Morning all.

Clutching at straws here, but I have a very poorly cat and wondered if any of you have dealt with the same issue.

She has been retching/gagging since Sunday evening and until yesterday was also flicking her tongue in and out.

Monday we went to the vet and she had exploratories done.

Her gut was inflamed so they operated on her abdomen, but found nothing.

She came home last night and drank some water, but not eaten.

She's on two meds - one anti-inflammatory and Ranittidene (sp?) as she is full of wind.

She spends her time hiding quietly in a corner and wants to be on her own (very out of character, but understandable at the moment).

She is still doing mini-retches, almost like an unproductive burp.

I slept downstairs with her last night and she had a few little wanders around and then settled down again.

Any ideas as to what may be causing this or what else to do? The vet's on standby to readmit her, but he doesn't have a clue as to the cause.

Help please!

Oh Squiffy. Thinking of you.

Squiffy Wed 08-Aug-18 20:01:21

Vet just rang.

All still very iffy, but she did get some reaction when she stroked her behind her ears.

Blood test results show issues, but her lack of food would account for most of that.

Tomorrow she’ll be given her full quota of nutrients - they’ve been building the level up in increments.

The care she’s getting has been amazing, proper caring care IYSWIM, not just doing a job.

Vet phoning again in morning . . .

Thank you all smile

Awww Squiffy- yours is the first post I read in the morning and the last post I read at night. It’s been such a rollercoaster for darling pusscat and, of course, for you! I will keep sending positive get well vibes to Little Miss Fighter. She deserves to get through this ?xxx

Me too Waterloosunset!

Squiffy Thu 09-Aug-18 09:22:29

You’re all so lovely! smile

No change this morning.

She’s a little responsive when she’s out of her kennel and put on the table, but still can’t clear all the gunk at the back of her throat, so nurses still doing that for her.

Visiting her again this afternoon.

Jane10 Thu 09-Aug-18 09:36:59

She's really hanging in there! Give her a pat from me.

Waterloosunset Thu 09-Aug-18 09:58:09

Willow500 Thu 09-Aug-18 11:23:01

Oh bless her - poor little soul but she's hanging on in there so fingers crossed the nutrients they give her pull her round.

1974cookie Thu 09-Aug-18 17:14:42

Cuddles to you both Squiffy. What a little fighter she is bless her dear little heart xx.

Squiffy Thu 09-Aug-18 20:45:44

No change at visit sad I disgraced and embarrassed myself with tears running down my face.

The Vet rang tonight and we had another meaningful chat. She’s happy to continue treatment, rather than ‘the alternative’ as any actual suffering has been alleviated.

Swab reaults should be back by Tues, so then we should know exactly what the trouble is.

I was surprised when the Vet said that she was relieved that I didn’t want to give up yet. They deal with so many animals, but I think they’ve all been smitten with our little fluffball!

Night night all smile

I'm so sorry Squiffy. I really hoped she would have improved by now. She is a fighter and I do so hope she pulls through.

Scribbles Thu 09-Aug-18 20:56:18

Oh, Squiffy, what a time you are having. No wonder you cried, you're only human and you care so don't, please, think of it as "disgrace" and "embarrassment".

Bless the vet for her persistence and bless the puss for her indomitable cat spirit. May you all sleep well. flowers

Jane10 Thu 09-Aug-18 21:22:22

I'm being very cynical but this must be costing a fortune. She's worth it but the vet's in business. Are you sure this sort of treatment is truly worth persevering with? Is the poor puss suffering? Very sorry to mention this but it must be on your mind too.

Squiffy Thu 09-Aug-18 21:28:33

Yes, Jane I’ve been weighing it up very carefully! They don’t need to drum up trade, they’re a very busy practice. I’ve been assured that she’s not suffering, otherwise I’d have to let her go, couldn’t bear the thought of her suffering.

So far, the insurance is holding up!

Jane10 Thu 09-Aug-18 21:49:30

That's OK then. I was worrying a wee bit! Tuesday seems very far away for results. You must be sooooo wrung out with all the uncertainty and worry.

Waterloosunset Thu 09-Aug-18 21:52:22

Oh Squiffy, it’s exhausting holding it together for so long - no wonder you cried. I find it difficult enough just waiting on your news! Rest well tonight and may tomorrow bring new hope. Night night xxx

Things are looking up - but I'm not getting carried away!

Swab results were back this afternoon and that's resulted in a change in antibiotics. She needed something more specific to the mega infection that she has.

She's responding to stimuli better and when I blew on the fluffy bit of her ear she flicked it! She also kicked her hind legs when the nurse was cleaning her. Plus she rolled on to her side by herself, which involved moving her hind legs and stretching them out.

Everyone's being so brilliantly caring at the practice, I can't believe how much they're doing for her - over and above. They've got very fond of her, so how lucky are we?

Extra massages, physio and gentle stimulation, and strokes and scratchings!

Hopefully, the new antibio and potassium supplement will do the trick.

She actually looked better and more like herself today, but I couldn't actually tell you what was different!

Do not apologise for your tears Squiffy. My Partner and I have sobbed uncontrollably at our Vets in the past and believe me, you never need to feel bad about about this as in our personal experience, they completely and utterly understand. Our Pets are our lives.
Hoping that your beloved Pussycat continues to do well.

Waterloosunset Fri 10-Aug-18 18:59:27

Thank you Squiffy - it’s music to my ears ? What an amazing feisty pussycat she is - perhaps it’s because she can feel/sense all the love around her! I am so happy to hear your news today. Am sending her loving, get well wishes and I hope she grows stronger and stronger each day xxx

kathsue Fri 10-Aug-18 20:11:32
