Thread about MP’s making Islamophobia comments does take discussion away from the hideous antisemitism in this country,
Is there any reason why there can't be discussions about both?
We have Braverman and Anderson stirring up the most awful Islamaphobia.
I don’t think that we have ever had British MPs saying such racist and hateful rhetoric since Mosely. They are being backed by the worst sort of editorship. It is so redolent of the 20s and 30s.
Jewish and Christian leaders are calling for it to stop, as well as Tories who see this as a disaster for their party, as it will never ever end well.
Rory Stewart
This idea that “London is in the grip of Islamists” is deluded and it’s awful - an obsession that thrives among a bizarre and dangerous coalition. No conservative MP should ever be spouting this stuff.

Ah, now with that I have to disagree. Ever sat on a London tube with Hammers' supporters down one side of the carriage and Spurs down the other. They don't all chant and lob missiles. In fact they often offer this granny a seat.

Yeah, spot on, I did wonder why this thread had been started.
Because at least two current MPs have made blatantly anti-Muslim statements - one of them has now been suspended from his party. That's serious and legitimate news.
The marchers are just as likely to eat in a restaurant, go shopping or visit a museum as any other person in London. Some may even stay overnight and fill up hotels.
So going on a protest is just part of a nice weekend in London?
So if protestors are able to think about things other than protesting, why can't posters?
And the disruption is no worse than any football crowd.
Would you like to start a thread? I remember when they stopped the traffic in Central London.
Why though, if Labour isn’t in thrall to Muslims, did Starmer remove his poppy before meeting Muslim voters?

Why though, if Labour isn’t in thrall to Muslims, did Starmer remove his poppy before meeting Muslim voters?
Dunno! Presumably it was red - he should have just written "Vote Labour" across it.
Talk about distracting from the point of the thread!

Why though, if Labour isn’t in thrall to Muslims, did Starmer remove his poppy before meeting Muslim voters?
Well, I have no idea why he did that.
There were whole units of soldiers, millions of men, who were Muslims and fought with the Allies in WW2.

It was disrespectful to their memory to remove the poppy,.

The LP candidate for the Rochdale by election made anti-semitic comments as did others, it happens all the time and Starmer took action, just as Sunak did in the case of Lee Anderson.
Yet somehow the OP glibly says that Islmaphobia is getting out of control.
I would say that anti-semitism in this country is getting out of control!

Glorianny In fact the majority of the population of London do not live in the zones you have mentioned but are in outer London. The actual number depends on how you're classifying inner and outer London. Newham for example doesn't count inner London for statuary purposes but does for statistical purposes. There is a substantial population in zones 1-4, we are not irrelevant.
You were the one claiming where the protestors were marching which is patently wrong. Because your sons didn't go into central London when they lived there must mean no Londoners do is a rather huge assumption. Unable to admit you're wrong you resort to posts like Sorry if I didn't get the humour I'm afraid I find it very difficult to understand how anyone can joke about the awful situation in Gaza and the dreadful Islamophobia which is gripping this country. Nobody is joking about the awful situation in Gaza, it's dishonest and distasteful to say they are.
I think the humour being found is at the inaccurate statements you are making about boosts to the economy, location of marches and that Londoners are not disrupted on a frequent basis. The thread has widened out to include all protestor disruption across London.Perhaps the marchers shop at Liberty's as well.
Although no they couldn't possibly could they? They're all rampant Muslims or disruptive elements aren't they?
Honestly I really think GN has no idea about how most people think and behave. The marchers are just as likely to eat in a restaurant, go shopping or visit a museum as any other person in London. Some may even stay overnight and fill up hotels.
Widen all you want I don't have to go with it.
I'm sticking to the Islamophobia present in the comments. Including the inaccurate assertion the marchers wear masks most don't. And any that do can be asked to remove them.
And the disruption is no worse than any football crowd.
Your comments are becoming more and more delusional. Who has said anything about whether or not the marchers will go and shop at Liberty's or indeed any other shops? Or called them rampant Muslims? You really must stop inventing things to argue against.
You stated your sons when they lived and worked in London didn't go to central London on the weekend because it was too expensive. Now suddenly the marchers comprise people who can afford London hotel prices too! A London Premier Inn lowest priced room for tonight, prepaid no refunds is £120.
And the disruption is no worse than any football crowd. Oh I think it is, and I've attended many a Premiership football match in London. On Saturday 17th February 1500 police officers were deployed for the march, no football crowd ever has that level of policing.
Gloriannywhere were you when one million Biafran children died with the approval of Harold Wilson? Did you march? Well I did and not one life did I save.

It would be easy enough to start a thread about the Rochdale candidate. I'm not aware that GN limits threads about legitimate topics.
My personal opinion is that hatred is increasing - whether it be anti-semitic or anti-Muslim. In my opinion, both are appalling, but this particular thread is about anti-Muslim hatred (as my MP likes to call Islamophobia). It's possible for both to be increasing.

Does anybody know that he removed it deliberately? Maybe it fell off.
Or called them rampant Muslims?
That is really offensive to any Muslims on here.
If it was meant as a joke it is a sick one.

Perhaps it was on his overcoat, not on his jacket, then he took his overcoat off 🤔

I don't care what religion they are, they disrupt.
Go and shout at Speaker's Corner.
Not if you are of the Christian faith you can't. Arrested for carrying a Bible, singing hymns. Always double standards. Hatun Tash comes to mind.
Oh goodness.
It almost makes me want to go there and read selected Biblical texts very loudly!!
Perhaps some of them do. Those at Waterloo today might stop you shopping.
Eh? Sorry? Waterloo today? Nothing's happening there.
At least my posts are about real personal experiences at various locations in London.

Why are all the marchers poor? Even if they are there are hostel rooms in London for £50-£60. Rooms in reasonable small hotels for around £90.
There's a photo of a football crowd causing more disruption.

The Metro is reporting that there was a minor battle of Waterloo on Saturday between rival football fans in the booking hall of Waterloo Station.
Major difference between this and the 1,000’s on the pro-Palestinian marches is that the police intervened immediately and the football fans were dispersed…
