Islamaphobia is getting out of control

We have Braverman and Anderson stirring up the most awful Islamaphobia.

I don’t think that we have ever had British MPs saying such racist and hateful rhetoric since Mosely. They are being backed by the worst sort of editorship. It is so redolent of the 20s and 30s.

Jewish and Christian leaders are calling for it to stop, as well as Tories who see this as a disaster for their party, as it will never ever end well.

Rory Stewart

This idea that “London is in the grip of Islamists” is deluded and it’s awful - an obsession that thrives among a bizarre and dangerous coalition. No conservative MP should ever be spouting this stuff.

Perhaps some of them do. Those at Waterloo today might stop you shopping.
Eh? Sorry? Waterloo today? Nothing's happening there.
At least my posts are about real personal experiences at various locations in London.

Ignore the photo it doesn't fit does it

You stated football fans at Waterloo today caused problems. There has been no incident today. On Saturday there was some disorder.

metro.co.uk/2024/02/26/battle-waterloo-breaks-rival-football-fans-huge-station-fight-20347136/

Video shows how dozens of fans were jostling in front of the ticket machines, some trying to land punches on one another, while police in high vis jackets lined up to try and calm things down.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: ‘At around 9pm on February 24, British Transport Police officers on patrol at Waterloo railway station, alongside officers from the Metropolitan Police, responded to disorder between football fans.

‘The situation was de-escalated and no arrests were made.’

He added that the station’s operation was not disrupted with the situation not leading to train delays. so not quite the same level of disruption eh?

The photo you put up is not of Waterloo station, where did you find it, perhaps you could give the link so we can verify it for ourselves?

Rosie51 Mon 26-Feb-24 16:52:18

Sorry GrannyGravy I hadn't refreshed so didn't see you'd already quoted the Metro.

My iPad doesn’t want to do a reverse image search hopefully a poster on here can?

Joseann Mon 26-Feb-24 17:03:17

They're Scottish fans. Probably at the Euros.
Not today, not on Saturday.

Glorianny sorry, you won't get a London Blue Badge Guide nomination. (Joke!)

It is anti semitism I am seeing particularly by those who think they are the good guys.

Me too.
IMO there’s a lot of latent anti-semitism in the U.K., which has found an ‘acceptable’ outlet in the current crisis.

Well done Joseann, the image was too small but I thought it looked like some were wearing Scottish colours. I managed my first ever reverse image search.

I don't care what religion they are, they disrupt.

Go and shout at Speaker's Corner.

Not if you are of the Christian faith you can't. Arrested for carrying a Bible, singing hymns. Always double standards. Hatun Tash comes to mind.

Only if you happen to be in an exclusion zone near an abortion clinic.

Callistemon21 Mon 26-Feb-24 17:20:14

And the disruption is no worse than any football crowd.
Ah, now with that I have to disagree. Ever sat on a London tube with Hammers' supporters down one side of the carriage and Spurs down the other. They don't all chant and lob missiles. In fact they often offer this granny a seat.

Perhaps some of them do. Those at Waterloo today wouldn't or this crowd might stop you shopping

Yes, I did a search (you live and learn!)
Scotland fans in June 2021 before the delayed 2020 Euros.

They just look excited!

Thousands of Scottish fans headed to Leicester Square where they wore their country’s shirts, kilts, waved flags and set off blue smoke bombs while chanting, singing and playing the bagpipes.

Of course it wasn't Waterloo, sorry if it gave that impression it was England and Scotland football fans in central London outside the shops. I wonder which the shopkeepers prefer football fans or marchers?

You made a statement that's factually incorrect with no links to any source. Nothing happened today at Waterloo station and the disruption on Saturday was dozens of fans who thankfully didn't cause any delay or disruption to the trains. Did you bother to read the link I provided? I missed where you said it was Scottish and English fans which would have immediately confirmed it wasn't a recent happening.
I'm sure you'd be able to tell the shopkeepers which group they prefer, you seem to like telling Londoners how things are.

Sorry I omitted a comma after Waterloo.
I just said football fans I didn't realise clear delineation was required.
Does it matter how recent it was? Does disruption diminish after time has passed?

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 26-Feb-24 18:12:04

sorry if it gave that impression

FFS Glorianny, know when to give up.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 26-Feb-24 18:22:17

Glorianny as you ask (demand) exact sources and evidence to back up what others post, you really cannot be surprised when others expect the same from you.

Your post and the accompanying photo, were deliberately misleading in order to further your argument

Rosie51 Mon 26-Feb-24 18:22:28

Glorianny Sorry I omitted a comma after Waterloo.

That makes even less sense! So you meant to write "Those at Waterloo, today wouldn't or this crowd might stop you shopping"? What on earth does 'today' reference? Instead of doubling down it might be better to admit you dived in without too much checking.

No of course disruption doesn't diminish after time has passed. Those who've lives have been disrupted by various protests haven't had that disruption to medical appointments and more magicked away by the passing of time. The people who missed the funeral of a loved one when the Dartford bridge was closed didn't get to do a rerun several days later. The man whose path to his dying father in hospital was blocked didn't get to touch his live father one more time. Never mind, it's all in a good cause.

Glorianny Mon 26-Feb-24 18:31:42

OMG I've frequently asked for sources and been ignored.
I've dodged on and off here today whilst doing other things. I have neither the time nor am I particularly interested in misleading anyone. I simply think that the Islamophobic comments about the marchers need some response.
And football crowds do disrupt.
Quite why marchers are viewed as more disruptive I don't know.

So sorry again

These MPs (and the despicable rags like the Daily Mail) are fomenting fear among the type of people who voted Brexit, in time for the election. They’ll do anything to try and hold on to power. One could just as easily say that the Zionists have control of the government - but that would be anti semitic wouldn’t it?! To call the people protesting about the slaughter in Gaza ‘Islamist mobs’ is deeply offensive in several ways, given the very broad cross section of the population who take part. 60% of hate crimes against Muslims are against women, so a good dose of misogyny going on too., and any criticism of Israeli government policy or politicians is deemed antisemitic. The right wing rhetoric coming from within our government is frankly terrifying, and seeing it echoing round Europe and America adds to my fears for the world.

Nice try. What happened at Waterloo TODAY as I can't find anything reported? Saturday's scuffle at Waterloo was quickly resolved by British Transport Police. No disruption to trains at all.

I do find it extraordinary that football fans can push a policeman over but no one is arrested.

When, where, link please? If it happened I imagine it could be the policeman was trying to de-escalate the situation, rather like police don't tend to arrest many at the protests, even when offences are being committed. I notice you're avoiding telling us what happened at Waterloo today. Could that be because you have got it wrong and won't admit it?

Callistemon21 Mon 26-Feb-24 19:23:06

All these strawman arguments are really interesting.

Who was playing and who won on Saturday?
