Where's your "50 towns" come from? News to me.
Why should victims of abuse from white people be ignored in general measures?
(apart from unsubstantiated claims by GB news in January, not backed up by statistics)

Waiting to hear what Maggie Oliver has to say about this.

I think the breadth and scope of what the Labour Party announced in terms of child protection, for victims of abuse to claim injury claims, shifting the burden of proof from survivors to defendants, for far greater greater police powers, full understanding of ethnicity and abuse,
is being overlooked in this discussion.
I won’t attempt to summarise it, here is the two page read
www.gov.uk/government/speeches/tackling-child-sexual-abuse-and-exploitation-update
Ethnicity and abuse ? Abuse is abuse and ethnicity shouldn’t enter into it at all.
Except Anna8 the ethnicity of the majority of men in the so-called grooming gangs is an issue. Yes most abusers are white men and peadophiles find organisations where they flourish and find each other
I keep returning to how we investigate and make sense of the extent of csa, most of it involving men from all backgrounds
Elon will no doubt swoop over in a Batman cloak and rescue people.

I think it was a real mistake for Jess Phillips to make this announcement in the very last session before the Commons went on holiday. Her statement uwas far more complex than has been misrepresented and subsequently government time has been wasted clarifying it.
I can remember the Labour MP Naz Shah in the last decade condemning investigations into Muslim grooming gangs as it was bad for " diversity". This obsession with political correctness / diversity meant the police and social services were afraid to investigate grooming gangs in Rotherham, for fear of being called racist.
Now it is being called "afraid to upset community relations" by the sounds of things.
Known and undisputed for years, Cumbrianmale56, condemned with others, the figures who called them out known, a 7 year Jay enquiry on it -
...the discussion here is on complex territory of how to deal with those left who historically had the same view and slowed down investigations, and of course how we should now stop and prosecute child abusers, police, victims support - read the thread and read the source of this discussion which are proposals to move on.

Now it is being called wrong.
(I mean wrong to hold back on prosecutions of any child abuser)

FFS. Have you read the Hansard article. If not, do!
You might learn something.
A public enquiry won’t get to the people/ services who are at the coal face. These are the people who are dealing with this horror every day.
Added to that there is every possibility that the above won’t be called to a public enquiry.

Maggie Oliver has stated publicly and on many occasions that the Police have never kept records of the ethnicity of grooming gang members. She always said this is wrong.
I'm sick of hearing about her tbh. She seems to have ended up being some sort of champion of the right wing. Surely other intelligent people are on board with this? Nazir Afsal for one.
Sarah Champion, Labour MP for Rotherham since 2012, always active.
Her Facebook page entry from yesterday:
The Government has now published a progress update on tackling child sexual abuse, outlining their plans to implement the recommendations made in the Independent Inquiry on Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA).
The national inquiry shone a light on the suffering caused to victims and survivors of child sexual abuse, as well as the failure of institutions to protect them.
For years, I have been campaigning with courageous victims, survivors and constituents to see the inquiry’s recommendations accepted, but was met with broken promises, excuses and delays from previous governments.
The update shows how the Government will be enacting several recommendations immediately, as well as a longer-term plan to implement the rest.
This is a huge credit to all those who have tirelessly campaigned for action on IICSA, we’re nearly there!
However, the work isn’t done yet. There are places the Government can and should be going further.
I demand that all 20 recommendations (Jay report)are implemented in full, because now is not the time to do things by halves.
I will be acting as a critical friend to the Government, developing legislation and working with Ministers, to push them to go further and ensure they do justice to every single recommendation.

What a dreadful thing to say!!!
Maggie Oliver has done and is still doing (through The Maggie Oliver Foundation) more for these poor little girls than anyone.
She has worked tirelessly to try to get these vile men convicted and imprisoned for their disgusting crimes. Police, social workers, teachers and others in authority turned a blind eye but she never gave up.
She resigned from the Police in disgust but has never stopped caring for these girls.
I have taken a screenshot of your comments about her.

Only if they record the ethnicity of all child abuse crimes not just grooming gangs
to get an overall picture relating to different offences.
an accurate picture would be helpful in terms of tackling crime, but also disprove myths like that spread by Braverman in January 2025 who said nearly all grooming gangs were Pakistani, whereas a police chiefs report said
Most grooming gang offences carried out by white men, police chiefs say

We must be kind to members who post this shite.
It comes from a place of ignorance.
We must pity them. Not easy, I know 🤷♀️

The Telegraph said it, Trevor Phillips said it and posters on here are saying it. a reason to go softly softly on the issue.
This thread is getting personal and nasty. Ignorance? pity?
This is not a discussion, and I really can't be bothered. GN is not what it was.
What is there in what Jess Phillips said that indicated "going softly on the issue?"
Hansard text is available to quote which bits indicate that.
