In the Telegraph. About GN. And GN local.

here

I suppose Gransnet is a good invention. Although DD said to me only this morning. "Don't you ever read a book now?". shock

Gally Sun 07-Apr-13 11:11:51

Interesting article but I don't think much of the photo of the Granny at the top [oops, hope it's not one of ours blush] I don't imagine any of us like that grin

Marelli Sun 07-Apr-13 11:16:19

Think it's a bit extreme, too, Gally hmm!

Elegran Sun 07-Apr-13 11:16:23

The photo editor has picked up on the one word "eighty" and chosen a stock photo of HIS vision of a mature woman.

Plus - the DT has jumped the gun - the press releases are supposed to all come out at once tomorrow.

Marelli Sun 07-Apr-13 11:21:21

Aha - Elegran! Might have known wink.

annodomini Sun 07-Apr-13 11:22:25

Let's hope that we can make the photo editors ditch the stereotype once and for all. grin

Nelliemoser Sun 07-Apr-13 11:24:44

I still read books in bed as I can't balance my laptop on my chest and type.

This morning I am at last trying to learn to use my camera so I keep coming in to my lap top to look at the piccies I have taken but I get sidetracked by GN.

We need a GNers anonymous group. grin

Nelliemoser Sun 07-Apr-13 11:33:55

Gally I agree about the photo. I am not happy with that image. I don't peer at my laptop like that! (Unless its last thing at night and I have already taken my glasses off.)

The range of stuff we are described as discussing sounds very worthy. What about the sheer fun and silliness that occurs? I really enjoy that!

soop Sun 07-Apr-13 11:51:48

Nellliemoser It's true, we do "sheer fun and silliness" very well. grin

Elegran Sun 07-Apr-13 11:57:24

Nellie We'll just have to publicise the silliness ourselves.

Write to the DT as disgusted of Bournmouth?

" Dear sir, I object strongly to being categorised in your paper as a wrinkled boring old fart. I am still living it up and enjoying life to the full at 99.

I shall ram my Ferrari into your Bentley the next time I am in the vicinity of your car park. Then I shall send my toy boy (23) to duff you up. I shall assist him by belabouring you with my zimmer (if I can get out of this b****y car)

yours,
Outraged and disgusted of Bournmouth!"

If people would just have a look and try it for a week. But one look at a photo like that convinces them that it is not for them, so they never come back.

soop Sun 07-Apr-13 11:59:22

Elegran grin

Galen Sun 07-Apr-13 12:05:52

grinhmm thought you were younger!

Elegran Sun 07-Apr-13 12:45:05

We've not met, Galen have we? I could be 99 or nineteen.

Galen Sun 07-Apr-13 12:49:46

In which case yore lying on your profile page!smile

kittylester Sun 07-Apr-13 12:58:42

Elegran - my mum (a greatgran - aged 89 and looking somewhat like the stereotypical older person in the picture) has taken to standing at the top of the stairs threatening anyone who dares to come up the stairs with her zimmer frame. A couple of days ago she launched her frame down at an 'intruder' and, because she no longer had any support, nearly joined it on it's downward flight. Luckily the staff managed to avert disaster.grin

NextStopWaverley Sun 07-Apr-13 12:59:13

Galen I have it on good authority that elegran is somewhere between 19 and 99. Some days she feels 99 but she does not have quite as many wrinkles as the woman in that photo.

Movedalot Sun 07-Apr-13 13:14:44

I'll join you Elegran and hit him with my stilletos!

The person in that photo should get a stand for her laptop, mine was about £3.50 from Ikea and is much better for you than typing on a flat surface. Is this advertising? No, recommendation smile

Galen Sun 07-Apr-13 13:24:18

Anyway. How dare they use my photo without my permission?

GinnyTonic Sun 07-Apr-13 13:27:31

I always flattered myself that I looked quite good for someone I her early sixties, but my ( Younger) sister says its a really good likeness !

j08 Sun 07-Apr-13 13:35:08

a poster reading, and disapproving of, someone else's post

No names no pack drill. smile

Movedalot Sun 07-Apr-13 13:36:41

She needs a booster cushion as well as a stand for her laptop!

absent Sun 07-Apr-13 13:37:52

Left-handed and unmarried – unless the picture has been flopped.

j08 Sun 07-Apr-13 13:39:59

She might not wear her wedding rings. If she hates men her ex enough.

j08 Sun 07-Apr-13 13:41:19

Shame the curtains are closed.
