Absolutely yuk. Sorry but there you are.

Not something we've ever done but if I was on my own, I'm pretty sure I'd be very tempted.

Doodledog

It's a no from me. Our dogs have always slept downstairs.

My daughter's dog sleeps in her bed, and when she stays here I grudgingly let him sleep on top of her bed on a washable throw, so he can feel like he's in with her. I am not at all keen, but it wouldn't be fair to make him sleep downstairs when he's been used to having company overnight. The thought of sleeping next to a dog, with dog breath at one end and worse at the other is deeply unpleasant, and worse - he snores grin

Same here. Jack Russell too and she is on the bed.

Yes as she is very small, doesn’t shed hair and is very clean but she does sleep on a washable fleece. She’s less trouble than husband!! 🤣

NO.

Would you go and sleep in dog's basket?

Yes I have been known to sit in it on cold days as it’s up against the kitchen radiator. Mine have those very big padded round beds, very comfy !

My kiwi friend tells me in her homeland, the phrase 3 dog winter is used when it’s very cold and throwing a 3rd dog on the bed is needed

Love it!

I knew it was ā€˜a saying’. Did not know of a three dog winter in NZ though..

Yes, almost. Our dog has her own bed at the bottom of ours, on top of the ottoman, so that she is level but not on the bed. It is only a double bed so there is not enough room. She is a full member of the family and she loves being near us. I feel it would be cruel to stop her. I’m a soft touch, I know.

dalrymple23 Tue 15-Aug-23 15:22:33

Two of us. Winter hot water bottles. Three farting, snoring, warm hounds. Retrievers. Bliss!!

Nagmad2016 Tue 15-Aug-23 15:24:18

No. I don't like dog friendly hotels for this reason too. I love animals but have never allowed my pets in the bedroom.

BeneathTheHowlingStars Tue 15-Aug-23 15:27:54

Absolutely yes! I love having an animal asleep close to me.

Current dog sleeps on a blanket beside me. The previous old rescue Labrador didn't and anyway, he couldn't climb stairs poor chap and made himself a space downstairs. The dog before that slept on my bed but had to be slowly persuaded to use a basket beside the bed when I met my current partner as there wasn't room for us all. Personally, I like having a small to medium sized dog on the bottom of my bed, I feel more confident having the windows wide open if there's a dog around. It's worth having a low bed or a ramp as they get older.

My beautiful girl (tall staffy cross) but not really heavily overweight slept on my bed from 7 weeks old she was amazing
and learnt her potty training in about 12 weeks never ever soiling inside the house again. Throughout her years with me
her place at night was on the bed. She had a leg operation and had to stay downstairs and literally cried all night in the end I had to bring in a camp bed and stay downstairs with her until her leg healed as all she wanted was me to be near her.

My best fifteen years was spent with my girl who was loyal brilliant companion and I loved her unconditionally, sadly her age caught up with her and due to osteoporosis in legs and just old age I had to accept it was time for our human/doggy goodbye. It has been two weeks now and I am still lost without her although all my memories are the happiest of ever.
I dearly wish she was still here to sleep on my bed.

No to dog sleeping on beds
No to dogs being upstairs - it’s def bad for their hips.

DamaskRose Tue 15-Aug-23 16:17:52

Well I’d say a definite NO but we had a rescue German Shepherd who, on the first New Year we had her, got right into the bed with me because she was absolutely terrified. I didn’t put her out …

Have 2 spaniels and they are not allowed upstairs let alone on the bed. Dogs can't bath every day it's bad for their skin so definitely not sleeping in our bed. We have throws on the sofa as they shed a lot and sleep there at night.
Had one dog in the bedroom on his dog bed as he was lonely when our other dog died and howled all night. But never in our bed

Farzanah Tue 15-Aug-23 16:23:50

When you think where their noses have been I personally don’t fancy it, or upstairs. If my OH sniffed everyone’s bottom that he met I wouldn’t let him in bed either 😲

Newatthis Tue 15-Aug-23 16:29:04

No, no and no! Yuk!

Nvella Tue 15-Aug-23 16:36:18

Yes yes - love sleeping with my dog - so warm!!

I’m afraid that sighthounds assume that beds were invented for them but they tolerate humans joining them. When whippets weren’t catching rabbits for the pot or racing they used to sleep with the children to keep them warm. My Spaniels were never allowed on or in the bed and even my first two whippets slept in a crate in the kitchen because I was working but the latest one is very Velcro. Thankfully whippets don’t shed much and, if they smell I’ve never noticed it. I don’t think I’d allow another breed on the bed.

Aah yes. We have a sighthound, AKA Velcro dog. They don’t actually smell and he has us very well trained! He sleeps next to DH’s side of the bed in his own bed on the floor, but is allowed to lie on the bottom of our bed in the morning for an hour or two. Never had a dog sleep on the bed before him, but they have a way of persuading you…

I have a ā€œkitty zoneā€ on my bed. I love her soft fur and purring which is soothing. She comes and goes all night.

Previous dogs had to sleep on the floor in their bed at the foot of our bed. Dogs too big and smelly, no matter how much we loved them.
I’m a pet lover!

All pets sleep in your bed the minute you leave the house šŸ˜†

MayBee70 Tue 15-Aug-23 17:02:58

In between dogs I looked after another whippet on a holiday swap and he always came upstairs for a cuddle in the morning which is what he did at home. I felt a bit bad because I didn’t allow my own dogs upstairs at that time.Current Whippet sleeps by my feet through the night but in the early hours asks for the duvet to be lifted so she can have her cuddle.

Chardy Tue 15-Aug-23 17:27:27

Currently, dog sleeps in a dog bed outside my closed bedroom door. Cats sometimes sleep there too, sometimes downstairs.

Froglady Tue 15-Aug-23 17:28:23

My friend's dog sleeps on the bed with him and I see nothing wrong with this. It shouldn't matter to anyone else what someone does with their pets.
