The Bishop of Washington - her address today.

Now here is a truly brave woman, who has put her career on the line here, as a true Christian who really understands what Christianity is about.

Trump, Malania, Vance and families, were just trapped there, and could not walk out or stop her. Stunning and so full of humanity.

Trump believes that God saved him to do his (specific) bidding. Therefore he believes he can do no wrong.

This, from the independent

Meanwhile, in an unhinged rant on TruthSocial, Trump wrote that Budde owes “the public” an apology.

“The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hard line Trump hater,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “She was nasty in tone, and not compelling or smart.... She and her church owe the public an apology!”

I also think that the main problem here is that Trump truly believes that he has been chosen by God.. He said this in his speech and I think that he is delusional enough to think that he is now above the church..

I don't think the Bishop was doing anything other than "speaking truth to power". It may not be your "truth" Boz but it is her's and she said what many people, both in the US and living in other countries, believe. She's brave as this will put a target on her back in a country that has more guns than people.

I made no reference to how I think - just quoting history and the often chasm between Politics and Church.
My thoughts are unimportant, I believe.

Yes chosen by God. How terrifying. How have we let this happen? Have people learned nothing?

pascal30 Wed 22-Jan-25 10:34:38

Trump has now dismantled all diversity programmes in USA..

Barleyfields Wed 22-Jan-25 10:35:17

Charles I believed he was chosen by God. That didn’t end well.

The Cass report. Read it.

I have just read the Cass Review Summary. It is mainly a timely warning against the use of puberty blockers on children who are too young to decide that they wish to reassign their gender. It also highlights the danger of parents and carers pushing the transgender issue onto children for personal or political reasons.

Assuming this is the same document as 'The Cass report', it does not in any way deny the fact that some children do genuinely feel that their bodies do not fit their gender it just cautions the use of drugs that would irrevocably put them on the road to reassignment before they reach an age to be able to make such a life changing decision.

She was not making a speech about gender - she was talking about compassion. How anyone could possibly have missed that point is beyond me.

Exactly. And by including a range of different people who need compassion (whether we personally are behind their causes or not) she made it difficult to object to any of it. It was a very good speech and she was brave to make it.

Doodledog Wed 22-Jan-25 10:53:21

Yes, Indigo. The Cass Report is a measured and objective review of the often politicised and abusive way in which children have been treated by the trans movement.

I wonder what Vance muttered to his wife. He made 2 attempts and she blanked him both times. She continued to look forward and listen intently to the Bishop.

She was probably in shock being lectured to, and having to listen to such woke nonsense. I’d have walked out.

MissAdventure Wed 22-Jan-25 10:59:05

What's woke about asking for compassion?
Compassion for people who are going quietly about their lives, wanting peace and respect.

Have just read the speech. I presume she is transgender. Just glad I was not there to sit through it. Words fail as it was so bad.. Now Trump knows how awful it is to listen to his rants..

Doodledog Wed 22-Jan-25 11:05:50

Why assume she is trans?

MissAdventure Wed 22-Jan-25 11:09:04

She's married with children, isn't she?

Kate1949 Wed 22-Jan-25 11:10:13

I don't think she is transgender. She is married with two children. Nowhere does it state that she is trans.

Just can't believe you said this! No, she is not. She is a good friend of a very close relative, whose husband was an Episcopalian Minister in NJ. A remarkable, incredible woman and mother of two.

Why on earth would you make that assumption?

Doodledog Wed 22-Jan-25 11:18:57

Is the idea that people can only be compassionate about others like themselves? That’s remarkably shortsighted if so, and would also mean that she is gay, an immigrant, a low-wage worker and a child. She can’t be all of those things, can she?

MissAdventure Wed 22-Jan-25 11:26:06

I'm astounded.

Kate1949 Wed 22-Jan-25 11:28:15

You don't have to be of the same persuasion to have empathy with others.

What was ‘so bad’ about her address?

eddiecat78 Wed 22-Jan-25 11:32:34

Why on earth is anyone focussing on her brief mention of trans people? I took her speach to be mainly about the number of immigrants who are currently keeping the USA running. I admire her enormously.

Because some people seem obsessed with trans and if you can manage to get enough frothing about it it might drown out any sensible discussion.
