^But if you think there are substantial numbers of Londoners in central London on a Saturday you know very little about London^.
Until very recently I was a zone 4 London inhabitant. DH and I both worked in Zones 2 and 3.
Of course we went into Central London, Zone 1, most weekends to meet up with friends, to shop, to go to shows, to eat in restaurants etc. That's what every Londoner I know does. For our kids Central London was their playground, and they would hop up there on the Central Line every Saturday and Sunday. We would check first for both engineering works and protests in London on a regular basis because both caused disruption to plans.
Well presumably you only know a certain number of Londoners. In fact the majority of the population of London do not live in the zones you have mentioned but are in outer London. As I said substantial numbers of Londoners are not in that area. You and your children (how old are they?) might have been. When my sons lived in London they seldom visited the centre because of cost, and they were working.
