Riots in Southport

I’m fuming about this, allegedly the English Defence League, attacking a local mosque, police attacked and vehicle set on fire. The police have reiterated ‘ the person under arrest was born in the UK’ and to ignore misinformation on social media.
Those poor residents grieving and in shock without the EDL basically stirring.

To label every single one of those people as thugs is just plain ignorant. Many are ,as I have said a couple of times now, but others have GENUINE feelings of fear and resentment because they are disadvantaged and can’t see a way out of their situation. This black and white view and calling people Nazis is appalling and needs calling out. People are not rioting because they are happy.

Well, some of them are rioting because they want to break into shops and steal phones and alcohol. I suppose that will make them happy so that’s ok.

It's not discord I just dont want to pretend, that's partly why we are where we are.
If I say it's all working brilliantly that wont make it true.
Sorry Pascal I am not sure this is the place, it will just turn into an arguement on that contenscious issue which wont help!.

Well I understand the issues.

There is a small group that entirely rejects men and their body parts, and therefore are unable to take part in Pride, but this not not include the vast majority of lesbians who are as inclusive as everyone else, celebrating difference.

All a bit esoteric tbh

Urmstongran Sun 04-Aug-24 10:14:43

Indeed.

Some will be out there because they think it's an exciting thing to do.
Too much time, not enough purpose in life.

Galaxy Sun 04-Aug-24 10:21:58

Yes the threats the violence all a bit esoteric.
And those silly lesbians if only they would be more inclusive of men.

I thought it was in June?
It was here.

So completely rejecting 50% of the earths human population is the way to go?

On a loser there I would have thought!

Galaxy Sun 04-Aug-24 10:32:54

They dont want men on their dating apps, etc. They dont want to pretend men are women.
Men find being told no by women very tricky sometimes. Those lesbians are frightened because of the threats.

Wyllow3 Sun 04-Aug-24 10:37:18

I'm sure it's true that in each place where there are riots there are disaffected locals joining in.

However, the riots are being highly organised on social media, invitations to join in various places put out by social media and the tone of the riots are racist in nature as they plan in advance to attack Mosques. They are attacking UK citizens simply because of race and encouraging others to do so.

They also claim they are "doing it for the children" (seen on banners and T shirts" which is horrifically offensive for the families in southport who have specifically asked for no violence.

My northern city is "on the list" for a future riot. In all, Hope not Hate (who keep a watch out on social media)

May I ask please give those of us affected space on this thread to stick to the O/P subject which is on the riots.

Galaxy Sun 04-Aug-24 10:39:31

I did try.
But I am not going to let ideas go unchallenged that I dont agree with, otherwise it becomes completely one sided and quite oppressive.

Galaxy Sun 04-Aug-24 10:41:02

My nearest city is on the list too. I actually agree with Patel (not words I expected to say) I think parliament should be recalled.

🤔 I’m not a Lesbian but am with them on not ‘celebrating’ anything to do with Pride.I simply don’t get what they have to be proud about, we don’t have hetero pride marches😁
In any case the Pride things have become carnivals of fetish wearers and trans activists and bearded ladies.😬

There are many reasons for the riots, getting back to the main subject.
Those genuinely bothered by the high immigration levels, especially the small boat illegal migrants who are mainly economic migrants anyway.
Those who find the prospect of a riot exciting.
Those who are glad to have the excuse to break into shops and set things on fire.
Those who are really far right and out to cause trouble for their cause.
Hot weather always brings out the worst, we need some heavy rain.

*Yes of course there are many homeless just as there are in other towns but as you walk past and pop a coin or two into their hand and wish them good day, they are always cheerful, grateful and polite*

Are you living in the Mary Poppins film?

😂

Wyllow3 Sun 04-Aug-24 10:53:32

I can appreciate you are following up on comments made Galaxy and regret any prompts leading to it. But the rioting as you say for you too is a concern. and how we police in this country

I agree with the recall of parliament too, btw. I think this has become a really charged series of issues that ned to be addressed not just left to fester.

The Far Right?
In Liverpool? The most Far Left district in England?
The media and Starmer are fooling no-one.

Whatever media you get your nonsense from is certainly fooling you.

Liverpool is as likely to have as many apolitical racist thugs as any other large centre of population. And lads up for a spot of looting and destruction...

AGAA4 Sun 04-Aug-24 11:04:56

The riots are becoming more widespread and if they start spilling over into more suburban or rural areas it will make policing them a nightmare.
It seems the plan is to cause as much disruption bad possible.

AGAA4 Sun 04-Aug-24 11:05:31

*as possible

Oreo Sun 04-Aug-24 11:06:46

I think it will be mainly cities ( hopefully) tho there may be a few towns as well.

BBC I player has a live feed ongoing with several topics covered:

The director of Tell Mama, a group which monitors anti-Muslim incidents across the UK, says there has been an increase in reports from British Muslims expressing concerns for their safety.
Iman Atta tells BBC Radio 4's Sunday programme that people "are scared to go to their mosques" and she has received "many" reports of Muslim women being targeted in the wake of the unrest across the country.

“What we're seeing on our streets need to stop,” Atta says, adding “we need to call it out as it is".

She calls for social media companies to be held "accountable" and says so far, there have been a "few" MPs who have called out the racism in their constituencies.
“The message that comes from political leaders is key," Atta says.
Earlier this morning the policing minister, Dame Diana Johnson, said that "people particularly are frightened because of the colour of their skin, and that cannot be right and that is something this government will take every action to deal with".

My point here is that the organisers of the events on social Media are setting up the narratives for the riots by conflating concerns about immigrants with Islamaphobia.

Meanwhile, glad to copy and paste good news!

"Southport is 'pulling together', says reverend
published at 10:56
10:56
Reverend Marie-Anne Kent, of St Philip and St Paul with Wesley Church in Southport, says churches across the area will be open as a safe space for people.

She tells the BBC Breakfast programme "there's a lot of mixed emotions around - the anxiety the fear, the numbness the grief, everyone is welcome we need to be together at a time like this."

Kent adds that the focus should be on the "families and young people who have been traumatised by the events of Monday, and yet we've been overtaken by the violence".

She says "so many acts of kindness" have taken place in the community, with people bringing cakes and toast down to officers.

"Southport has really pulled together, and every act of kindness is saying we are against this hate, these acts of violence", Kent adds.

Catch up with what is happening in Rotherham - still think they are not thugs?
