Sadly, yes. Wrong way driving is a TikTok challenge, can you believe it? It needs closing down in my humble opinion.

This was two weeks ago.
One of the teenagers in that car has apparently been killed in the incident this weekend.

Do teenage boys - it's always boys - possess minds? I think not.

We have these groups of teenage morons, one of them (amazingly) passes a driving test and immediately the gang piles into a wreck of a car and set off to go pure crazy.

I'd suggest that those of the male gender not be allowed on the roads until they reach sensible middle age.......but I suppose that would be trampling on their 'yoomin rites, like'

It's massive suicide.

When I was a teenager in the 1960s the thrill for teenage boys was to "do a ton" 100mph on a motorbike. I heard of several who died. They killed themselves but didn't take others with them.

This current TikTok challenge is another level of stupidity altogether.

Think we should follow Australia, where there are restrictions on new young drivers having other young people in the car, apart from siblings.

Just seems very sensible to me.

The perpetrators in these two recent crashes are dead I believe so the factors that led to them committing such appalling crimes cannot be exposed, but there needs to be a widespread enquiry into the causes of such hideous beliefs and the gang mentality behind it.
As always, where are the parents of these feral children?

Even before these teenage social media encouraged stunts, there has always been a steady stream of young men and teenagers killing themselves recklessly driving. They own an old banger or borrow a parents car and show off to friends then go off the road and drive into trees or go down embankments or into rivers.

Usually they only kill and/or injure themselves and their friends, but these last two accidents have had innocent casualties as well. Two policemen killed in England, 3/4 people seriously injured in Ireland.

But this sort of reckless driving down roads has always been with us. 45 years ago three youths, chased by the police drove the wrong way down a dual carriageway and hit a car containing a family. The two children in the back were killed, the parents in the front permanently disabled.

One of the children was a playgtound friend of DS. The effect of these accidents cause ripples that spread far beyond the families of those directly involved. DS was profoundly affected by this accident and I sometimes wonder if it is entirely coincidental that my DDiL experienced a similar tragedy which deeply affected her.

We know, now, that the part of the brain that assesses risk doesn't develop until the early twenties, so we understand why young people, especially males, indulge in risk taking behaviours.
This has been recorded throughout history.
Sadly, I have no suggestions as to how we might stop this. Any impositions would, likely, be ignored by those at whom these might be targeted.

I was talking to MrJ about this rash behaviour yesterday, social media has a lot to answer for.

This dangerous driving seems to be increasing. In recent months, We have had more than one fatal car crash in our town caused by deliberate speeding and dangerous driving,

My dad was in the Police service for over 30 years. I worked alongside officers many times. I was shaken, felt tearful listening to the Chief Constable of the force who lost two officers in this senseless crash yesterday.

Should Insurance companies supported by legislation prevent young drivers from carrying young passengers. Say under 25 years? Whilst brains don’t fully develop to 25, ask my ten year old grandson, he’d say the tick tick challenge behaviour is wrong. We can’t excuse this dangerous idiotic behaviour because young men always take risks. Do we need risky hobbies like rock climbing supervised by the army? I know expensive ….

That is true, but there are also a lot of good things on it too. There are people using TikTok for all sorts of things, many of which are useful and informative. And if you ban it, another similar site will just pop up in its place.

These are stolen cars, the young men involved probably don’t even have a license.
In Ireland and here the boys were linked with the traveller community,travellers often drive from a very early age.
An 11 year old boy from the traveller community was caught driving a BMW X5 towing a stolen caravan on the M1!

The those killed in Ireland were, I believe, fourteen and younger.And with so many young people living with, and off, their parents well in to their thirties, and being classed as children until the age of eighteen it seems an appropriate description.

I meant to add my thoughts prayers and condolences to the Police Officers killed and prayers for the innocent family in Ireland who were looking forward to a wedding here in the UK.

So very sad.

Grannybags,I never know what goes on in the minds of immature young lads, brought up 2 and have grandsons,they just aren't responsible yet ,they are looking for approval from their peers I expect, its part of growing up, stricter parenting?,knowing where your kids get too? Hard to do as they are very resourceful and you just have to do your best, so tragic for all the families

Young men do naturally seem to crave danger so I wonder if Society's modern inclination to keep children "risk free" all the time is making this worse. Perhaps we should be encouraging more "dangerous" activities but under controlled conditions. My DS's reckless tendencies were dispelled by 5 years in the armed forces .
