ninathenana Sun 01-Nov-15 11:27:01

I presume your thanking me for the heads up as to the fact we have some very welcome male members. I don't understand the confused emote.
Sorry to say I don't understand a lot of your posts Lucky thlconfused thlgrin

rosesarered Sun 01-Nov-15 12:37:01

And so say all some of us! grin

ninathenana Sun 01-Nov-15 12:55:35

roses when I read that in "I'm on" the word 'all' wasn't crossed out. Which alters the meaning and makes it cleverly funny thlgrin

Ana Sun 01-Nov-15 13:07:22

'Away fro Keyboard' apparently! LuckyDucky certainly knows a lot of these strange (to me, anyway) acronyms - must be down with the kids at the duck house...thlhmm

Bellanonna Sun 01-Nov-15 13:14:57

I get the feeling that a complaint is possible, but that it's neither heinous nor tautological. Could be wrong. That's why I posted earlier about trying to be kinder ( myself). However if offence not taken I'm happy to go along with the banter. OP seems to take things in good part confused

Bellanonna Sun 01-Nov-15 13:18:02

Oh yes. I thought it might be away from Knightsbridge. I, too, thought LD had a wide repertoire of acronyms, and penchant for emotis. Yes, probably picked up from DGC.

LuckyDucky Sun 01-Nov-15 14:20:44

OK bella what is OP?
nina you're probably in the majority, unfortunately.
Praps I'm punching posting above my weight sad

I'm afk smile

Ana Sun 01-Nov-15 14:29:29

No you're not, you're on here, posting...thlhmm

Alea Sun 01-Nov-15 14:36:19

LuckyDucky
Yesterday, 09.44, first line of my post
OP(original post/poster
Simples.

Now perhaps you would be kind enough to explain what you meant by ON??

ninathenana Sun 01-Nov-15 14:40:10

Well, at least the OP (original poster) FYI Lucky thlwink doesn't appear to be taking offence.
There is certainly none meant by me or I'm sure anyone else.

LuckyDucky Sun 01-Nov-15 14:43:56

Thank you ninat that's exactly what I mean. Must proof read my threads.

Also, thank you to those who contributed smile I know I've dillied and dallied. I'm afk for half of each day. sadAnd, not the same part either.

Anyone know where "dillied" means or its origins? Hope it's not rudeblush

Ana Sun 01-Nov-15 14:48:46

You don't need to keep thanking contributors, LuckyDucky, and I don't think any of the rest of us is glued to our computers/devices all day long. You do seem to keep saying you're 'afk' when you're obviously not, though...confused

Bellanonna Sun 01-Nov-15 14:51:54

You have an unusual sense of humour LD which certainly leaves me confused most of the time

Alea Sun 01-Nov-15 14:59:32

Quite surreal, Bellanonna I share your confused

"Dilly dally" simply means to waste time, procrastinate, mess about instead of getting on with something.
The origin is presumably connected with "delay" so nothing blush making , except not knowing something in common parlance.

LuckyDucky Tue 03-Nov-15 08:31:35

That's a shame bella
Alea je m'en fich

Alea Tue 03-Nov-15 08:34:14

??
Do you mean Je m'en fiche ?

Pourquoi, alors?

Alea Tue 03-Nov-15 08:45:50

Anyone know where "dillied" means or its origins? Hope it's not rude blush

You did ask, LuckyDucky, how rude to dismiss my reply of Sunday 14.59 albeit in inaccurately attempted French

annodomini Tue 03-Nov-15 09:44:52

Do you think there's any chance of getting Susie Dent (of Countdown fame) to do a web chat? She would certainly be overwhelmed with questions.

HQ, are you reading this?

Alea Tue 03-Nov-15 10:08:40

Could be interesting, anno, although at the risk of sounding like Maggie Smith's dowager alter ego, many questions about origins and definitions are easily accessed in a dictionary - or for those who prefer, online!

Elegran Tue 03-Nov-15 16:56:39

To find the origin (of any word or phrase) just put "dilly dally" and "origin" into Google and you get "early 17th century: reduplication of dally."

Easy peasy.

There is of course the Marie LLoyd Music Hall song but "dilly dally2 was already in use well befor ethat.
