Farage will have no more answer than this or the previous government.
Until the conditions in the countries that people leave improve, nothing will change. The largest number of people coming are from Afghanistan. Do you have an answer to the Taliban?
The first safe country option does not exist since Brexit when the UK left the Dublin III agreement. Who was responsible for Brexit? Farage, Cameron, Johnson and the people who voted for something they didn’t understand the implications of.
This has been explained over and over again.
You are seeking a solution from the man who caused the problem.
Reform would have to rip up the UK’s Human Rights Act (which protects all our rights) and draw up new legislation. It would be subject to the usual very long Parliamentary process. He would never get it through the House of Lords.
Reform has no peers. I wrote about this on another thread and am not going to repeat myself but you can read what I said here:
www.gransnet.com/forums/news_and_politics/1351658-Why-do-so-many-people-support-Reform-and-Tommy-Robinson?pg=2
Farage would find governing a zillion times harder than showboating on a stage of fireworks or ranting on GB News.

No returns of migrants to France yesterday or today.
(173 Posts)Owing to last-minute legal challenges and protests from charities.
Seems it’s Starmer’s turn now to sign a deal that literally ‘hasn’t got off the ground’.
Yet I hear there’s an incoming flight to the UK from France so Macron must be pleased.

This whole boat marlarky is just a big fat mess!
I’d like to have full details of Reforms pledge to stop them all in two weeks!
I could guess, but might be barred for suggesting things! It became worse because of Brexit. When we were in the EU it was much easier to return migrants .Can’t see Reform being much better unless they copy Trump.
Yes. But no one mentions the Dublin agreement do they
?
Oh they do MayBee70 on every single migrant thread…
There are other new parties to try out. What has Farage ever done to convince you that when in power he will do anything for you?
He doesn't even attend PMQs, to support his voters in Clacton. He lied about who paid for that house.
He took the money, but did nothing for the fishermen in the EU.
The leader he most admires is Putin
He bullied a Jewish lad while still at school.
That all makes you trust him with your vote?

Was it mentioned in the run up to the referendum?
Can't remember what was the Dublin agreement. You are keen to tell us. I am listening. Other just scroll by, if they so wish.

No idea if it was mentioned on GN as I wasn’t a member, it was definitely mentioned in the debates and interviews I listened to in the run up to the referendum.
It’s all going as well as can be expected…. Or as well as we’ve come to expect at least. 🤦♀️

Now that Israel’s actions in Gaza have been declared a genocide, Trump should be refused entry to the UK.
I wish I lived in a world where that would happen.

Refugees who have turned up their noses at living in France or any of the safe countries they passed through.
That’s simply not true, despite Farage and our media wishing to paint it this way.
Many many other countries are having influxes of “boats”

“The Dublin Regulation is EU law that determines which EU member state is responsible for examining an asylum application, aiming to prevent multiple applications by the same person and ensure one state is accountable. An asylum seeker can be sent back to the country where they were first fingerprinted or entered to have their claim processed, though there are exceptions for family reunion. The UK is no longer bound by this regulation, having left the EU. “
The UK was a net beneficiary of Dublin III. It returned more people than it accepted.
This from 2016 when the UK voted Leave.
The European Commission is contemplating various proposals for reform of the Dublin system. Options include the introduction of a corrective fairness mechanism designed to redistribute asylum seekers from “overburdened” Member States, taking into account population and GDP.
For the UK, which receives around 0.6 asylum applications per 1,000 residents (below the EU average of 2.48 and far below, eg, Hungary (16.6), Austria (9.44) and Germany (5.31)), this would almost certainly mean taking in a greater share of asylum claimants. Were it to remain in the EU, the UK would be able to opt out of these measures and continue to take advantage of the existing Dublin III rules. Were it to withdraw from the EU, however, the UK would probably face a starker take-it-or-leave-it choice: either the new system, or no transfers at all.

Now that the UK is outside the EU, it can no longer return asylum applicants to the first EU country of arrival as it could under the Dublin Regulation, which ceased to apply on 1 January 2021.

Farage has blamed the Tory Party’s negotiation of the exit terms.
Now Mr Rowback is welcoming Tories into Reform having said in April 2025: “Reform have no intention in forming coalitions with the Tories at any level because the Tories broke Britain nationally for 14 years."
Today, Marie Caulfield’s defection makes the 13st Tory MP or former Tory MP to join the Party. Farage enjoys a frequent party name change, doesn't he? How about ReTory? Or seeing that "reform" is an anagram of "former" what about FormerTory or even BackDoor?
No returns of migrants to France yesterday or today.
Is anyone surprised?
All in none out.
I think you're right
Jennifer Eccles - well said. As I keep asking - what’s wrong with France? It’s a perfectly decent, safe country with bags of space for immigrants.
There is nothing wrong with France if you don’t mind having to learn another language to a fairly high standard when you may already speak English, or have family or friends in the uk.
Or they may have heard we are decent people ( if only they knew) or possibly because unlike most of Europe, we dont have ID cards making it easier to get jobs.
Or the people smugglers market the UK as a fine place to come to. Certainly makes sense if they are getting thousands £££ from each person. Which they woukd not get if they stayed in France or elsewhere in Europe.
As for farage stopping out the boats in two weeks ha ha ha ha, 🤣
Think we have heard that before from his good friend and mentor Trump regardless Ukraine.
It was never going to happen. It was announced to appease people. Too many legal aid lawyers, charities etc with vested interests, they won’t allow it because, if they did, what work would they have.

And as I keep explaining, France doesn’t have a black economy, we do, a huge one 😡

Well said, unfortunately no matter how many times it is said those against these people continue to ask the question, I’m not sure what is so difficult to understand. Of course the other myth is that they are coming here to get benefits.
Farage and his ilk have no real answers to the problem , which is worldwide by the way due to wars and persecution going on all over the place.
Desperate people willing to risk their lives to get a better life either escaping war, persecution or poverty.
Yes it’s a problem for the country but it’s not the only problem and it’s not the root of all the other problems, dare I say 14 years of Tory destruction of public services and BREXIT have a good deal to do with everything including the migrant crises.

It is true if they have passed through several countries and paid gangs to get here on a dinghy.
I responded to a question from Tiggy and thought my explanation was straightforward. Yet the same question keeps being asked, why is it so hard to understand.
As for numbers we have fewer immigrants than most other western countries.
Thanks anyway Bibetybop.
A combination of us being a small country and difficult to reach.
