Its Keir Starmer, not Kier Starmer

Why do some posters constantly fail to be able to spell his name correctly? Surely we have noticed our PM is Keir after all this time? There is no such name as "Kier".

Wyllow3 Sat 26-Oct-24 15:58:54

I live and learn, no, I wasn't aware of it as a name. Well, I'd heard Kieran of course, but never checked the spelling.

Imo people are being totally disrespectful of the PM by constantly spelling his name wrong. I’ve never known such vitriol aimed at a new PM who, imo, has done nothing to deserve it. Ok Truss was ridiculed but she did crash the economy. It smacks of people jumping on a bandwagon; almost like playground bullying. I don’t understand it and I really am trying to distance myself from gransnet these days.
sad

Posters are allowed to express an opinion of their PM and even if you don’t like the opinions expressed, they’re still allowed to express them.

Kier or Kieran - an Irish name.

'Kier is a masculine name of Irish origin. A variant of Kieran, this name comes from the Irish name Ciarán and the Old Irish word cíar‎, meaning “dark” or “swarthy.”'

Keir Starmer is called after Keir Hardie so the Scottish version is obviously the correct one. I really don't think you can look at rules and logic in the English language as there are far too many linguistic roots.
Tier / weir / sheer / shear / mere - all homophones.
You just have to learn to spell the name correctly.

I never said people couldn’t express their opinion. Just pointed out that I’m finding it a bit tedious.

totally disrespectful vitriol playground bullying

Bit stronger than ‘finding it a bit tedious’ me thinks.

Oreo Sat 26-Oct-24 16:43:27

Be prepared for more tedium then Maybee70 as Keir hasn’t made a great start.
All PM’s have to be prepared for flak coming their way as do their supporters.

I just saw this on the magazine shelf in M&S while I was buying tonight's curry!
Name calling all the world over.

Yes it's worthy of a thread. Can't stand it when people talk about Weatherspoons.

Same here!

For as long as I have the right to freedom of speech, I will continue to be as rude, disrespectful or disparaging about any politicians that I disagree with. Just as you were as was I and many others about Truss, BoJo, Cummings and Hancock. Difference being that I don't recall seeing you being outraged about the totally disrespectful vitriol playground bullying then. Wonder what's changed? hmm

Anyone remember this?

It's Liza with a "Z" not Lisa with an "S" cause Lisa with an "S" goes snoz Its Z instead of S, Li instead of Lee it's simple as could be see Liza!
Now if my name were Ada, I'd be Ada even backwards I'd be Ada, and if my name were Ruth than I'd be Ruth because with Ruth what can you do? Or Sally or Margaret or Ginger or Faye but when your a Liza, you always have to say, no it's Liza with a "Z" not Lisa with an "S" cause Lisa with an "S" goes snoz Its Z instead of S, Li instead of Lee it's simple as could be see Liza!
Oh! and that is only half of it, there's another way they treat me cruely, how often I remember someone saying "There she goes Lisa Minoulli, or Minolli or Miniola or Minilli or Minillie, so is it a wonder I very often cry! It's M I double N then E double L I you double up the N that's "n" not Lou then E double the L end it with an I that's the way you say Minelli, Liza Minelli, it's easy, it's easy...see it's Lizi....no..... L I Z A

He's lucky if he only gets his Christian name misspelt; my spellchecker will insist on changing his surname to Starker. For which I need brain bleach.

TakeThat7 Sat 26-Oct-24 19:42:41

Absolutely don't care how Starmers name is spelt He isn't due any respect They haven't done anything to improve lives just the opposite Ready to destroy right to buy this next week takingaway one dream for working people Angela having made a good profit on hers Done nothing to make train travel safe again on Sundays train after train still being cancelled and everyone with children risking them being çrushed on thefew running Thenthe ridiculous bbc licence They are supposed to represent the working class How about at least halfing the licence I'm not aware they have done anything decent yet I don't care how his name is spelt He clearly doesnt care about the public

OldFrill Sun 27-Oct-24 00:18:37

There's none more Kier than folk

I don’t think he relates to people at all. But then politicians rarely do, they are in a little world of their own. Sad really.

Have you read the Tom Bowman biography of Keir Starmer nanna8? It is available on Kindle.
I think if you did, you would find plenty of evidence to see him in a different light.

I noticed so many of those type of books yesterday in Waterstones - Starmer, Truss, Boris (no Rishi?). They seem to have replaced the Royal Family ones on the shelves. Do you think people like them as Christmas presents?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 27-Oct-24 08:38:43

I bought Boris’ ‘Unleashed’ just for myself last week. Thoroughly entertaining. A real treat. I dip in and out reading and chuckling at a few pages in between reading a novel.
