churchill boiler suit.
Also who can deny that clothes say a lot about us and if any of us were to go on intervue, let alone the world's press we would make sure we were dressed to impress. She needs someone else to advise.

I agree too, but that’s because I think she looked lovely.
In the unlikely even that I met Queen Camilla (as my DGD did), I’d be happy to say so.

Jaberwok Fri 22-Sept-23 18:58:40

Well, we can all agree to differ. Yes the wind was a difficulty,,the late Queen apparently had weights sewn into the hem of her skirts to avoid this problem. I expect this will be taken care of in future, but nevertheless I think implying Chic, good Dowdy(?) bad, is both shallow in attitude and unkind.

The four of them looked fine, imho. They each have their own distinct style and are presumably happy and comfortable with it. The main thing is that the visit went well, and it seems it did. It looked as though the royals and the Macrons got on well, and a little diplomacy can go a long way on the world stage.

Charles is never going to look like a dapper Frenchman and Macron is never going to look like a British gentleman.
Thank goodness

Spot on, Maggiemaybe
Vive la difference and bon chance to the Entente Cordiale.

Always thought Charles was a dapper dresser, especially in a kilt and cosy socks. He wears a suit very well. Camilla is probably happier in country clothes, but thought she glowed in her sapphires and blue gown.

Nicksmrs46 Fri 22-Sept-23 23:48:29

Thought Madame Macron looked a bit like a window model ! the tailored suit/dress jacket didn’t sit right , the waist was bunched up and the sleeves a bit short and not flattering for a lady of her years !!
Was good to see Camilla in a bright colour , taking a leaf from the late Queen’s book , wear a bright colour to stand out !

Marg75 Sat 23-Sept-23 11:17:31

Being near Camilla's age, I do like her style and the colours but I must admit I did not like the pink outfit, it was, to me, totally out of place on that day and occasion. She looked to be going to a wedding as perhaps 'Mother of the Bride'.

Shantygirly Sat 23-Sept-23 11:41:01

I think Mme Macron looks like an aged Barbie doll! Camilla looks fine but the colour more suited to Spring/Summer than Autumn.

Marg75 Sat 23-Sept-23 11:54:32

Shantygirly Exactly!

Look at the grandeur of the palace what have that family done to deserve all that wealth born into it that’s all. Monarchy a waste of space and money.

Callistemon21 Sat 23-Sept-23 20:12:39

😂😂😂
Are they waiting for a gong?
They are Not My Thing at all.

It doesn't belong to the Royal Family.
It's the place where foreign Heads of State, dignitaries and members of the public are invited by our Head of State.

Rather like the places where other Heads of State entertain guests.

Did you see Versailles where the Macrons entertained Charles?
