Who is Netanyahu's God?

Netanyahu is a religious conservative (BBC). He is also an Israeli nationalist who has made Israel an Apartheid nation.

Judaism varies among religious Jews. As does Islam and Christianity.

If Netanyahu has a god it will be Jaweh, Jehovah, the God of the Old Testament and Lord of all creation.

Sure--Net's interpretation of Jaweh,

Growstuff ,in answer to your last, what I mean by "a god" , please note small 'c,' is a set of beliefs and allegiances. I do not believe in any supernatural form of existence. I am sure Netanyahu hold a set of beliefs and allegiances whatever they may be. I doubt if Netanyahu's set of beliefs and allegiances amount to Allah.

Although I addressed this to Growstuff everyone is welcome to read and respond.

I really don't have "a god" (with capital or lower case g). I do not have a single set of beliefs and allegiances set in stone which guides my behaviour or thoughts.

In any case, I thought this thread was about Netanyahu's G(g)od, not mine.

On Sunday I attended a service in a cathedral whose original buidling was bombed and flattened in WW2. The lesson also got me thinking about Israel and Netanyahu.
Jewish people have over 600 commandments their God asks them to follow. Moses gets it down to 10. Jesus, coaching Christians, gets it further down to two .... the most important one being, "Love thy neighbour as thyself," because only in that way can you love God.

Thank you, Joseann

The world would be a better place if we followed those, no matter who our God or our beliefs.

Yes you are Monica ''I am no apologist for Israel''

What about the Hamas commanders who made rape, murdering and dismembering babies and killing old people formal weapons of war.

I know such atrocities happen in most conflicts , but in modern war fair who else has made them weapons of war and instructed their troops to commit these crimes.

My sympathies were all with the Palestinians until the start of the Hamas campaign.

Agreed.

Germanshepherdsmum

You could say the same of Putin, who is a member of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Agreed.

maddyone Tue 19-Dec-23 17:44:33

Netanyahu is a disgrace to humanity……….without a shred of humanity.

So are Hamas. But not a mention of that!

maddyone Tue 19-Dec-23 17:47:33

Rape and the murder and the dismemberment of children and babies and deliberate murder of civilians are crimes that are NEVER EVER JUSTIFIABLE as weapons of war.

When this behaviour is adopted as OFFICIAL weapons of war by an army or organisation it is even more heinous and totally unjustifiaable in any circumstance whatsoever.

How any decent person can ever consider a circumstance where, presumably they could consider accepting these weapons as justifiable is completely beyond me.

Totally agree again.

To answer the OPs question - Netanyahu

^Netanyahu is a disgrace to humanity……….without a shred of humanity.^

Oh there has been plenty. Not a single apologist on here for what Hamas did.

But the response by Netanyahu and the IDF has been ... a disgrace to humanity.... without a shred of humanity.

And don't tell me that saying so is antesemitic. Huge numbers of Jews, from Israel and all over the world, are saying the same and screaming 'NOT IN OUT NAME'. So are they antisemitic? They are being insulted, called traitors and worse, by other Jews- for saying so, in their thousands.

maddyone Wed 20-Dec-23 09:50:19

Perhaps the question should be reversed, who is the God of Hamas? The one they call Allahu Akbar to as they kill people. Allahu Akbar means Allah is the greatest (for anyone who might be unaware.)

Fleurpepper Wed 20-Dec-23 09:57:46

This is not the question here. And yes, we all know what Allahu Akbar means, I think.

The question here is about the response to the Hamas atrocities- the etnic cleansing of a people by Netanyahu and the IDF- and who is the God that is 'guiding' them.

Fleurpepper Wed 20-Dec-23 10:00:32

You do realise that massive numbers of Jews are totally against what he and the IDF are doing, don't you? Yes, real Jews, from Israel and all over the world. Some religious, and some not.

Fleurpepper Wed 20-Dec-23 11:01:24

Those Jews are beign attacked, villified, and called traitors by other Jews. What is it called? Double anti-semitism? Auto-anti-semitism?

maddyone Wed 20-Dec-23 11:29:37

If you say so fleur. You obviously are unable to see the point so I’ll leave it to you.

Grantanow Wed 20-Dec-23 12:56:57

Political psychopaths use religion simply as an instrument of power, to control people. Not all politicians are 100% psychopathic but imo some degree of it is needed to scramble over other people on the way to the top.

maddyone, not sure which post you are replying to. But I would be interested in your answer ot the last one.

Do you believe that a massive number of Jews in Israel, and around the world, are totally against Netanyahu's and the IDF current ethnic cleaning. And are being attacked, verbally and otherwise, for saying, by other Jews. What would you call it? Fair?

Jaberwok Thu 28-Dec-23 14:35:20

I repeat, today, the 28th December is Holy Innocents Day. Perhaps on this day we can all pray or at least remember ALL children who are affected by war, those held hostage, those fleeing persecution, those displaced, those orphaned by war or hatred, ALL children wherever they are, whatever their circumstances.

Anniebach Thu 28-Dec-23 14:52:00

Hamas must not be criticised?

Magsymoo Thu 28-Dec-23 15:06:13

Tragically from time immemorial rape and murder of women and children has been used as a weapon of war - officially or not. A book which explores this “Our Bodies Their Battlefield “ by Christina Lamb, is a disturbing and powerful read.- Bosnia, Argentina,Syria,Congo, Burma, Iraq,Afghanistan, Japan, Red Army in Germany in WW2, Ancient Greeks, Romans, Persians.
Hamas are not unique in this atrocity. Women have always been used as spoils of war. This situation in Gaza will never be resolved by each side trying to outdo each other in violence. It will only be resolved when Israel’s biggest supporter, the US, insists on a political solution which can work towards giving Israel security and the Palestinians a state to live in with dignity and massive investment from the West.

All too often I’m afraid, religion is a convenient excuse for one set of people to hate another set.
Or for some of them anyway.
