This is my third Christmas without my husband and I was really thrown by the fact that I missed him much more than in previous years. I think the initial shock of his sudden passing is wearing off. I have three sons and three lovely grandchildren - but without "my bloke" it seemed very very empty and lonely this year.

sad

How are you this morning bikergran?

Don't worry - you've just had a bit of a bad time - all part of the grieving process I think.

I've recently moved into a new flat and the cooker there has a grill inside it. I haven't used it yet but I don't think it's a good idea because it looks tricky to use.

I wish I had my old cooker back. It had a separate grill and a warming drawer.

It turns out that Galen and I live about five miles away from each other.!!! and Galen lives quite near one of my sons (the youngest one who is estranged from his brothers. sad

I'm a veggie but when I'm feeling like I can't be bothered to prepare much food - I make Instant Mashed potato with cheese on top. It doesn't sound too tasty but it's quite nice and you can add tomatoes or cucumber or whatever you fancy,

PS. Galen and Nannieroz111 If I bought a Tablet would I be able to set it up myself?

I'm fairly IT literate and I don't want to ask my sons for help as I'm trying to be as independent as possible.

nannieroz111 Wed 25-Mar-15 07:02:08

Have to admit falconbird it was DH who set up my tablet for me so I don't know what was involved. I don't remember it being a big deal. You may need a little help to start, but I think your IT skills are better than mine, so shouldn't be a problem. If I do have any little techy glitches, I usually Google the details and find answers that way. I'm sure all the GNs who have tablets would help you if the can.

bikergran Wed 25-Mar-15 07:50:57

Falcon thanks I am ok this morning (but the day is young) smile
If you use the grill don't do cheese n toms on toast! smile

Now then, you know I am not a great believer in some things! but! I do believe in coincidences and that some things, some people are doomed to meet, I think that having one of us whom you have been chatting to so near is a sign that you are meant to meet! that is my take on things, and 5 miles away! brilliant! I hope you do try and meet up somehow, how lovely to have another GNetter on your doorstep and! I'm sure Galan would help you with your tablet if need be, I know you said Galen lives near one of your son's but you could always meet half way in a little café or somewhere, you wouldn't need to go too near the area if it upsets you. I'm sure another person would give you even more confidence, I really hope you have a think about it when your ready.

nannieroz hope you are ok this morning, I'm still in dressing gown having cup of tea and planning the day, DD has keys for new house (forced to moved as they now need an extra bedroom for baby) so I need to go and buy filler, rollers, etc.. we always had all the decorating stuff as DH used to be a painter and decorator, but lots of new stuff out now, so I will be busy this next week or two as lots to do, and it will keep me busy and stop my mind going off on one smile

(bet it's beautiful in Llandudno this morning)!!! smile if we ever meet on a train etc that could be our password smile (Llandudno)

nannieroz111 Wed 25-Mar-15 07:57:51

Oh biker you do cheer me up. You have such energy...... you put me to shame.

Codeword: Llandudo. ............ Lol

bikergran Wed 25-Mar-15 08:45:00

oh nanierroz I am fine don't worry, (still in dressing gown) tut!!

yes code word, pass it on smile should we have a secret nod and a wink! as well, just to make sure..

ok soooo.. first its (Llandudno) whispered in the left ear of the other GN, then a nod up towards the sky, then a wink with the right eye (not the left eye that would be confusing and you may end up whispering to the left eye) and winking in the right ear! ok now I want you all to practice on the next person you meet confused ...........chat soon bfn

nannieroz111 Wed 25-Mar-15 08:50:12

I'm sitting here (still in my dressing how too!) chuckling at your posting. You really ought to be on prescription.......... you are such a tonic smile

nannieroz111 Wed 25-Mar-15 08:52:29

bikergran Wed 25-Mar-15 08:58:30

Just hope the first person you meet isn't the postman!
"what! with you in your dressing gown, whispering in his ear, then nodding up to the sky and winking your eye, lol he will be back down that path like lightning lol" (I'm dressed now) have a good day a everyone smile

loopylou Wed 25-Mar-15 17:25:34

nannieroz111 Wed 25-Mar-15 18:00:21

bikergran we need to find you a job ......... writing TV comedy scripts grin

Galen Wed 25-Mar-15 18:03:57

Non at all, sorry. All I know about it is its Welsh

Galen Wed 25-Mar-15 18:06:20

That was to * Bikergrans* post earlier

Galen Wed 25-Mar-15 18:07:27

Falcon if you buy it from Apple either at cribs or in Cabot, they'll set it up for you!

Falconbird Wed 25-Mar-15 18:43:29

Thanks Galen. Do you know where the shop is in Cabot and can you buy a Table there. Is it PC World?

Biker and Nannie - I can just see us in some time in the future, in an hotel somewhere between where we live and Llandudno, going up to different ladies of mature years and saying "Llandudno and nodding and winking smile

I don't own a dressing gown but go about with a cardi on for quite a long time in the morning - just doddling about.

Falconbird Wed 25-Mar-15 18:44:05

Sorry I mean a Tablet !!!

nannieroz111 Wed 25-Mar-15 18:49:32

Oh! falconbird we need to find you a dressing gown especially if we are to wander around a Llandudno hotel winking at unsuspecting guests grin

nannieroz111 Wed 25-Mar-15 18:56:55

On the Tablet question, might I suggest if you are looking to buy one, please buy the best you can afford as I bought a cheapie (mainly because at the time I knew nothing about tablets). Had I known that I would use it as much as I do, I would have opted for a speedier version. Having said all that, this tablet has been well worth the money and been a great introduction to portable PC's.

Falconbird Wed 25-Mar-15 19:14:50

Thanks Nannieroz - I don't like dressing gowns for some reason, but I suppose I should get one in case I have to go into hospital - or hozzie as we call it round here, although hospitals are so hot these days I don't think I would need one. I was thinking about 100 for the Tablet.

nannieroz111 Wed 25-Mar-15 19:25:21

Have you had a look at Amazon? They have an amazing selection of Tablets including an updated version of the one I have..... It's currently on offer around £79

annsixty Wed 25-Mar-15 19:48:02

If you can, I recommend you get an IPad. They do just about everything and although I am quite useless tech wise I managed to set it up myself except for putting Sky Go on which my GD did. Just watching TV on it is a bonus and you don't need to pay for Sky in other rooms which costs about £10 a month.and it takes superb photographs. Now I need to say how much I admire you all for coping as well as you all do.flowers for you all.

nannieroz111 Wed 25-Mar-15 20:00:55

Thank you annsixty. I never cease to be amazed at the truly exceptional GN's who take the time to wish us widows well.

annsixty Wed 25-Mar-15 20:40:19

You are all very welcome, you are so brave. Those of us who haven't experienced it have no idea I am sure.

loopylou Wed 25-Mar-15 20:48:51

Me too, I'm constantly amazed at the strength and courage they show, especially, as you say annsixty we have little idea of how it must be.
I'm humbled reading these posts.

bikergran Wed 25-Mar-15 21:20:50

Falcon a cardy will do fine, but it must be fastened up with a safety pin to make it look authentic oh and some of the buttons missing! that combined with the winking, nodding and whispering should be enough to have us all locked up in a nice police cell over night with free bed & breakfast ! so if we could manage it for a couple of nights it wont cost us much for our overnights stay in Llandudno smile

nannie when my friend and I used went out on bikes, we used to visit various places, we would get out little camera out and make a little video of us both! smile we have done about 5/6 now little short ones, the last one we did was at a place called "Winfields" in Haslingdon, they used to advertise on tv a great big shoe place, but now it a bit like a shopping village, so my friend and I took our camera and started filming in the store (don't know if we were allowed to)! lol they have all camping equipment and tents, so of course we had to try them out, so one of us would lie down in the tent and the other film, also there was little picnic table and seats with plates/glasses etc so we sat down and pretended we were dining smile and we have a running commentary going, (it's a wonder they didn't ask us to leave, I showed them to my DDs they said we should put them on youtube lol..shock

Thank you annsixty smile
I have a busy day tomorrow, hairdressers (which I hate having my hair cut) then busy at DDs house, sanding and filling, more sanding and filling, chat soon everyone, wink, wink or should that have been a nod! moon
