Islamaphobia is getting out of control

We have Braverman and Anderson stirring up the most awful Islamaphobia.

I don’t think that we have ever had British MPs saying such racist and hateful rhetoric since Mosely. They are being backed by the worst sort of editorship. It is so redolent of the 20s and 30s.

Jewish and Christian leaders are calling for it to stop, as well as Tories who see this as a disaster for their party, as it will never ever end well.

Rory Stewart

This idea that “London is in the grip of Islamists” is deluded and it’s awful - an obsession that thrives among a bizarre and dangerous coalition. No conservative MP should ever be spouting this stuff.

Free speech anyone?

I agree with free speech.

I also agree that citizens of the U.K. should be able to go about their daily lives, without having roads blocked (by anyone) which hinders their journey into work, hospital or any other appointment.

Any large protest march can be intimidating to others.

You don't live in London do you Glorianny? Perhaps you should campaign for the protestors to gather near your home area in their thousands to boost your local economy. Does it really have to be London every time, thousands and thousands of marching people will attract media coverage wherever it happens? Coaches and trains run in areas outside London, moving the protests to other areas might stimulate more public transport in those vicinities.

I don't. I have.
Do you Rosie51
You might have noticed there is a large building there on the river Thames. It is where our government meets to make laws. If that process is ever devolved to the regions and we get a similar place I'll be delighted to welcome marchers.
Meantime I see no reason why an area largely composed of the empty houses of the very rich, hotels and museums shouldn't have marchers walk through.
And actually they wouldn't attract media attention in the regions because media coverage in those regions has been stripped to the bare minimum.

Do you really have to answer in such condescending tones? You have campaigned for these protests to take place near you despite you say there wouldn't be media attention? You'd like the disruption just for disruption's sake, how odd.
The lives of everyday Londoners being so frequently disrupted by these protests of whatever cause really doesn't count for anything with you does it? Absolutely a case of "I'm alright Jack"

I wish the media channels would show Lee interview fully and not stop at khan who few weeks ago was slating white ppl or burning trump nothing was said about that like or not the man. You all jumping on the bandwagon and Lee gets my support he says whatever else is saying. Instead of being a Hama follower be a British follower and support our country these marches are stopped in every country but ours MPs are having bodyguards our country is changing in front of our very eyes and not in a good way. I’m a sheep 🐑

I didn't say I'd campaigned for protests to take place near me.
I didn't say I like disruption for disruption's sake. I said the area is not one composed of small businesses and what is there would not suffer major disruption.

I notice you didn't answer about living in London. So I take it you don't and the disruption you imagine is just that, imaginary.
But if you think there are substantial numbers of Londoners in central London on a Saturday you know very little about London.

I’m clearly not a sheep, nor am I a Hamas follower (whatever that means). Anyone of us can look up the entire speech, it makes no difference, he shouldn’t have send what he did about Khan in any context! He isn’t saying what “the rest of us” are thinking or saying!

Iam64 Mon 26-Feb-24 13:42:55

Nannashirl z, Anderson may speak for you but he does not speak for me, or the majority of posters here. He’s an ignorant racist bigot

Ah, some misunderstandings here. I took your "I don't. I have" to be addressing my first two points ie you don't live in London, you have campaigned for protests to be relocated to your area. I didn't understand that "do you" was asking if I live in London. As I have frequently said I live in London, have done all my life, I thought you were asking if I campaign to get the protests moved elsewhere. I would think my knowledge of London and the reality of these disruptions will be rather more extensive and current than yours. I've suffered the disruptions in person not viewed them on a TV screen.

Iam64 Mon 26-Feb-24 13:48:51

I have first had knowledge of the grooming scandals reflected in the Three Girls drama.
The neglect of children in our CJS and within many agencies is more significant in Rochdale and nearby towns, than the ethnicity of the abusers.
Girls of 11, many from neglectful or abusive backgrounds were widely seen by some as making life style choices. That’s the major scandal. My experience was the difficulty engaging these children or their parents/carers was key in preventing prosecution for so long rather than fear of being accused of racism

Rosie51 Mon 26-Feb-24 13:51:06

Also for Glorianny I am talking about all the disruptive protests London endures not just the pro Palestine marches.

I have seen the whole interview. What difference would it make? Anderson doesn't speak for me.

What do you mean about being a British follower? Sadiq Khan was born in Tooting, so is British.

Joseann Mon 26-Feb-24 13:58:06

But if you think there are substantial numbers of Londoners in central London on a Saturday you know very little about London.
Until very recently I was a zone 4 London inhabitant. DH and I both worked in Zones 2 and 3.
Of course we went into Central London, Zone 1, most weekends to meet up with friends, to shop, to go to shows, to eat in restaurants etc. That's what every Londoner I know does. For our kids Central London was their playground, and they would hop up there on the Central Line every Saturday and Sunday. We would check first for both engineering works and protests in London on a regular basis because both caused disruption to plans.

Iam64 Mon 26-Feb-24 14:02:43

Joseann, don’t disagree with the oracle

Joseann Mon 26-Feb-24 14:23:02

For those who don't know the geography, this is Oxford Circus on the Central Line, you can see the underground symbol. How am I supposed to get my train home from shopping in Liberty's with this rabble blocking my passage in broad daylight on a Saturday?

Joseann Mon 26-Feb-24 14:23:20

Oops

Rosie51 Mon 26-Feb-24 14:28:02

Joseann you are surely mistaken, the protestors march through areas of museums, hotels and unoccupied foreign owned houses, Glorianny knows these things.

I am pretty sure 99% of us here to like to see the end of all current wars, would support any peaceful protests and would believe our MPs, whatever their political allegiance and personal beliefs, should not make personal tweets or statements which the know will inflame hatred towards any specific groups of people.

We might have slightly different beliefs to each other, but I’ve not seen any one poster here supporting violence or terrorism. As I’m not really religious at all maybe it’s easier for me to remain slightly more neutral than others?

👍

No, I think you're on the right track with that post, Cossy.

Well presumably you only know a certain number of Londoners. In fact the majority of the population of London do not live in the zones you have mentioned but are in outer London. As I said substantial numbers of Londoners are not in that area. You and your children (how old are they?) might have been. When my sons lived in London they seldom visited the centre because of cost, and they were working.

I don't care what religion they are, they disrupt.

Go and shout at Speaker's Corner.

Anyone would think that you have just discovered that large scale protests can by noisy and disruptive. But they've been going on for decades... with varying degrees of sympathy from the general public.

You couldn't fit them all in Speakers' Corner...

You can think what you like but it doesn't mean you'd be correct.

OMG how dare they protest about war crimes and stop you shopping in Liberties!!!!

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 26-Feb-24 14:40:30

You don’t seem very clued up about London zoning Glorianny.

Don’t you realise the reference to shopping at Liberty (singular btw) was tongue in cheek?

newnanny Mon 26-Feb-24 14:40:53

I agree it was wrong for Met police to stand by and do nothing when that rivers to seas slogan was beamed onto the tower. I also think it's wrong for any protestors to climb on was memorials. I get really furious when the Met police just stand and watch. They should be arresting those responsible. It's a sad day when the speaker of the house of commons is so worried about protesters outside harming MP's he goes against the advice of the chief clerk who's job is to advice on constitutional correctness. We can't have mobs of protesters undermining our democracy. I think mobs of protesters whatever they are protesting about are too much. Instead they should have a token protest with just maybe 100 people with the placards and if they make a nuisance of themselves by climbing war memorials or blocking traffic they should be arrested.

I really do not give a damn who is marching or for what reason.

1,000’s of people marching through our capital city, blocking roads, along with Saturday nights blocking of Tower Bridge and setting off flares, is not something I want to be anywhere near. Whether it’s just DH and AC or any of the GC.

There has been a pro-Palestinian march in London every Saturday since Hamas’s deplorable actions on 7/10 and the subsequent retaliatory attacks by Israel.

How about a fraction of empathy/compassion for those living and/or working near these routes, shops and hospitality are no doubt losing money.

Have you any evidence for any of those accusations?
I'll counter you with this. Thousands of people descending on London at the weekend is in fact boosting the economy. Since Covid London has lost a substantial amount of trade. If you wanted a cheap hotel room weekends were best because weekdays were taken up by working Londoners who've moved out of town. The marchers buy coffees and eat lunches. Some of them stay the night. It is in fact an economic driver. There are also huge numbers of coaches and trains involved and service stations en route.

Thousands of people descending on London at the weekend is in fact boosting the economy
😂

This from someone who was so against the Coronation!
Visit England saying the overall boon in England alone from the Coronation will be £1.2 billion 7 May 2023

Best keep protesting, it boosts the economy.
Not sure how, as it prevents many others going about their lawful business.
Do you have some figures please, Glorianny?
