Morning all.

Clutching at straws here, but I have a very poorly cat and wondered if any of you have dealt with the same issue.

She has been retching/gagging since Sunday evening and until yesterday was also flicking her tongue in and out.

Monday we went to the vet and she had exploratories done.

Her gut was inflamed so they operated on her abdomen, but found nothing.

She came home last night and drank some water, but not eaten.

She's on two meds - one anti-inflammatory and Ranittidene (sp?) as she is full of wind.

She spends her time hiding quietly in a corner and wants to be on her own (very out of character, but understandable at the moment).

She is still doing mini-retches, almost like an unproductive burp.

I slept downstairs with her last night and she had a few little wanders around and then settled down again.

Any ideas as to what may be causing this or what else to do? The vet's on standby to readmit her, but he doesn't have a clue as to the cause.

Help please!

I've been trying to post for ages. Had to switch to desktop site as didn't want you to think I wasn't interested! I was glad to hear the wee thing sounds like she's rallying and that the vets are being kind to her.

Squiffy, I'm glad to hear that your lovely cat is gradually improving. She has really been through it and so have you. No wonder you were in tears - I'd have been in bits. Fingers crossed that the weekend will see her truly on the mend.
((((hugs))))

So pleased to read encouraging news, Squiffy. Like Jane, I've had difficulty posting so couldn't get on here earlier. I do hope the improvement continues and the fluffball gets back to her old self in due course. Love and purrs from Lady Lucy, OH and me. xx

Hi Squiffy I don't know how I managed to miss all these posts as I'm a great cat-lover myself, I've been in your situation with a cat in the vet's hospital for over a week, and would have posted to you much earlier. flowers and love to you. I am so sorry to hear what you and your lovely cat have been going through. Your visits to see her will have given her a boost, and I know you will be willing her to get better and cats are very intuitive and so she'll pick up on that. She is no age at all, and I do hope you have some good news soon.

((((hugs)))) xx

Hi Squiffy, I couldn't post yesterday, but was thinking of you both. We are all willing her better, she must be such a fighter and deserves to get through this.

I have just realised we don't know her name, don't say if you'd rather not. Everything crossed for good news.

Visited this afternoon and she was placed on the table again, so that meant I could stroke/scratch her properly.

She responded to the Nurse freshening up her nether regions by kicking her legs - really good sign!

She’s now only got the feeding tube, so food and meds are all fired into her insides that way.

Her breathing’s still a bit raspy, but no longer bubbly.

Tummy stitches will probably be removed Mon or Tues, so that will probably be another test on her reflexes!

I noticed a couple of days ago that she smelt different, in a good way. I didn’t say anything, but one of the Nurses commented on it, so I wasn’t imagining it! It had been as though her body had been exuding something and now it isn’t. Also, her fur looks ‘right’ - can’t explain what I mean, but it somehow just didn’t seem quite as it should be befire!

Onwards and, hopefully, upwards.

Squiffy Sat 11-Aug-18 19:58:23

Before not befire!

Excellent news! flowers

Jane10 Sat 11-Aug-18 20:04:30

It sure is.

craftergran Sat 11-Aug-18 20:40:54

Hope your little cat gets better soon.

As a matter of interest do they still think she was poisoned by something and that caused all this or do they now think it was something else?

My cat's fur can change how it looks when he isn't well. So I know what you mean,

Beau Sat 11-Aug-18 21:16:51

So happy to hear that news Squiffy, I've been worrying - I know exactly what you mean, we know them so well. I spent nearly £1,000 on tests and hospital overnighter for my boy with mysterious and serious symptoms but I kept saying from the beginning 'there is something wrong with his face, it looks lopsided, it's not his proper smile'. Cue pitying looks ?. Next morning - one recovered cat with a massive lump sticking out of the left side of his jaw - one cat allergic to bee stings ?

Waterloosunset Sat 11-Aug-18 21:23:08

Dear Squiffy, you and little kitty are so in tune with each other, it is beautiful to see. I am sure she is feeling your love and hope and is not giving up. Keep on keeping on Little Miss Fighter, we are all rooting for you x

Squiffy Sat 11-Aug-18 21:43:10

craftergran They still don’t know what the actual cause was, they’re just dealing with the effects. Unfortunately, it means that I can’t remove/prevent the cause, so hopefully whatever it was is no longer around.

Squiffy Sat 11-Aug-18 21:46:08

Beau It’s like waterloo says, being ‘in tune’ with your cat speaks volumes!

Willow500 Sat 11-Aug-18 22:19:13

Happy to hear she's still continuing to improve albeit slowly and that the vets are continuing to support her - and you!

MissAdventure Sat 11-Aug-18 23:04:17

I haven't commented before, but have been reading the updates.
So glad it seems there is improvements. smile
Hope she goes from strength to strength.

Jane10 Sun 12-Aug-18 07:13:43

Gosh it sounds like a sort of cat diphtheria with all that grot at the back of her throat.

Sparklefizz Sun 12-Aug-18 10:19:58

Great news Squiffy. Hope your lovely little girl continues to improve. Remember to look after yourself during this stressful time. (((hugs)))

burtieb26 Sun 12-Aug-18 10:32:57

Try a little rice pudding. My vet always told me to give my cats this when they were off their food.

Squiffy Sun 12-Aug-18 11:28:08

SHE’S MIAOWED grin grin sunshine

Sorry for shouty capitals!!

The Vet Nurse just rang especially to tell me!

I’m so envious that she heard it and I haven’t ha ha ha!

It is so significant, it’s unbelievable.

Jane Diphtheria - that’s never been mentioned, I wonder if they even considered it? I’ll chat to Vet tomorrow. Thanks for thinking of that.

Burtie Thanks, but she can’t tolerate dairy and has a whole raft of allergies foodwise.

Thank you MissA, Sparkle and all of you. Will do a mini-update tonight after I’ve visited her.

This is playing merry hell with the ME, I’m in tatters!!

Jane10 Sun 12-Aug-18 11:42:41

I don't think cats can get diphtheria it's just what the symptoms reminded me of. Great to hear that she's miowing again! Wee puss.

Squiffy Sun 12-Aug-18 11:47:41

Oh right, I took you too literally!!

Waterloosunset Sun 12-Aug-18 14:48:50

SHE MIAOWED! Thank you so much for sharing with us - it’s made my day! Xxx
