Agiler?

I am playing online scrabble with my DD and wanted to send the word agiler - as in more agile. The programme will not let me send it (which is a pity as it carries loads-a-points!) as it says it is an invalid word. Wiktionary says it is valid.

Over to you!

Ive had the same problems not having words accepted, its because the majority of scrabble games follow an American dictionary not the English!

Not sure of it's validity but I would't use it.
More agile sounds better IMHO

grannylyn65 Mon 02-Jan-17 13:28:48

That would be two words!!

trisher Mon 02-Jan-17 13:38:29

I would use 'more agile' . Can only compare it to 'mobile'- I would use 'more mobile'
The comparatives don't seem right
agile, agiler. agilest?
mobile, mobiler, mobilest?

I thought there was a rule that only one syllable words can be 'er'd eg fit, fitter, quick, quicker, sad sadder, unless they ended in a 'y' this easy, easier, happy, happier, hungry, hungrier.

Otherwise it's a more, such as frightened, more frightened, agile, more agile.

Or did I just make that up? wink

this thus

We're talking a game of scrabble not an English lesson!

This is Pedants Corner not Soop's Kitchen, so if you can't stand the heat.....grin

That was the missing whatsit!

Luckygirl Mon 02-Jan-17 15:59:29

And they let me have obit, but not obits -??? confused

I have conceded agiler - but won the game anyway!!

I play Classic Words free against the computer. It has a dictionary option. You can choose fromm a selection, I chose the English/USA option so I can spell words either way eg color, colour. Have a look I your game settings and see if you have a dictionary selection .

Luckygirl Mon 02-Jan-17 16:38:16

How do you get into that hilda? It is telling me I can only do it on my smartphone.

Jalima Mon 02-Jan-17 16:55:38

I want to be agiler so it must be correct

Jalima Mon 02-Jan-17 16:56:18

sorry, I could mean more agile

Whatever, I want to be it.

Luckygirl Mon 02-Jan-17 17:14:09

You and me both!

rosesarered Mon 02-Jan-17 17:29:10

Not sure Lucky but it just doesn't sound right does it, agiler?

Jalima Mon 02-Jan-17 18:07:56

I don't think it is right, but it is going to be my new buzz word grin

Jalima Mon 02-Jan-17 18:08:16

ps - every day in every way I am going to become agiler

Ana Mon 02-Jan-17 18:09:52

Actually, that sentence sounds better if you say 'more agiler'...grin

trisher Mon 02-Jan-17 18:41:22

The one syllable thing is a complete fallacy - what about lively, livelier liveliest ?

Untidy, untidier, untidiest? Must be loads more.

Ana Mon 02-Jan-17 18:46:17

If you read Anya's post properly, trisher, you'll see that words ending in 'y' are treated differntly.

Ana Mon 02-Jan-17 18:46:42

'differently'

Jalima Mon 02-Jan-17 19:49:32

differenter?
