The O/P read (in part)

"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the population of Gaza will be displaced to the south after his security cabinet approved an expanded military operation in the enclave that a minister described as a plan to “conquer” the territory.

The vote on Sunday came hours after the military said it would mobilize tens of thousands of reservists, strengthening its capacity to operate in the besieged Palestinian territory.

“One thing will be clear: there will be no in-and-out,” Netanyahu said in a Monday video message posted on X. “We’ll call up reserves to come, hold territory — we’re not going to enter and then exit the area, only to carry out raids afterward. That’s not the plan. The intention is the opposite.”

We now have the aid crisis at the focus of world wide attention.

I’m sad to see the expansion into the West Bank and think it would have been best to concentrate on Gaza and the mission there and let the West Bank be for now.Israel works with the PA to root out terrorist factions in their midst and that should continue without the settlers muddying the waters and getting aggressive.
Crowds ransacked a UN building housing food supplies which is understandable if it’s there and not being handed out.

Jeremy Corbyn has worked towards a Palistinian peace treaty for many years.
As Labour leader he recruited thousands of new members but he was constantly vilified by the uk media and driven out of politics as a pariah. I never understood why.
He was a man of peace in the Middle East and I wouldn’t have been unhappy for him to have been PM.

I joined the Labour Party in 1962, left the party when he served
his second term as leader, joined when he stood down,
He delivered the worse defeat since 1935

I don't think he lost the election because of Palestine tho. It was before October 23 and people less engaged. Yes he was vilified on his far left platform of economic and ideological measures for a variety of reasons.

Yes Oreo - I agree. The regime in Israel looks like its "sneaking it in" when the aid issue is engaging the world.

To be quite Frank, I think that this sort of behaviour has been going on for years, but for whatever reason the world has turned a blind eye to the injustice and violence being meted out to the Palestinians.

Now with the genocide, the Israeli government and is supporters like the extreme settlers are being much more closely scrutinised, and their behaviour is there for us all to see and be appalled by.

“Israel may take Gaza, but it will cost them their souls”

One of saddest and truest comments I have read.

Anniebach Thu 29-May-25 16:06:04

Really, death threat ?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 29-May-25 16:10:59

Footage of a young man being shot as he went for a food parcel.

God this is diabolical, it is like a real life Squid game.

Tiny little green shoot.

Haaretz reporting that Israel is minded to accept the peace plan put forward by USA?

Oh please let this be so.

Maremia Thu 29-May-25 18:03:03

How much will it take?

Maremia Thu 29-May-25 18:06:16

It's in the Guardian online. Ten living hostages, for 60 day ceasefire

Whitewavemark2 Thu 29-May-25 18:13:36

Thanks. The trouble is that there is such little trust. But let’s hope for the best.

Any terms laid down about who and how aid provided in this period? The USA want their Foundation, but it's tied to there only being 4 distribution centres and most of the population removed the the south - and they have to raise the means of providing it unless they can work with the UN, who want far more distribution points and no mercenaries.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 29-May-25 19:35:39

Someone said that it suits Israel to have the distribution centres all in south Gaza at the border, as the entire population could then be “encouraged” to leave.

Maremia Thu 29-May-25 21:10:39

Leave, and go where? Pushed into the water? There is nowhere for them to go? And why should they go?

Oreo Thu 29-May-25 23:07:21

More to the point, no other country wants them.

Oreo Thu 29-May-25 23:08:35

Israel don’t think hamas will agree to the new agreement for a ceasefire and ten hostage releases.

The doctor that gave evidence yesterday said that he’d seen children shot in the head sad. The account he gave was heartbreaking.

Anniebach Fri 30-May-25 01:23:25

early part of last year I read a post on a thread , a doctor said
he had operated on a little girl half her face had been blown off and he had amputated both her legs , without any pain relief, !

There is no Palestine as a state. This is not nations and finance. This is horror, starvation and murder. You would think that in this century, men would stop acting as they did 2,000 uears ago. Bit no ! Fail ! Still murderers. Still greed. Indispicable horrid evil dictators. Where are the ladies in this? Children are dying. Did they ask for this?

Macadia Fri 30-May-25 03:09:23

Women need to step up and take over and put these men in a deep dark inescapable hole.

Macadia Fri 30-May-25 03:12:07

Its not lack of trust. Its a lack of women in leadership positions..Men are utterly stupid insane and a detriment to all of humanity.

Macadia Fri 30-May-25 03:26:42

*most men. Not all men.
