I'm so sickened by the attacks on Israeli football fans in Amsterdam. Shades of Nazi Germany.

A worrying and disgusting trajectory of anti Semitism in Europe.

It should have been policed better, certainly, only 13 people were arrested for public order offenses, vandalism, and throwing stones.

And the cause of antisemitism ? the Jews , just as Jews caused polygamy's and the Holocaust and crucified Christ, who was a Jew

I don’t think those pro Palestinians mentioned by escaped cared about Jesus being Jewish but maybe others could a bit more.

Anniebach Wed 13-Nov-24 10:28:29

Only 13, no surprise

Wyllow3 Wed 13-Nov-24 10:52:11

I'm not sure how many would have turned out if it was an anti-king demonstration, but because the President of Israel was also there at a very heated time.

But 13, was under policed.

And reason for the Polygamy’s and the Holocaust? Because they were Jews

paddyann54 Wed 13-Nov-24 11:21:57

You do realise Anniethat many of us don’t believe in Jesus? Or indeed in any god .We are as entitled to our opinions as you.I am Pro Palestinian simply because I KNOW people thrown off their land by Israel and the horrors of their treatment by Israeli government ..I have no issues with Jews I march with many Jews who are also against the government of Israel and who believe the treatment of Palestinians goes against their faith

Anniebach Wed 13-Nov-24 11:27:09

Yes Paddyanne I am quite aware of atheists, I included Christs crucifixion because it has been given as an excuse for
antisemitism, and the polygamy’s and the Holocaust ?

So what's the excuse for arriving in a foreign country and chanting, "Let the IDF win to f* the Arabs" and "There are no schools in Gaza - there are no children" ( a clear reference to the number of children who have been killed in Gaza over the last year)?

Anniebach Wed 13-Nov-24 12:12:58

Do answer my question first

MaizieD Wed 13-Nov-24 12:46:25

Ab

Justifying antisemitism because of the crucifixion of Christ is such a desperately ancient trope that I cannot believe any reasonable person in the world would use today.

Anniebach Wed 13-Nov-24 13:02:10

Seems Pogroms and The Holocaust of no concern

madalene Wed 13-Nov-24 13:02:40

It used to be a massive thing, particularly in Europe, to call Jewish people Christ killers. It was even taught by priests. I know this because of my widespread reading about WW2. I don’t have any knowledge of whether it was used here in the UK as an excuse for antisemitism. I’m assuming that it isn’t used today, but I don’t know.

The Holocaust is often dismissed as something that happened a long time ago, even sometimes on GN Annie.
I believe it’s something that people should learn about to inform their opinions.

Anniebach Wed 13-Nov-24 13:06:58

It was one of the first excuses for antisemitism

Wyllow3 Wed 13-Nov-24 13:10:06

Can we not want to live in a situation where we never forget Pogroms and The Holocaust but neither can we tolerate " "Let the IDF win to f* the Arabs" and "There are no schools in Gaza - there are no children"?

paddyann54 Wed 13-Nov-24 13:19:57

I don’t think anyone dismisses it Madalene however some of us think the victim culture that has allowed Israel to escape the UN resolutions has to end.Yes millions died…almost a hundred years ago the Israel problem isn,t connected. That is down to Balfour and his mishandling of the handover of the “ STATE of Israel” without imposing firm and legal rules for the incomers and safety for the people who had lived there for centuries .
I don’t for a minute imagine anyone on here would be happy for an incoming population to throw you off your land or kill your family and burn your home.Thats what happened to my friend and many many like him Israel is to blame WE are complicit because we allow them to get away with it Now they commit genocide ,murder children and innocent civilians and you still think Israel has a right to do that?

Yes Madalene seems we have Faulty Towers to contend with

Anniebach Wed 13-Nov-24 13:23:51

Good grief , speaking of the Holocaust is victim culture

It's not dismissed by me! I am well aware of the holocaust and centuries of antisemitism, usually perpetuated by Christians. However, I am capable of being objective.

I'm still waiting for some justification of Maccabi Tel Aviv's provocative and racist chants. This was in Holland, for goodness' sake.

I don't understand how people are turning a blind eye to the timeline of what actually happened in Amsterdam and not understanding that it's not surprising that the current right wing Dutch government would want to frame it as anti-Muslim.

Anniebach Wed 13-Nov-24 13:30:45

I only watched a few seconds of the uTube link

I only watched a few seconds of the uTube link

In that case I suggest you watch and read more, in order to find out what actually happened in Amsterdam, so that you can give well-informed comments.

MaizieD Wed 13-Nov-24 13:55:51

Speaking of the Holocaust is no more, victim culture' than is speaking of slavery or the horrors of Partition in India, or any other vile thing that has happened between races in the world.

It was a terrible act and to imply that people of our generation are ill informed or ignorant of it is insulting. It figured hugely in Europe in the past WW2 era, with the Nuremburg trials and the establishment of Israel.

But when the government of Israel is doing essentially the same thing to the Palestinians, genocide, 80+ years later it is very hard to reconcile what they are doing now with what happened to them.

Anniebach Wed 13-Nov-24 13:56:26

The uTube link was well informed !

Iam64 Wed 13-Nov-24 17:11:14

It is imo impossible to defend the extreme bombing campaign, with so many killed, terrified, maimed and traumatised.
I can’t call it a Holocaust. Dreadful as the current Israeli government is, it isn’t seeking to wipe out an entire race, sling with others it sees as less than human, gypsies, people wit learning difficulties, homosexual men etc. It isn’t invading countries with a view to world dominationl

MaizieD Wed 13-Nov-24 17:26:31

Holocaust

noun

1) Great destruction resulting in the extensive loss of life, especially by fire.

2) The genocide of European Jews and other groups by the Nazis during World War II.

3) A massive slaughter.
