What is it that attracts racists, Islamaphobes, homophobes and general bigots to Nigel Farage?

I’ve pinched this question from James O’Brian. And to me it is obvious, - they are fascists - talking about replacing the police with paramilitaries and bringing back the death penalty as well as shoot f….g immigrants has huge echoes of 1930s Germany.

So why would you vote for him?

Anyone who believes Parker et al were set up want to have a look at this nice bridge I’m selling? (That was another Parker, funnily enough)

Lizzie all previous US presidents are commonly referred to by the title. It’s technically incorrect in a formal setting (when it should be Mr Lastname if talking to them directly, or Former President Lastname if introducing them or talking about them) but in informal settings people still use Mr President/President Lastname, and that’s become accepted for most occasions. So much as I despise Trump, he’s as entitled to be called President as the other 45.

Of course it was a set up have you watched the YouTube video, anyone with an ounce of intelligence could see this. Why would he not speak in his normal refined voice on the Channel 4 video? He says he specialises in rough voices and undercover work and he had previously worked for Channel 4.

You must really have your head in the sand if you can't see this.

LizzieDrip Sat 29-Jun-24 14:03:45

Thanks Siope - every day’s a school day! I didn’t know that about the US president.

You don’t often hear Obama, and others, still being referred to as president though - or perhaps they’re just not talked about as much as Trump is🙈

Anyway, when I hear one of his supporters being interviewed and calling him President Trump, I’ll now have to just seethe inwardly🤷‍♀️

Read this x report from GB presenter Charlie Peters

"There are unevidenced theories floating around - promoted by some journalists - that the Reform volunteer filmed by Channel 4 making racist comments about Rishi Sunak could have been a set-up because he has worked as an actor.

I've spoken to Andrew Parker this morning, he said these theories are total rubbish.

He claims he was goaded by the undercover reporter and that he was making his horrible comments in a "jokey" atmosphere, but absolutely rejects any suggestion that he was a "paid actor" set-up to make Reform look bad."

I really don't know how much more evidence you want that he both is an actor, is genuine as a Reform supporter, and was not hired for the job.

It was a set up. Why would he speak in a different voice why not just be himself then? He specialises in undercover acting work and rough voices and had previously worked fie Channel 4.

MaizieD Sat 29-Jun-24 14:15:18

Parker worked for Ch4 in 1982. 42 years ago.

Hardly a close association, is it?

I expect hundreds, if not thousands, of actors have worked for Ch4 over the years. That doesn't prevent them from being foul mouthed racist Reform activists.

Siope Sat 29-Jun-24 14:15:44

Lizzie, I’m sure Trump relishes more than any other, and I’m sure some (many?) of his supporters use it to demonstrate their belief that the last election was rigged.

LizzieDrip Sat 29-Jun-24 14:19:12

So, just getting this straight in my own head:

CH4 says it was not a set up.

Parker says it was not a set up.

The only person saying it was a set up is Nigel Faragehmm

MaizieD Sat 29-Jun-24 14:20:48

would he speak in a different voice why not just be himself then?

Matching his accent to that of his audience, no doubt.

Despite their Leader's privileged Public School, City finance background, which apparently makes him 'one of them', I can't see potential Reform voters giving much attention to a posh speaking apparent member of the hated Establishment.

How much evidence do you need? You are in denial. And you say that I’m naive confused

LizzieDrip Sat 29-Jun-24 14:23:31

I agree Siope.

I particularly noticed it in a recent podcast interview with an ardent Trump supporter. She appeared to go out of her way to refer to him as ‘president’. If she said it once, she said it a hundred times🙈 I think that’s why it stuck in my head!

I think it's the other way round, how much evidence do you need. Have you watched the YouTube video.

The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.'

Whitewavemark2 Sat 29-Jun-24 14:40:46

Indeed

Whitewavemark2 Sat 29-Jun-24 14:42:18

I note that Farage is too frit to appear on Kuenssberg tomorrow - claiming that the BBC is biased😄😄

Siope Sat 29-Jun-24 14:47:07

This is, according to his tweet, because the representative audience on Question Time were biased. I think that he’s not enjoyed facing up to scrutiny from the 85% minimum (judging by the polls) who don’t approve of him.

It’s always so with populists: blame other people.

foxie48 Sat 29-Jun-24 14:52:28

It makes me smile when people say the BBC is biased and we should view GB News for balance. Do they know who owns and funds GB News? Do they know how many times GB News has been sanctioned for significant breeches of the Ofcom code? Probably not!

Siope Sat 29-Jun-24 14:52:47

He’s apparently holding a ‘rally’ at the NEC tomorrow. £5 a ticket. He refused to attend open hustings in Clacton last week.

Both scared of scrutiny and a grifter. Big surprise.

westendgirl Sat 29-Jun-24 14:53:42

Nice nanny do you think the participants in last night's Fiona Bruce Question Time were a set up as well ?
Nigel Farage does. Following Trump , who always blames others.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 29-Jun-24 14:54:49

I love the way that Tice is now “spreading the word” that there is a people’s protest against the stitch up

My god it is so reminiscent of Trump and the “steal”

Whitewavemark2 Sat 29-Jun-24 14:57:14

So even if you put aside the chap that Reform is claiming is an actor.

They still haven’t explained the foulness from Farage’s campaign organiser and the myriad others who are standing as candidates.

It is all a load of rubbish and they know it is.

Wyllow3 Sat 29-Jun-24 14:58:08

Oh, he's boycotted BBC altogether 😂

" I’m refusing until the BBC apologises for their dishonest Question Time audience."

toys out of pram.

LizzieDrip Sat 29-Jun-24 15:07:39

Of course, it’s all distraction away from any scrutiny of Reform’s policies - if they actually have any, that is.

Wyllow3 Sat 29-Jun-24 15:19:33

They do - but the economic ones have been discredited.

Its migration and certain social policies that is are the heart of his attraction to followers.

On migration, his central policy is Zero tolerance, turn back the boats back to French beaches, which cannot bear close questioning as it's not legally or practically possible. I'd like to see him pressed on that in a detailed 1 2 1 interview.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 29-Jun-24 15:19:41

Of course, it’s all distraction away from any scrutiny of Reform’s policies - if they actually have any, that is.

That is exactly it.

There isn’t a reform supporter on GN who has a clue as to what their policies are except

Stop immigration - but Farage was clueless how that would happen - although one of his electioneers rather thought “shooting them” might be the obvious answer.

And no tax to pay if you earn less than £20000, but high earners 40p tax threshold means that the better off would benefit much more than pensioners etc. but Farage didn’t seem to want to discuss this. Neither did he appear to know how the money would be raised.

Apart from those two policies, nothing else was discussed as Farage was too busy grandstanding.
