I'm horribly upset, I may even be harbouring slightly unreasonable feelings towards DH's sister.

As some of you may know I'm in the middle of a three month trip. I had arranged for my cat to go into a very swish, well run Cattery for the duration. No one in DH's family would ever countenance paying for boarding a pet, they've only ever had cats and another family member takes over the feeding while the owner is away.

Anyhow DH "let slip" the cost of boarding to his sister who was shocked and annoyed that I hadn't asked her to have Molly. SIL insisted that she would look after my cat along with her own, my objections (her cat is a kitten mine is 12 years old and timid) were dismissed. DH saw no reason why not and against all my instincts I eventually agreed as it was a kind offer, well meant.

I've just been told that three weeks ago my poor wee cat escaped from SIL's house and hasn't been seen since. I had stressed the importance of ensuring that she be kept indoors at least until she was settled and happy and I do feel that my SIL's attitude was a little cavalier. Having said that she is very upset and has made efforts to find Molly including going to my house 12 miles from hers and asking my neighbours to look out for her.

I'm distraught at the thought of Molly being hungry or hurt. I know cats will try to get home but she's elderly and has never been a hunter.

I'm expressing my feelings here as I can't say too much to DH as he now feels guilty for persuading me against my better judgement to leave Molly with his sister.

He feels sad too, he isn't heartless but she's really my cat.

Baubles that is good news. We used to take our cat to relatives when we went on holiday and he was really good at knowing where he was and coming back to that place very quickly.

Fantastic news. Aren't they strange little beings, cats. If only she could talk. Perhaps she tootled back to your house and thought, 'darn it, there's no one home, better go back to the hotel'.

Good news, Baubles. Cats are so good at looking out for themselves.

When we were little, a stray cat came to stay but eventually disappeared again. Months later, when my mum was out with the pram, containing baby sister, she recognised the cat on the other side of the road and called to him. He walked home with her and stayed for the rest of his long life. He knew when he was well off!

I do love a happy ending!smile
Our cat [who hardly went out and was old] vanished one day and a month later was found living in a cottage about a mile away. They always seem to land on their feet don't they? Some cats have a great 'home locator' in their heads and some have none at all and soon lose their bearings.

So glad to hear she's back Baubles DD's cat disappeared for 6 weeks about 6 years ago. When she came back she was like a little skeleton and had obviously been shut in somewhere. She's not strayed since!
