In two days time it will be the anniversary of the Israeli massacre where around 1200 people were murdered and around 300 people were taken hostage. Today there is a big pro Palestine march him London. Would it have been more respectful and appropriate to have waited till next week or later in the month for this march to take place, especially since the first bombing of Gaza started on 13/10/23 and Israeli troops first entered Gaza on 27/10/23.
As someone whose husband has family in Lebanon, trying to stay alive right now, who are Muslim, I am beyond offended right now and extremely upset. Am off. As I said will attend a ceremony for the victims of Oct 7th tomorrow, my thoughts are with their loved ones. 🙏🏾
I,live in a town with a large community of Pakistani Muslim heritage. We avoided the race riots and when the EDL came trying to stir division several years ago some of that community joined forces with the anti fascist league and literally chased them back to their coaches.
Since 9/11 I’ve noticed a growing pro Muslim anti Jewish attitude, expressed freely There’s a belief the twin towers were targeted by ‘the Jews and the Americans. Challenged, the dialogue switches to explain the `Americans set the towers up with explosives so they’d collapse. These conspiracy theories are alive and growing. The war is likely to confirm distorted beliefs. What to do
Thanks for sharing the BBC report on today’s Hyde Park Memorial Service. I had been expecting reports in the Guardian and was a bit surprised not to see any …. Biased reporting again?
Its not as of now 9.30pm in any major newspaper Ronib - so I don't think its biased, rather BBC reacted with more speed (and credit to them, given what some say about the BBC.!)
Wyllow3 The Memorial Service was held earlier today- there has been ample time to report it in all the major newspapers. The popular press were very quick off the mark yesterday to show pro Palestinian marches. Well there’s always tomorrow but ….
I don’t suppose we’d know if they were trying to secure her release Allira. But a new government, with all that’s been going on lately, it’s probably not a hugely high priority, particularly as Hamas are hardly likely to release her just because our government asked.
Her poor mother, I can’t even guess how she feels or even how she gets out of bed every day and puts one foot in front of the other. And all the relatives of all the hostages are living through torture whilst they remain in captivity.
An elderly British couple were on last night's news. Their daughter and her family were living on the kibbutz where so many were killed and kidnapped by Hamas. Their daughter and 2 young granddaughters were killed and their son-in-law taken hostage. They have been back and forth to the house cleaning it all and tidying the garden so it is fit for when their son-in-law is released. I watched their quiet dignity and hope that they will see him again one day very moving.
