Ours will always be the beautiful German Shepard. Loyal. Loving. Protective, big bundle of fun! We have had many over the last 60 odd years. Always well trained! I do love the mini schnauzers although never owned one.

Whitewave - sorry to read about your little dog x
Off to the vets at 10.30 ๐ค๐ค.
The point is really that he is in his 14th year and of course we must face up to the fact that, like us he is nearer the end of his life than the beginning.
Still hard though.
Thinking of you and Duncan, as we all are
x
Right! That will teach me not to google and get my knickers in a twist.
I am extremely embarrassed to report (and as pleased as punch) that Duncanโs heart is fine. It is simply an old manโs cough, and his fainting fits which happened in the summer are at the moment a mystery. But the vet says as he is at the moment and with luck set to live 2-3 more years ๐๐๐๐
So thank you all for your kind wishes and a huge sorry for making such a fuss over what has wonderfully proved to be nothing. ๐ณ๐ฅณ
Oh good news! ๐ฎโ๐จ ๐ค
That's good to hear Whitewavemark2. I've done exactly the same with one of our BTs, it was a false call and we had him for another 2 years by which time he was really very old.
So pleased to hear that! I was at the vets with our dog this morning.
Amongst all the lively dogs, a woman came in carrying a dog lying quietly in her arms, looking really miserable.
I was called in just after she arrived, but I hope it might have been like your experience WWM2.
I'm really more of a cat lady (got 4) but if I had a dog - a standard poodle.
Hearing about so many wonderful dogs here, and wee sad stories too
, but is has to be pot luck rescue dogs for me. Giving them another chance.
Our first family dog was an Alsation, she was the friendliest, loveliest pet. When we married and had children, we had two rough collies, who had lovely sweet natures, and great with the children.
When they passed, we decided no more dogs! But a little yorkie/pomeranian was given to us, and has been in our family for 12 years now. He's very small, a bit snappy, and not as sweet natured as the larger dogs, but still as lovable in his own way.

Phew!
It is so easy to imagine the worst - sadly it happens all too often- but I bet you were a happy mum all the way home!
In common with many vets, if a dog is really poorly or is being PTS, our vet displays a lit candle on the reception desk with a sign to say that someone is having to face a hard decision at the moment and to respect what they are going through. The atmosphere tends be be very subdued when people realise. The usual chatter is invariably absent when we all remember those moments in the past and give our pets an extra cuddle .
The owner also has the option to stay with their pet as long as they like and then leave quietly and privately through the back (staff) entrance
Anther vote for the German shepherd. I have a 9yr old and an almost 7 year old puppy (no, that's not a typo).
Two vastly differing personalities but both smart, life loving, endearing furballs.
Border Terriers here. Our present one "Dottie" is 15 and although hale and hearty we will get to the day where we have to do the final kindness. Our first "Bobbin" we lost at 16 when on Easter Monday of the first "lock down" she couldn't balance and walk. Vet felt it was a brain tumour and so we had to say goodbye. The vet pts and allowed us o hold her . First time l had seen my husband cry. When Dottie's time comes we won't have another puppy ( we are 70 ) but l would like to take on an elderly border . l do agree that borders don't have owners they have "staff"
Iโm so pleased to hear your good news wwm. What a relief for you.
Border collies we've had 3 now on our 4th wouldn't have anything else!
Wonderful news <3
Definitely German shepherds( rescued) . Wonderful dogs. Our current one shona is at my feet at the moment!
Oh 2420mags how very sad.
My lovely Hattie (only 5) -here- had to be PTS 2 years ago and because of lockdown regs I was not allowed to be with her, I had to hand her over in the car park- fortunately not knowing this was to be goodbye or I not have got home intact, but I felt I had betrayed the promise that I have made to all the dogs in my life (6 now) namely that they would go to sleep in the arms of the person who loved them best and whom they trusted to do their best for them.
That was a dreadful day.
I am so sorry for all those who have lost their beloved companions; I lost mine last year. He was a Goldendoodle and absolutely gorgeous in nature. I said I would never have another dog but after 8 months, I gave in and now have the craziest Tibetan Terrier who has stolen my heart. However, I have now said that I will never have another puppy as getting down on my knees is a killer and it is much harder than when I was more agile.
There are loads of breeds I love but consider unsuitable for me to keep. I tend to lean towards the larger breeds, the Great Dane is a lovely breed. I love the working Collies and have a real soft spot for Cavalier King Charles Spaniels too. I have met some amazing Cavapoos and Heinz 57's too. For me it is about personality so it is more about the individual dog really.
WWM, that is really good news. I am relieved for you.
Yorkie - or Pom! I like little dogs. Saw an adorable Jack Russell/Chihuahua cross when out walking the other day.
Rottweilers, I adore them and hate the unfair reputation they have.
They love to be loved, and love to love, and always have a sense of real dependency with their owners, these are not the dogs to own if you donโt have the proper time to be at home with them (or train them, as Rottweilers come with serious responsibility), as their separation anxiety will cause them to grow restless, nervous, destructive, and aggressive....
Mine love other animals and people, they are intelligent, very affectionate and social and I love them very much.
I have two Staffies and they are the best most loveable dogs ever!! Brilliant with kids too and fill my life with love and happiness.
