It happened suddenly and horribly from epilepsy and whilst very upset I've had to explain to everyone I meet when walking my other dog.
I've been gob-smacked by the people who say they're sorry then ask if I'll get another. Even more tactless was the man when I rang to change my insurance, who finished with, "Have a great day!"

I am so sorry for your loss watermeadow.

I am so sorry- words cannot describe how I feel about what that insurance man said to you. Give your other dog a big hug from me. He/she will miss his mate.

I understand well how upset you must feel watermeadow. Losing a dog so suddenly is horrible. They are part of the family. People can be quite unthinking, like the insurance man who has probably been trained to wish his customers a great day, not taking need of the circumstances. flowers

My heart goes out to you watermeadowflowers. My dog was my constant companion and when she died (also unexpected) it was as if a good friend had been taken from me.

Three years on, I still think of her, and looking up on a cloudy day, I can make a picture of her face from the clouds - she's still watching over me!

flowers and a little (((hug))) I'm so sorry their love is completely unconditional isn't it.

Unless you are a pet owner, I don't think you do not fully understand the devastation of losing your animal. I have broken my heart over our lost dogs but am thankful every day for what they have brought and bring to us as a family. My heart goes out to you water meadow, stay strong and your other dog will help keep you going.

Oh water meadow I'm so sorry to hear you have lost your much loved pet. Sometimes people who have not had the great privelege of having a dog can be insensitive as they just don't know how hard it is to lose them. Hope you find some comfort in your memories.

I'm so sorry, it's awful to lose a beloved pet. flowers

I had to say goodbye to my darling little cat on Monday. We knew she had a severe heart defect when we adopted her as a rescue cat at nine weeks and we kept her going for 5.5yrs but my heart is broken. My eyes fill with tears whenever I think of her. We've always had cats but I didn't think it was possible to miss a pet so much. She was like a shooting star, burning briefly but oh so brightly.

There is still a big hole in our life from losing one of our dogs a few months ago. Such a difficult decision to let him go. I feel for you, but try and remember the good times and how much love you had.

I'm so sorry for your loss watermeadow. We lost our wee guy so suddenly just before Christmas, so it's still pretty raw. Some people can be incredibly insensitive. I know it's shocking when it happens so quickly. Big hugs

baubles Fri 15-Apr-16 23:16:19

I'm sorry watermeadow, it is really hard to lose a pet particularly so suddenly and unexpectedly.

Indinana Fri 15-Apr-16 23:35:12

Oh I'm so sorry to hear of your sad loss watermeadow. And so upset for you at the gross insensitivity of the fellow at the insurance company. I hope he realised afterwards how totally inappropriate his remark was and will remember in future to be more careful.
flowers and (((((hugs))))) for you to help you through the coming days and weeks.

I know from experience the sadness and devastation of losing a beloved pet. Sorry isn't a strong enough word is it? I know all the things you'll miss but try to feel glad that you did have those things. You will have some lovely happy, funny memories to keep. xxxxxxxx

Witzend Sat 16-Apr-16 08:48:05

I am so sorry - losing a beloved dog is awful. Yes, I remember people asking when I was going to get another, as if I'd just had the telly nicked or something, Some people just don't have a clue, do they? xx

watermeadow Sat 16-Apr-16 08:56:04

Thank you all so much for your kind words.
It's good that we can share each other's sorrow. Hugs back to everyone who is grieving for a beloved pet.

whitewave Sat 16-Apr-16 09:11:28

Oh watermeadow it is one of the worst things. We lost our dog in 8th February 2009 - he is never forgotten. We do have another dearest Cairn but our Westie holds a special place in our hearts.

Iam64 Sat 16-Apr-16 21:33:50

Sending sincere condolences on your loss. It's over three years since our much loved oldest dog died. Dogs are family aren't they, to be mourned x
