Who is Netanyahu's God?

Netanyahu is a religious conservative (BBC). He is also an Israeli nationalist who has made Israel an Apartheid nation.

Judaism varies among religious Jews. As does Islam and Christianity.

MOnica, thanks for your reply. You wrote: "My sympathies were all with the Palestinians until the start of the Hamas campaign."

Hamas is not the Palestinian people. Hamas is like the Mafia, existing for its own ends.

Hamas is not the Palestinian people

Netanyahu is not the Jewish people either.

Putin is religious too apparently.

No but the argument usually used to support Israel is that it is the only real democracy in the Middle East (it isn't especially if you are Palestinian)) so Netanyahu as an elected official is just doing what the population want.

Hamas were elected too.

The political wing of Hamas was elected.
The people of Gaza are being punished because of a terrorist group who were not elected. I do wish they had renamed the political wing but they didn't. Referring to Hamas as terrorists and then claiming they were elected is misleading.
It's irrelevant anyway. Hamas never properly controlled Gaza, Israel did. Hamas administered the parts the Israelis permitted them to.

Putin also was elected, so was Hitler, and Netanyahu, and Xi Jingping. I agree with whoever said that rulers like these are psychopaths, and may use religion as an excuse.

Has Netanyahu quoted scripture?

Fleurpepper Fri 29-Dec-23 15:25:28

Yes, many many times. So have others who support him and many in the IDF.

Anniebach Fri 29-Dec-23 15:26:47

Thank you, I haven’t heard him

''Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday again invoked Jewish and Christian scripture to justify the ongoing war on the Gaza Strip.

"The Bible says that 'there is a time for peace and a time for war.' This is a time for war," Netanyahu told a press conference, quoting Ecclesiastes, a book in both the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh) and Old Testament of the Christian Bible.

Since the weekend the Israeli army has widened its air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip, which has been under relentless airstrikes since a cross-border attack by Hamas group on Oct. 7.

Over 9,800 people have been killed in the conflict, including 8,306 Palestinians and more than 1,538 Israelis.

Netanyahu said his government will not agree to a cease-fire in Gaza, saying such a deal would mean a surrender to Hamas, citing as justification the U.S. not agreeing to a cease-fire following the 1941 Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor or after the terrorist attacks of 2001.

“(Victory) begins with knowing the difference between good and evil, between right and wrong … It means making a moral distinction between the deliberate murder of the innocent and the unintentional casualties that accompany every legitimate war,” he said.

This was not the first time Netanyahu has cited scripture to justify the ongoing Israeli assault on Gaza.''

One of many many times.

Jewish leaders are saying that Netanyahu has no God- and has highjacked Judaism in the form or Zionism, and the holocaust- for his own Zionist, power aims. Nothing to do with religion

Dovid Weiss, a traditional orthodox Rabi explains above.

I agree with what BN says in the sentence starting ‘victory’.

Where? Please at least have the courtesy to quote.

The IDF can call itself what it wants, and certainly does not the reality on the ground, not for a long time, and certainly not since october.

Eloethan Sun 31-Dec-23 23:20:04

I loathe religion and nationalism. I don't know how religious Netanyahu is but he is a horrible human being. One of his ministers, refraining from referring to Palestinians as "animals" instead referred to them as "human animals" and this sort of attitude seems to be all pervasive.

I believe Israel should think long and hard about what it is doing now. Not so many people were aware of the way Palestinian people were, and continue to be, treated - the paltry amount of land that was allocated to them and the ever growing encroachment on their land by Israeli settlers. Now the world can see how willing the Israeli government is to drop bombs on a narrow, highly populated area, from which its inhabitants cannot escape and how they are willing to deny men, women and children the absolute essentials of life, along with completely obliterating their homes and infrastructure. L:et's call it what it is - genocide.

Fleurpepper Mon 01-Jan-24 12:15:03

Netanyahu has no God, but he uses the Scriptures in the vilest of ways to justify genocide, and a Zionist plan that goes back such a long way.

and so well illustrated in the above video.

Katie59 Mon 01-Jan-24 17:20:50

It dosnt matter now if there was or is a plan what is happening is real, Hamas wants to destroy Israel and is holding 2 million Palestinians hostage, if Israel stops it will continue firing rockets and do any thing else it can to achieve its aims.
Hamas has to be removed from Gaza if that happens the civilian deaths would stop, Hamas is not Palestine.

Fleurpepper Mon 01-Jan-24 17:56:09

Exactly. But it is not Hamas that is being destroyed, it is the people of Palestine.

If Palestinians, the few remaining alive, are forced off their land in Gaza and the West Bank- Israel will certainly never ever be safe, can't you see that? What happens next in the near and more distant future?

That’s a laugh, Israel has never been secure

If Israel hadn’t got the largest best equipped defence force in the Middle East with nuclear weapons backed up by the US and others, they would have been exterminated decades ago. The US also pays Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and others to leave Israel alone.

Even Iran would not take on Israel directly so they supply terrorists to harass them

fleurpepper’s post just doesn’t make sense.

It is very clear- to those who want or are able to understand.

Katie59 Tue 02-Jan-24 07:33:31

Fleurpepper.

You just dont get it do you, Israel is fighting for survival, the whole reason for the US helping them is to stop escalation, if Israel is pressed hard enough it will use nuclear weapons.

The humanitarian solution is for Hamas to leave Gaza and save lives, it is my speculation that Israel will continue until they are forced out, so the deaths are entirely due to Hamas.

Personally I detest extreme religious ideology including Jewish and Islamic, so have no sympathy for either side. My sympathy is for civilians in Palestine that Hamas are willing to use as human shields.

I note that the Israeli Supreme Court has thrown out Netanyahu’s planned judicial reform because it would be severely anti-democratic.

How can there ever be peace with Netanyahu, cannot understand him being elected that’s obviously the sort if leader Israel wants. There will never be peace there. Israel wanted control not peace but don’t say it’s in the name of God it’s the opposite. The ordinary Palestinian can’t fight Hamas or Israel.

I suppose the nearest to a free democracy is Turkey where there is a large army to stop the minorities fighting each other. All other countries have military rule or conflict, expecting Israel to be fully democratic in a war is unrealistic

Oreo Tue 02-Jan-24 09:51:28

That’s politics isn’t it? Some of the people want him and some don’t.Just like here or any other democracy. You have to remember tho that Israelis live surrounded by enemies and don’t want a wishy washy government. He is unpopular there generally it seems for other reasons than this war.
