Or is it too awful to contemplate?

Macadia

Are woman ordering these blatant murders or is it just men?

Both men and women serve equally in the Israeli Army Macadia. As for who issues the order, no idea but I don’t see gender as relevant here.

Eloethan, the danger is that atrocity comes insidiously to begin with. Take the US under Trump for instance, he is clever enough to introduce his dictatorship by easy enough stages so his supporters are unaware of the direction he is going in.

Churchill was astute enough to understand where Hitler was going which is why Churchill did a lot to save this country being overrun by Nazis.

Caleo Sun 13-Apr-25 12:03:20

Palestinians are being wiped out, not with death camps and human ovens, but with starvation, landlessness, and epidemic. These are more insidious than what went on in Nazi Germany.

Also, the US, and we too, view Israel as the point of the sword that defends our dependence on the financial corporations that make for our economic growth.

"And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,. Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?"

Caleo - written 100 years ago, but some of the seeds of the situation were sown then.
I don't know what Yeats would have made of AI, internet & equal opps though - our 21c world wouldn't be civilisation as he would define it.

I would add, don't condemn marchers for Palestine unless they do something to deserve it. Sometimes on the forum they seem to be condemned just because they're protesting re Israels actions, which is their right in a free country.

valdavi Sun 13-Apr-25 12:17:00

Sorry the last bit wasnt to Caleoblush, but about what we can do to help the situation.

Caleo Sun 13-Apr-25 12:23:16

Valdavi, It is an amazing coincidence that, so long ago ,Yeats named Bethlehem which was where our Lord was born and that Bethlehem is now in Netanyahuland.

Oh, I'm so angry.

"Israeli air strike destroys part of last fully functional hospital in Gaza City"

"An Israeli air strike has destroyed part of al Ahli Arab Hospital, the last fully functional hospital in Gaza City.
Witnesses said the strike destroyed the intensive care and surgery departments of the hospital"

"Surrounding buildings, including St Philip's church, were also damaged, the diocese said.
It added that it was "appalled" at the bombing of the hospital "on the morning of Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week".

"Khalil Bakr told BBC Arabic's Gaza Lifeline programme that he and his three injured daughters had fled the hospital with only a couple of minutes to spare before it was bombed.
"It was terrifying," he said. "The whole situation was difficult because I have already been injured. And as for my three daughters, one had her leg amputated, the other had her hand amputated, and the third had her body full of platinum plates

He added: "Only two minutes separated us from death."

"UK Foreign Minister David Lammy said such "deplorable attacks must end", adding: "Israel's attacks on medical facilities have comprehensively degraded access to healthcare in Gaza."

We should not stand by any longer

Its on BBC news website.

There has been worse, worse will come.

However horrendous this is, it is not the Apocalypse

Allira Mon 14-Apr-25 11:17:29

This needs to end. We cannot enable it any longer. 😡

Smileless2012 Mon 14-Apr-25 11:18:28

But who can stop it Allira?

Allira Mon 14-Apr-25 11:41:07

Well, Trump's about as much use as a chocolate teapot. We know what his end game is unless he was bluffing. Who knows? Not even himself.

But isn't it the beginning? a lot of people think it is..

Allira Mon 14-Apr-25 13:39:49

The beginning of what?

Just because a lot of people think is is about something does not make it so.

or not so.. it's all speculation..

Wyllow3 Mon 14-Apr-25 14:58:35

Probably better to be practical and continue to describe both what is actually happening both day by day and then the bigger politics of what Netanyahu's regime is doing, the voices increasingly coming out from social media from within Palestine asking to be heard separate from Hamas, and how we might ask our own government to respond as well as keeping a sharp eye out for the USA's involvement.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 14-Apr-25 16:16:59

I do know that it tends to become an echo chamber, but is is astonishing the level of protest on Palestine's behalf going on throughout the world.

Mind you kill more Palestinians does not have quite the same ring does it😡

Maremia Mon 14-Apr-25 18:52:49

Don't know how it can be stopped, but bombing the last functioning hospital? Killing a child begging for help? I suppose if the IDF didn't have the weaponry? How much does the UK provide?

Wyllow3 Mon 14-Apr-25 19:00:57

It's sharing concerns and updates with others rather than an echo chamber - probably read by more than post, valuable in its own way.

Wyllow3 Mon 14-Apr-25 19:37:31

I thought the answer would be straightforward Maremia but what we do is licence what is to me a huge amount of arms but I don't know who pays for them. Maybe someone else is better than me on this. We have stopped a proportion of them under the Labour Government presumably those that are likely to do most harm to civilians? But its like we are de facto giving permission on the arms sales.

A notable change has been that after the bombardment of Gaza had gone on and on, Labour agreed the UK would join calling out Netanyahu for war crimes under the ICC.

We do give very substantial aid to Gaza "For 2024/25, the UK has committed £129 million".

Policy is still a 2 State solution which - well - is it possible anymore? In theory, we were arming Israel for it to protect itself against Hamas and others but supporting Palestinians through aid.

Israelis are being refused entry to The Maldives.

A Muslim country making a stand. I suspect that there will be others.

Little Malek born a year ago. Lost his life yesterday on his way to his routine vaccination with his dad.

Israeli drones.

valdavi Wed 16-Apr-25 20:37:46

Those drones must be absolutely terrifying. & there's nowhere in Gaza that could be a relatively safe area for pregnant women & mums with babies. They're all jammed in there in the line of fire. It's so horrible.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 17-Apr-25 07:24:20

Members of the Board of Deputies have joined many Jews in distancing themselves from the Israeli government.

They can no longer sit by and watch genocide taking place. The violence in Gaza and the West Bank has become unbearable.

“Israel’s soul is being ripped out.”

At last!

BBC News - Members of British Jewish body condemn Israel's Gaza offensive
www.bbc.com/news/articles/c77ndzkz778o
I have just been reading about this WWM2. I find that I don't want to take a side in this conflict as neither Israel nor Hamas get my support. However, killing aid workers and civilians under the pretence that they may be hiding terrorists is wrong.Hiding the Red Crescent bodies to cover up the act is an admission of guilt by the Israelis who were responsible. That is not a justifiable act defending Israel but a war crime. The line has to be drawn.
