The US Election.

With only 3 weeks to go, perhaps we can start to watch the shenanigans taking place in the USA.

Trump is warning America of his intention post election.

“Donald Trump has provoked an angry backlash from Democrats after calling for the US armed forces to be turned against his political adversaries when voters go to the polls at next month’s presidential election.
In comments that added further fuel to fears of an authoritarian crackdown if he recaptures the White House, the Republican nominee said the military or national guard should be deployed against opponents that he called “the enemy within” when the election takes place on 5 November.
He singled out the California congressman, Adam Schiff, who was the lead prosecutor in the ex-president’s first impeachment trial, as posing a bigger threat to a free and fair election than foreign terrorists or illegal immigrants, his usual prime target for abuse.
Trump’s comments, to Fox News in response to a question on possible election “chaos”, triggered an angry reaction from Kamala Harris’s campaign, which likened them to previous remarks that he would be a dictator “on day one” of a second presidency and his suggestions that the US constitution should be terminated to overturn the 2020 election result, which he falsely claims was stolen by Joe Biden”.

Sadly there aren’t any great politicians of the old days out there, on either side of the pond. Its dreary viewing to say the least

How different we are! I really like her speeches. She comes across was warm and "real" compared with Trump.

Wyllow3 Wed 30-Oct-24 00:50:09

I think a statistic I find both intriguing and worrying are the gender gaps voting for the candidates for younger people. Huge numbers for Harris from women, huge numbers of young men for Trump.

David49 Wed 30-Oct-24 06:29:56

Listening to Harris it about as charismatic as listening to Starmer both are lawyers, neither are good orators.

Galaxy Wed 30-Oct-24 07:34:52

Its because we are divided across all metrics these days.

Allsorts Wed 30-Oct-24 07:45:21

I don't think much of either, are they the only two in that huge country they can come up with? They put people on the moon but listen to Trump who is in my opinion nuts as are the people who listen to his tripe, so theres only the other one really. Uts going to be a rocky road ahead,

This is largely true I feel.

I find neither riveting - but I'd rather capable and principled with an attention to detail than an entertainer!

Isn't this just the problem? Politicians are being judged on the wrong things. Charisma is a nice extra but it's not top of my list when it comes to electing a PM or POTUS or voting for my local MP.

Wyllow3 Wed 30-Oct-24 12:58:36

This new emphasis on charisma - it can be quite a double edged sword, as in attracting cult status, people wanting to "believe".

In the dictionary charismatic is defined as "exercising a compelling charm which inspires devotion in others"

"relating to the charismatic movement in the Christian Church"

As devious a man as you might meet! His "lottery" to buy votes for the Republicans in Pennsylvania.

He is being sued by the Philadelphia prosecutor

Googling "musk plastic surgery" and "musk swimming" can be interesting. I wouldn't care if he's had procedures done and used weight loss drugs if he wasn't in public life, but somehow this once flabby, chinless balding man has money enough to have transformed himself into a kind of icon of strength we're supposed to worship and it isn't the real him.

Galaxy Wed 30-Oct-24 15:31:48

Sorry I honestly dont know how to respond to that.

MayBee70 Wed 30-Oct-24 19:49:25

Has Biden just handed Trump the keys to the White House with his thoughtless comment sad?

Nmama Wed 30-Oct-24 19:51:01

Sorry--Musk simply strikes me as a huge phony megalomaniac in the Donald Trump mold, and Trump says he plans to use him when he's president. Granted Musk's attitude toward workers, that's not good news. (Musk was not born an American citizen, so he cannot become President. Whew.) He's been in an Iron Man film, which gave him a lot of attention, and recently has been trying to encourage people to vote by, if I understand it correctly, having a lottery for voters in Pennsylvania, which is a state Trump needs to win. That turns out to be illegal. He has also offered to "give Taylor Swift a child" so she won't be a childless cat lady. Big of him. He's already had a bunch of children (to whom he's given very weird names) and not all of them are willing to have contact with him, despite his millions. I think he's an unsavory character, in short, and he's involved in the US election and is trying to help Trump, and . . .ick.

He described Trump voters as garbage. Although he says he was referring to the comment made by the comedian at Trumps rally and it got misconstrued. Mind you, Trumps son has boasted about having 40,000 people at Trumps NewYork rally only for someone to point out that the venue has a capacity of 20,000. It’s all getting a bit silly.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 30-Oct-24 20:06:37

Tbh I’m not sure at this point anything will make a difference.

MayBee70 Wed 30-Oct-24 20:07:56

I hope not sad.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 30-Oct-24 20:10:44

They seem to have been stuck on 48% for both for weeks now. Not sure what the swing states are showing. Too close to call I think.

I know Trump is already suggesting that he won’t accept the Pennsylvanian vote if he loses.

LizzieDrip Wed 30-Oct-24 20:11:29

Thanks MayBe.

Yes, the name-calling and general vitriol in the USA election is becoming ridiculous. Let’s hope Biden’s comment doesn’t make any difference. Apparently many USA citizens have already voted so🤞🤞🤞

I just can’t stand the thought of Trump winning - I really think he’s unhinged!

Just incredible to read.

Do you also like the fact he entered the USA as an illegal immigrant?
