What is it that attracts racists, Islamaphobes, homophobes and general bigots to Nigel Farage?

I’ve pinched this question from James O’Brian. And to me it is obvious, - they are fascists - talking about replacing the police with paramilitaries and bringing back the death penalty as well as shoot f….g immigrants has huge echoes of 1930s Germany.

So why would you vote for him?

Whitewavemark2 Sat 29-Jun-24 15:20:59

Two identical explanations 😄😄😄

Merion Sat 29-Jun-24 15:22:17

The first step in a fascist movement is the combination under an energetic leader of a number of men who possess more than the average share of leisure, brutality, and stupidity. The next step is to fascinate fools and muzzle the intelligent, by emotional excitement on the one hand and terrorism on the other. (Bertrand Russell).

Whatever went on in Clacton (and Andrew Parker wasn’t the only campaigner being odious) it doesn’t detract from the fact that an increasing number of Reform candidates have been and are having to be dropped. Three more were added to the list via QT yesterday.

Those that I know of:

Benjamin Dade, Jonathan Kay, Mick Greenhough, Ginny Ball, Nick Davies, David Carpin, Roger Hoe and now Leslie Lilley, Edward Oakenfull and Robert Loman.

There’s no conspiracy there. These people have been hoist by the appalling things they are on record saying.

Hope Not Hate published this exposé on Dade:

hopenothate.org.uk/2024/03/21/far-right-fantasies-of-reform-uk-candidate-beau-dade/

He was after banning the BBC and The Guardian (of course) but also the Daily Mail. Sedious and revolutionary apparently.

I believe that Nazi-appeaser, Putin sympathiser and misogynist Ian Gribbin is still standing in Bexhill. This:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cjmmrwexv4ko

Among other things, he said "Men pay 80% of tax – women spend 80% of tax revenue. On aggregate as a group you [women] only take from society. If you agree with Gribbin that women are the "sponging gender" and should be "deprived of health care” then vote for Reform.

Merion Sat 29-Jun-24 15:26:38

Correction. Seditious.

Hear, hear Merion 👏👏👏

It worth remembering that both Farage and Tice are Climate Change deniers. Sadly it not being discussed much atm, but in fact very serious, following Trumps belief that Climate Change is a hoax

Oh, he's boycotted BBC altogether 😂

" I’m refusing until the BBC apologises for their dishonest Question Time audience."

toys out of pram.

Hasn’t he appeared on Question Time more than anyone else even though he’s never been an MP? Does this mean that we never ever have to see him on it again grin? I take it he won’t be appearing on Ch 4 either…

Nicenanny3 Sat 29-Jun-24 15:47:22

Siope

This is, according to his tweet, because the representative audience on Question Time were biased. I think that he’s not enjoyed facing up to scrutiny from the 85% minimum (judging by the polls) who don’t approve of him.

It’s always so with populists: blame other people.

Well after seeing a clip of this man on YouTube I'd agree with him. I'm sure you'd say black was white. I can see why posters don't want to post on news and politics because of the little gang of lefties who wait for someone to dare to post a different view then pile on but ho sticks and stones and all that, when you're over the target you start taking flax.

Iam64 Sat 29-Jun-24 16:04:40

Merino, thanks

The QT audience is selected to give a fair balance of political opinion. When you apply to be in the audience, you’re asked questions
Farage and his gransnet supporters are so reminiscent of Trump’s base supporters. I’d never seen posters whose comments I often agree with as a gang of lefties. MOnica, GG13, varian and others would, I suspect, rightly denie being ‘lefties’

MayBee70 Sat 29-Jun-24 16:13:04

I think most of us inhabit the centre ground, being just to the right or left of centre. I find it very disturbing to suspect that some forum members seem to be far right.

Wouldn’t it be luvverly…

Yes, but we also have far left members as well, which suggests that we represent a reasonable cross-section of the electorate.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 29-Jun-24 18:23:04

The concept of far left is interesting, as it seems to me that both the greens and Libs are certainly left of labour.

I shall be voting Labour, but I can equally be as happy voting for Greens or Libs.

HousePlantQueen Sat 29-Jun-24 18:42:43

Honestly....there are none so blind as they who will not see. Even your beloved GB news have dismissed the claims that Ch4 set Farage up.

I have come to the unhappy conclusion, evidenced by the dismissal of all proof, and by the desperate claim that GN is a hotbed of rabid lefties, that some on here share the same disgusting views as Farage. Shame on you

Whitewavemark2 Sat 29-Jun-24 18:42:55

Reform have said that they are making a complaint to the Electoral Commission and police against Channel 4. Attached is the Electoral comment.

Iam64 Sat 29-Jun-24 19:02:23

HousePlantQueen -I fear you’re spot on

Doodledog Sat 29-Jun-24 19:03:12

Roll on next Thursday, when I really hope all this stops.

Wyllow3 Sat 29-Jun-24 19:04:35

I've seen the picture above of course as Farage posted it as the one shown, with one other audience member they thought should not have been there, a newsreel cameraman (in his own capacity).

They were just 2 people in the whole audience which (having watched QT and heard questions applause etc) were representative of a wide range of views including ones clapping Farage.

I don't find this "unacceptable" at all.

Why should one person who happened to have Pro-Palestinian POV not be amongst the many?

Iam64 Sat 29-Jun-24 19:10:44

Exactly Wyllow. He also asked good questions calmly

MaizieD Sat 29-Jun-24 19:13:24

Doodledog

Roll on next Thursday, when I really hope all this stops.

If Farage wins Clacton (and if there are one or two more Reform MPs) he's going to make himself as awkward as possible in Parliament for at least a few months. I think we'll get more tales of being victimised by the Establishment until he rushes off to the US in November to campaign for Trump.

Kandinsky Sat 29-Jun-24 19:14:21

Hear Hear.
Although the left wingers on here will be bored still as they’ll have no Tories/ Nigel Farage to moan about all day long.

Iam64 Sat 29-Jun-24 19:17:11

No, I can only speak fir myself but if Labour win and Farage is trounced, I certainly wont be bored

Kandinsky Sat 29-Jun-24 19:18:33

If Farage wins Clacton

He won’t. He’s never been elected as an MP and he’s tried a few times

Wyllow3 Sat 29-Jun-24 19:30:31

Iam64

Exactly Wyllow. He also asked good questions calmly

He was in the audience as he is an immigration solicitor and clearly would have a certain POV.

I hope you are right Kandinsky about Clacton.

I expect both right and left wingers in GN will find matters to get our teeth into....🤔

Whitewavemark2 Sat 29-Jun-24 19:30:41

Nor me, because I shall be watching the government like a hawk to be satisfied that they have the country and its people at the centre of their policies.
