What is it that attracts racists, Islamaphobes, homophobes and general bigots to Nigel Farage?

I’ve pinched this question from James O’Brian. And to me it is obvious, - they are fascists - talking about replacing the police with paramilitaries and bringing back the death penalty as well as shoot f….g immigrants has huge echoes of 1930s Germany.

So why would you vote for him?

As a limited company he’s charging people a £5 entry fee.

^We had our peculiar far right moment which brought about Brexit and division and hate.^

It wasn't just people on the right who voted for Brexit. Labour Leave was a campaign group, for instance.
Tony Blair first mooted a referendum but did not proceed with it. I think Cameron assumed (wrongly) that the result would be a firm vote to stay and was as shocked as many of us at the result. Even Farage seemed shocked and surprised (but elated).

So no, it wouldn't be right to blame the so-called far right.

Yes, it has left divisions and caused damage in so many ways.

It wouldn’t be right at all, tbh am sick to death of all the blaming still going on, only on forums tho am happy to say.

That’s a salutary tale Callistemon. The Corbyn era caused rifts in many Labour constituencies, including my own. During the debates about which leadership candidate we should support, the `Corbyn activists were routing for Rebecca Long Bailey. Starmer won the vote by 3. I’d rousted myself to go along with mr I who had more stamina for the fight than I did. Our neighbour joined us. It’s pretty clear, we 3 ‘moderates’ influenced the result.

Well done you😃

No one is suggesting miracles. The pro labour/libdem/green etc posters here are all expressing genuine concern about how the next government can begin the process of re-building our country

As long as Greens and Lib Dems aren’t an actual part of the new government!
Am hoping Labour get in comfortably as predicted and have no need of any propping up with a coalition.

Goodness this thread is depressing. Division and hate continues to flourish even amongst grans who describe themselves as moderate, and on all sides of the debate. Brexit casts a very long shadow. While ever those who voted for it are dismissed as stupid, or even worse, far right and fascist, there will never be any reconciliation. I don’t think anything will change whichever party wins this election.

Interesting article in The Sunday Times alleging Russian involvement in promoting Reform on social media.

Someone has made a version with the first verse of Right Said Fred as a soundtrack which is great, but I can’t link to that.

Brilliant. Thanks for that.

Agreed. It’s horrible. People seem to like to throw vile accusations around. Talk about holier than thou.

We have a different Labour candidate this time so the result will be interesting. She does seem keen and impressive but I have read that she is already on the CC for a ward here and has never been seen since the day of the CC elections 🤔

Re my previous post about our local Labour candidate.

The person who said that is a numpty mistaken. The reason she has never been seen in their ward since the day of the County Council elections is because she is a County Councillor for a different ward in a different town 😁

Too late anyway, I voted for her.

Labour have removed their candidate from Clacton 👍

Saying that you are running for every black and brown person in the country is not in the same league as suggesting shooting immigrants as target practice for a paramilitary police, though, is it?

This is where whataboutery leads.

Kandinsky Sun 30-Jun-24 11:14:05

Can you imagine if Nigel Farage said ‘ I’m running for every white person,’ it would be all over the news, endless threads on here about it - but a Labour candidate says something racist and it’s hardly been reported?

Callistemon213 Sun 30-Jun-24 11:16:11

It's just as well, though, as his remarks were an embarrassment and divisive.
Where do they find these idiots? Foot in mouth syndrome.

Iam64 Sun 30-Jun-24 11:16:38

It was widely reported. He’s been dropped. No one is pretending he’s an actor

Pardon, of course there are excuses for every Labour candidate. Even a racist such as this.

Muslim entrepreneur has donated hundreds of thousands of pounds to Reform UK, claiming the UK has "lost control of our borders”.

The precise amount Zia Yusuf has given to the party has not been disclosed but Reform UK claims it is the biggest donation of their general election campaign so far.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has faced criticism from Muslim organisations after he said a growing number of Muslims do not share British values.

When asked by the BBC about critics labelling some in Reform UK racist, Mr Yusuf said the party leadership "feel very strongly that we should protect British values and put British people of all religions and creeds first."

As well as being a donor, the BBC understands the 37-year-old will have a public role for Reform UK during the campaign.

In an interview with The Telegraph, which first reported the story of his donation,, external Mr Yusuf said: "I love Britain and I'm a patriot, a British Muslim patriot, which I believe the vast majority of Muslims in the UK are."

Mr Yusuf, who earned an estimated £31m from selling his luxury concierge app Velocity Black last year, told the BBC he believed "unsustainable" net migration levels were making it harder for legal migrants to integrate and overwhelming the NHS.

.

Zia Yusuf the Reform Party's biggest donor and a Muslim is speaking at this event, perhaps some of you should listen to what he has to say.

Labour have removed their candidate from Clacton 👍

I’ve looked online, this is not reported on any reputable news site at all. He is still standing according to the Labour website.Either it’s not true or the site you had it from has an exclusive, can you tell us your source please Nicenanny3?

Its certainly going to produce some difficult feelings in Reform supporters who are anti-muslim going o about being taken over and how women are in danger and how sharia law is about to arrive and have frequently said so......

Apologies for accepting the statement he’s been dropped. I’ve now googled and as with Casdon can’t find any reports he’s been dropped, or allegations of racism or homophobia. The theme running through news reports is Labour using this candidate in areas they’re more likely to win

Nicenanny3 Sun 30-Jun-24 11:47:56

Labour candidate Jovan Owusu-Nepaul has said he is running against Nigel Farage in Clacton “for every Black and brown person in the country” and believes the Reform UK leader’s decision to stand has “changed the nature of the campaign”.
