Well, we collected her this afternoon, but she`s awfully timid, has spent ages hiding behind the fridge freezer, came out for food, then cowered in the bathroom, behind the toilet. We`re not forcing her, she`ll come out in her own time.

Almost ready to sketch Mia's portrait. grin

Fell out with her earlier. She went outside and disappeared for an hour and a half, then came in, so I picked her up, saying "Where the heck have you been all this time?", then, feeling cold and wet, I realised that her feet and back of her back legs were covered in black mud, which on a white cat looked even blacker! After going upstairs to change my tee-shirt, I decided to wash her feet off, to which she had extremely strong objections. After going back upstairs to change yet ANOTHER tee-shirt, I left her to it. She`s now lovely and clean, and asking to go out again, but she aint going!!

I took on a cat that had been living with an old lady, and was becoming a bit of a danger, twining herself round the woman's legs and so on. The cat had never been outside, and was now five years old... the sky terrified her!

Slowly, slowly she accustomed herself to the great outside, (and my scratches healed) but she was only ever happy there on a running lead -- on the odd occasions when she slipped away she would be found in a nearby garden, terrified and hiding under things!

But my agorophobic Siamese queen did learn that my lap was her natural place to be... and she was a companion for another fifteen years.

Oh dear, number...I've made a right pig's ear of Mia's portrait. I'm smothered in paint and the portrait is sitting in the bath...I've given it a shower. Seriously! I have to admit that I'm not good enough to paint a white cat. And now I feel awful because I made a promise that I cannot keep. I wonder whether you would be happier with a sketch of Mia...the pose being the one on her back? Please let me know. sad

numberplease Wed 21-Nov-12 16:32:24

Don`t fret over it Soop, and I`ll be happy with whatever you decide to do. The last thing I want is for you to get upset over it, I`m sure that Mia will survive without gazing in her supercilious manner, at her portrait as she passes it! xx

Mr soop has suggested that I use a different medium. This will be a first. As usual, eager to get started. grin

Do you mean instead of water colours?

soop Thu 22-Nov-12 11:20:06

number Mr soop and I are to have a partners' meeting re the Mia portrait. Goodness only knows what we'll decide. I'll try anything to keep my promise. smile

I`m beginning to doubt the wisdom of taking on a white cat! I know she`ll wash herself, but nearly every time she goes out for a play, she comes in looking a right little scruff, I don`t know WHAT she gets up to out there! grin

feetlebaum; we used to have Burmese cats, but I always wanted a Siamese. Not like other cats are they? My whippet is a cross between a cat and a dog [behaviour wise] and a good substitute. I found the people who bred them just bred Siamese and Burmese thinner and thinner, though, and not to my taste.

number sweetie pie, if I'd had a photo of a messy Mia, I would have finished by now. Hate to say, but I'm sketching number four. I cannot fail...I must succeed...woop woop! grin

Marelli Thu 22-Nov-12 18:17:48

number, my Daisy is a white long-hair......slugs, sticky-willies, bits of twig......all have ended up on our bed! And without fail, if it's raining during the night, she will jump up on the bed and stand with dripping fur, on the pillow next to a sleeping DH - never does it to me though grinwink!

whenim64 Thu 22-Nov-12 18:50:19

Marelli we had a white dog who would jump in muddy puddles and always had a tide mark half way up her body! grin

Glad I`m not the only one with a mucky pet then! At least she can`t do that in the night Marelli, we don`t have a cat flap, and so far, she`s not been out overnight.
