What is it that attracts racists, Islamaphobes, homophobes and general bigots to Nigel Farage?

I’ve pinched this question from James O’Brian. And to me it is obvious, - they are fascists - talking about replacing the police with paramilitaries and bringing back the death penalty as well as shoot f….g immigrants has huge echoes of 1930s Germany.

So why would you vote for him?

Iam64 Sun 30-Jun-24 11:51:16

What’s the problem with that ?

As a limited company he’s charging people a £5 entry fee.

So what? If people are willing to pay that then it speaks volumes. What’s five quid these days?

Taylor Swift tickets were nearly £1000 each.

The Royals charge much more than that to visit any of their properties as do the National Trust.

Owusu-Nepaul was heavily criticised online during the campaign after an old tweet of his emerged in which he reacted to a friend talking about “white man tears” with the reply: “My favourite drink”.

“They were comments made before I put myself forward for election. Prior to that I was a private citizen. Of course, I would never use such language as an elective representative,” the candidate told PoliticsHome.

Hypocrite perhaps

Yia Yusuf with Nigel Farage

This is a good example of using the actions of one Muslim to stereotype a whole group of people with widely different views. Farage, as a white male, doesn't represent my views or that of very many voters in this country including every white male. Yia Yusuf doesn't represent the views of Muslims either, nor does his donation to Reform validate their aims any more than Hester's donation to the Conservative party. Yia Yusef can donate to any party he likes but it doesn't make him "right". It's the equivalent of saying I can't be racist because I have a friend who is black/Muslim/ Jewish etc etc.

Thanks foxie48, I’m losing the will to continue participating. You’ve expressed my feelings so much more calmly and clearly than I could

Full house at the Birmingham rally, it's live on YouTube if anyone is interested.

Good post.

It gets worse.
So he said his favourite drink was ‘white mans tears’

And labour haven’t sacked him?

Again, if NF had said his favourite drink was black mans tears he’d he crucified.

This is what’s wrong with this country.
Everyone looks the other way if a left winger says something racist.

What appears to be getting worse is people believing Reform propaganda.
All this information about the guy standing against Farage is unverified by any reputable news source, and until it is, more fool anybody who swallows it.

Please can you add a link to your source as I can't find anything about this "controversy".

Wyllow3 Sun 30-Jun-24 12:29:50

Are you aware of the actual origins of that phrase? "white mans tears?"
Its got a long literary and social history in the USA and its origin is quite clear - white people who have a sort of pious compassion for racial minorities but are as in Foxie's definition
" I can't be racist because I have a friend who is black/Muslim/ Jewish etc etc."

There is nothing online, I believe it’s fake news.

I wont watch it as I dislike these sound bite rallies (from any party)

but I really would like to know the answer to the question

How does Farage propose exactly to turn back the boats and plonk people on French beaches, since its the major part of Reform strategy.

Yes, Casdon, I too have scoured the media with no references found except from Farage.

That isn’t a source. That’s a TV station Farage works for reporting that Farage said something. There is no link to the purported tweet, which, if it ever existed, would be archived and straightforward for any competent journalist to find.

Starmer says he's going to renegotiate the Dublin agreement, I hear. More money to the French then, without results.

Kandinsky Sun 30-Jun-24 12:55:09

I’ve found a report in the independent about it - apparently he tweeted it ( tweet now deleted ). He hasn’t denied it from what I can see.

The original post read

: “Going into 2020 I’m going to continue to be vocal about how to tackle racism and the fact I drink white man tears on a regular basis*

Mr Nepaul replied to the post saying: “My favourite drink

I believe that ‘gnews’ is not a recognised news source petra. I’ve newer heard of it, and I can’t find a reference to it online.

It’s reported in the independent.

I found it within 5 minutes.
But I had to look for it. it’s been hidden / overlooked by 99% of news outlets.

Doodledog Sun 30-Jun-24 13:14:15

I assume he meant it was in the same way that Sunak says he is proud to be the first Asian PM. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t see his comment as racist.

Perhaps given the context he meant it as a way of saying that Farage is encouraging the sort of hatred that would be dangerous for people of colour.

Either way, it’s not remotely the same in my opinion.
