Mollygo the BBC weren't allowed in. They said the security vetting took hours so it makes little sense to me.

I imagine that it will come out eventually that this gunman was acting alone.

Quite often, these lone gunmen are found to be rather 'sorry', unstable individuals leading reclusive lives ("he didn't really mix with other people") with no clear motive, but bearing a general 'grudge'. The sort that not infrequently have a fascination for weapons whose computers on investigation reveal numerous searches for same online.

If it's true that his donation to the 'Progressive' party (or whatever it's called) was $15, it doesn't really smack of some gung-ho 'Rambo' type, determined to avenge whatever ills he dreamed up, does it?

But nothing will prevent the conspiracy theorists - the "this-doesn't-sit-right-with-me" enthusiasts; those that want to foment more trouble by insisting it was a Biden plot to dispose of his rival - or just a Democrat (unspecified) plot. It's all so predictable.

Eventually the truth might reveal something and someone far more mundane.

The shooter gave Biden & democrats monetary support apparently.

Let’s not make a 15 dollar donation to a PAC when he was 17 any relevance . The shooter was also a registered Republican which he would have done at 18 . This will be a lone shooter ( someone here implied he did not act alone ) very common in the USA ( sadly ) .
Note that on Monday the Republican convention starts and there will be outside venues where guns will be allowed ! Trump and all the bigwigs will be inside . There will also be thousands of protestors against Trump arriving . This will be a volatile mix .

There is a BBC rep. interviewing a man who witnessed the gunman who saw Thomas Matthew Cook crawling on the roof with a rifle. Saw him shoot, and get killed by SS.

He is questioning how and why the SS didn't have men positioned on the local buildings (only 3 ) to ensure safety?

Please accept there are a lots of grey areas in life ,which is mostly mundane. Looking for conspiracy seems to be a hobby with internet trolls.

High profile people have bullet-proof glass in their cars. Why on earth don't they erect bullet-proof glass screens around the speaker at events such as this rally? They wouldn't go around in an open-top car.

An American news person defined a mass shooting as a shooter actively engaged in attempting to kill people in a populated area. This seems to qualify. Mass murder seems to mean at least 3 people killed.
