Last night, having nothing better to do, I watched Nige on Utube. He is quite savvy, creepy though he may be. He said the British election was already lost, Starmer will be returned as PM and the Labour Party will be on the nose after 5 years in power which is when the Reform a party will step in with an overwhelming majority. I actually think he might be right. He also thinks Trump will get in even with a guilty verdict and he wouldn’t say if he had been offered a post if and when he did. So Donald, his best mate, probably has something to offer there. Interesting.

A bit irrelevant I know but why do some GNers insist on referring to pearl clutchers. I doubt that many of us wear pearls (unless they are ginormous)

Surely pearls were worn by our mothers or grandmothers? The proverbial twinset and....

Because it's a saying to describe a certain kind of behaviour - nothing to do with wearing pearls.

I know that - but it's still outdated IMO. Surely getting knickers would be more apt.

Many idioms are outdated and their original meanings have been lost.

Mamie Fri 31-May-24 15:10:58

I am quite intrigued by how one could get one's knickers in a twist whilst clutching one's pearls. 🤔
Reminds me of someone I worked with who told us we had to keep our noses to the grindstone, our shoulders to the wheel and our ears to the ground. Not being a contortionist I am afraid I couldn't oblige. 😂

Sago Fri 31-May-24 15:47:24

I wear pearls as they go with everything and as they were my late MIL’s it feels good, she was a nice lady.
I don’t however clutch them.
I will put my head above the parapet and as that NF is the voice of common sense.
Doing something about immigration is not racist, it’s about managing our country with little resource.
It’s all well and good Starmer banging on about VAT on private school fees and what it would pay for, how much is it costing us feeding, clothing, educating and homing so many immigrants.
A lot of whom despise us.

DiamondLily Fri 31-May-24 15:49:44

Well, to a lot of people, Farage is the constantly losing joke we enjoy.

I certainly don’t clutch the pearls I don’t own, or get my knickers in any sort of twist lol 😉

Farage is an irrelevance in the great scheme of things.

I agree with the last sentence, which is why I don't understand why he gets so much attention and people take any notice of what he says.

It's not difficult to pick up on a handful of issues which people constantly moan about and then agree with them and say you'll do something about the issues if you were elected. Farage does that all the time and goes on and on and on and on about the same issues. He's not going to be in power, so he'll never have to do anything about the issues. He just carries on stirring.

Curtaintwitcher Fri 31-May-24 15:54:42

His relationships haven't lasted long. I find that concerning. Does he get bored with people or does he find their personal habits difficult to deal with?

Cossy Fri 31-May-24 15:56:24

I cant believe how irate people get when talking about NF. You all got to vote for Brexit and the remainers lost. Its up to you to vote and change things. He must be good because he helped to get the Brexit vote and I would vote for Brexit again and I dont care who that upsets and how many of you clutch their pearls when they read this. My life is very fulfilled so I dont get my knickers in a twist like a lot of you lot do.

😂😂😂😂😂😂 My life is also fulfilled, it’s quite normal to dislike liars and cheats, Farage, Johnson etc. Brexit was based on misinformation and at times lies and has not benefitted us one jot. My knickers are fine thank you. grin

From the sounds of your message you despise immigrants just as much as you claim they despise us!

But Sago Farage will never do anything about immigration. He doesn't do anything about anything. He just gets some kind of pleasure about creating division. I wonder if he has some kind of narcissistic personality disorder - or if he just fakes his constant victimhood for personal gain.

LucyV1961 Fri 31-May-24 16:01:52

Hello, is anybody watching Coronation Street at the moment?I did not see this twist coming, the person who murdered Lauren I honestly thought that she might still be alive somewhere.

Equally, doing something about immigration (or claiming you will) can be racist. Farage quite obviously is racist, as are some of the comments on GN.

Cossy Fri 31-May-24 16:05:00

Poor old Nigel or as the song goes “Nigel just needs that helping hand”. I’ll happily help him to go across the pond!

And if young Nigel says he’s happy, he must be happy in his world.

I always thought it was a " partridge in a pear tree"...

Agreed. Open Britain have today put out a letter for people to sign & submit, complaining to the BBC about his appearance on last night’s Question Time. He’s not a candidate for any party and, as such, the BBC should not be giving him air time. He completely took over the programme last night. Horrible little man!

Galaxy Fri 31-May-24 16:46:22

I think he is probably fairly close to the mark in his predictions relating to trump and reform.

valdali Fri 31-May-24 16:53:29

Reform have a candidate in my constituency. He has been in the UK since 2016. (He is from Cyprus). Granted he probably didn't arrive in a small boat, I still find it odd, given the voters they presumably hope to appeal to, that they didn't stand someone who was born in the UK.

Farage thinks Trump will be elected even with a guilty verdict. Hypothetically, does he think it's a good thing that a convicted criminal is president of the USA? What does that say about his respect for Law & Order?

Politics today makes the Monster Raving Looney Party look boringly sane.

Hang on a minute, Open Britain (who are supposed to work for democracy) is trying to ban someone from speaking on TV?

You say he is not a candidate for any party which is irrelevant and applies to most panellists on QT including the Bishop and Piers Morgan. We had to listen to the Bishop and Wes Streeting giving long rambles, so Farage certainly didn't take over the programme. Your post is full of bias and inaccuracies.

Just because you don't like him or agree with him doesn't mean he should be banned from joining in the debate. Presumably you just want to listen to people you agree with.

Why are we not seeing more of the actual candidates though, or Richard Tice? Farage is now on TV so often that it’s predictable what he’s going to say, and voters needs to hear a wider viewpoint of what Reform’s plans are.

vegansrock Fri 31-May-24 17:36:06

On a shallow note, does anyone think NF and Richard Tice have both been on a sunbed ? They both have fake looking tans. Plus, why doesn’t he get his teeth fixed?

I think he is probably fairly close to the mark in his predictions relating to trump and reform.

Even I could make certain predictions and be absolutely accurate. It really wouldn't be difficult if I cherry picked a handful of issues. That wouldn't mean that I'm right about everything - or even nearly everything. It also wouldn't mean that the welfare of the country would be safe in my hands. All it would mean is that I am capable of choosing my issues carefully, as many people would be, if put in that situation.

Wyllow3 Fri 31-May-24 18:27:08

Good comment.

I think he prefers to pontificate instead of doing the hard work involved in being a constituency MP and having to help people as well as the bigger politics. Also - not accountable.
